Do you have a project car?

Just wondering if any one or their DP have a project car? One that you do up, we do its my hubbys third child lol. sometimes i hate it and others i love it, it can get expensive but it gives us a hobby and an interest we have together outside of the children.

We have a 2008 Mitsubishi Evolution X GSR

My husband did have a VH SS group 3 brock commodore but he sold it 18 months ago, it was his baby but being original he didn't want to mess with it. So he will buy something to "play with" once we're back in our own home so making a mess wont matter.

yep, df has 2, well he 'claims' to only have the one in the garage, but the one he drives is just as much a project imo.
the one in the shed is a VL bt1, was his daily driver untill his dad smashed head on into a 4wd, now its waiting to be put back together, 3 years on! tho all the structual damage is fixed.
he drives a VN bt1 and as he is still working on the body kit, giving it more power ect, id class it as more his project then the vl!
bt1 is the old retired police issue commodores.

My husband has a 81 datsun 720 ute that he has been working on for 9 years and its still a rusty shell and so far owes him $50k lol. He has huge plans for it just a money thing now. Just want it finished and out of my garage.

His other car is a 98 XH XR8. He had it stroked last year and it was off the road for 9 months this time its getting billet heads and has been off road for 4 months so far. The guy doin the work does all the v8 utes so its an on the side job plus dh doesn't pay he just does that amount of work for him. Just really need it back on road now.

My (current) project cars: '71 Statie; 350, manual, etc etc etc (read: FUN!),
'77 Mk 2 Escort; race worked 1.6, manual, awaiting rust surgery and possible engine conversion to 13b rotary + turbo,
"When I'm too old to go fast" project: 1950 Series 1 Land Rover, all original, family vehicle.

    His (current) projects: R50 Pathfinder,
    GQ Patrol,
HZ (or HX, one of those ) ute; awaiting 4.2L (6cyl, not 8) engine conversion and some rust repairs (to be shop vehicle),
off road buggy thing; awaiting engine conversion from one of his motorbikes...
And a couple of bikes too.

And you know, I am sure there is more. I just can't think of them!

Oh yeah, Datsun Stanza track prepped car, just needs engine, then ready to go.

DH has a '61 Mini, 75th Mini in Australia, he wants a '57 Buick. My brother is going to the states for a holiday & to buy a car over there DH is so jealous. He wasn't into cars as much till we started going out, my step-Dad is a bad influence, he has 2 FXs & 2 FJs & a Kombi & plans for more. At least Mum & I know where our hubbys are, its always in the shed.

I had a 74 BMW 2002 when I found out I was pregnant with DD1... devo'd cause we then just didn't have the finances to finish it properly (it needed a completely new interior and the whole engine needed to be pulled apart, it was a complete rebuilt basically) so I had to get rid of it.

Hans was a beautiful car to drive still though One day

DH has a 66' mustang Coup. Beautiful car. Does not need much work really and he has decided it is time to sell it so he can buy a bike.

He also has a 1970 terrana (sp? I am not into cars at all). This needs alot of work and it is his plan to do it up for DD1's first car.
    *drool*
Just out of curiosity... How much would the mustang sell for?
    And what colour?

He wants around $20,000 for it. But he is not in a rush to sell it because the bike he wants is not on the importable bikes list yet, it is under review though.
It is a light blue colour with a dark blue interior. I personally don't like the colour. I have always said he should have gotten it sprayed a dark blue. It also has a reconditioned V8 engine so it is a great sounding car. Still original left hand drive.

Helle, He plans to paint it hot pink for her.

I have a 64 Holden eh. It was actually my first car. The poor girl has been neglected since babies but DH has some plans for her when we get some time (and money)

My brother has a HQ monaro that he and my dad restored together and my dad has enough vintage cars to drive a different one everyday of the week. Hoarder? I think so!

Kazzo, a torana? Your DD is a lucky girl!

Kazzo, I would say (like Helle) a Torana. Noice!

Helle, I would LOVE a monaro! <drool> Or a charger.... or a ford coupe.... lol

Mrs Bexie; look up muzzies (mustangs) on unique car sales, or even on ebay (there are different sections within the site, like restoration, etc) to see what is going for how much. There are also american car resto places (all over the country) that bring in whole cars, and sometimes have basket cases (needing full resto). That is a much better way to buy a vehicle, unless you really know what you are looking at online. Ie, you can go over the vehicle before having won it at auction. If and when you get one, or even before, consider joining a car club for muzzies or american cars. They are a wealth of information, and often have just the spare part that you might be looking for. You may even be able to sound off them a car you are looking at buying, or get one of them to go with you to look at a vehicle (and be able to tell you what you're getting yourself into). Then, you can go for cruises with them (nothing quite like going for a cruise with a bunch of other similar vehicles, VERY headturning!), club runs, etc. Car clubs now are more often than not great family gatherings. I can't really think of any that are purely masculine domains anymore (even the Commercial Vehicle club here in Vic were encouraging me to join with my Land Rover).
