I know if you don't need to lodge a tax return you need to tell cl etc..
but what if you do need to lodge? does my income automatically get told to cl so they can pay my ftb difference? or do I still need to tell them our income? I over estimated on purpose so keen for some money. tia!

Once you lodge your tax return, the details are electronically sent to centrelink for them to do their reconciliation.
