Just a quick question - as I know I'll get a better answer on here than i got from the CL lady I spoke to on the phone today.
Last year we got the FTBA and FTBB payments, PLUS repayment of almost $1000 from CL because of over estimate.
This year, same estimate until July 1st, only slightly higher actual income and we only got a little over $100 back as repayment for the over estimate plus the FTBA and FTBB payments, meaning we got just under $900 less than last year.
Does this sound right? The lady I spoke to today said it was all we were entitled to even though we had overestimated by more than $10,000 and are lower income earners.
it depends on how the income is split
you could have had a 40k/10k split last year, estimated 40/20 and got a large payment back as the lower income earner earned much less than the estimate - so you get a top up of family tax part A (for the 50k combined income instead of 60k) and a top up of part B (for the 10k instead of 20k)
if you again had a 40/20 estimate, but your split was actually 33/17 (as an example), you'd be entitled to ftba top up for the a over estimate, but much less for the b - even though you earned exactly the same income combined
in the same vein, if you had 50/10 estimate, but actually earned 40/15 - you would have been slightly underpaid for ftba, but actually been overpaid for ftbb, and would have had that overpayment deducted from the ftba amount
it's rather complex, and you kinda need specific numbers to work out exactly what went wrong lol
there are also "thresholds" - areas where, if you are in a specific window of estimates/actual income, you will get the exact same amount - so an overestimate doesn't really make the same impact as it does if you're deemed very low income kwim?
Thanks hun, I ended up calling them again and found out that it was all because we had received parenting payment for most of the last financial year so what we would have been owed has been used to top up the FTB B over the past financial year and for part of this financial year if that makes sense?
Hubby's estimate was at 49k a year and mine was set at 4.5k (to cover parenting payment) for most of last year, and we changed them right at the end of the financial year to the minimum we could at the advice of one of the CL customer service people.

I got a bit of a shock when I saw a rather large (larger than anticipated) deposit from the government into our bank account today...and I'm a bit worried that its wrong. There was also a much smaller one, which I think is CCR. There's nothing showing on our centrelink page other than our usual payment. Do you think they've deposited it incorrectly?? Or might it take a while to show up on the screen? I've put it into our savings account just in case they want it back (but I'm secretly praying they don't ;) )
Sammy check your Centrelink page tomorrow. If you are really worried why not just give them a call. I called yesterday and I only waited 4 minutes on hold.

If it's not showing on online services check your bank in the morning to see if it is a FAO payment for sure. Don't check just the front oage of online services check the payment history too
Last night I checked c'link online and noticed I'm receiving some 'arrears' ccb, ftb a, ftb b and rent assistance. There is NO sign of my FTB supplements?? I done my tax return on Sunday (which I do for child support purposes only) and my ex done his Thursday. I overestimated my spp and by what my ex told me he earnt was 40K lower than what I had estimated for him at the beginning of the financial year. Is it normal for the supplements to take longer to come through???
it doesn't list as "supplements" - it lists as "arrears" on online services. it will go into the bank at the same time (so the arrears you are seeing includes your supplements)
Thanks Hun - it's not enough to have my supps included so I gave them a call. What I see is my arrears for overestimating and my supps are in the hands of the ato and can take upto 28days to get to me (I assume this has to do with my separation this year)
ok, NORMALLY, they would be processed at the same time! given you were seperated at the end of the financial year, your supplements would have been calculated (and sent to the ATO) based on YOUR income and HIS most recent estimate. so no arrears payable for the time you were partnered. when he did his taxes and that was received as well, the result was re-reconciled, so instead of being the most recent estimate, it was based on his ACTUAL income -and the extra arrears paid.

Hey BG, can you help me under stand this. I got my $$ today & the letter from the FAO says that I was underpaid $2800 (roughly) & that amount has been put in my account, which it has ( yay) but then it goes onto say that the FTB supp amount is $3400 (roughly) & has bee included in my FTB money.... Now that is just FYI? Im not going to get more money? The $2800 is it hey? Its all I was expecting but then the wording of the letter has confused me....

from that letter, i would say you slightly underestimated one of your incomes, so you don't receive full supplements

I vastly underestimated my income for the last financial year. Thankfully I only claimed FTB A for half the year, but I have been claiming FTB B all year and have to pay it all back. My tax return has gone in today and as I understand it they will work out my overpayment for last year and let me know soonish. However, will they automatically adjust my claims for 2011/2012 based on this year's tax return or will I need to phone them? I have tried to adjust this online but I can't get in to do it and I am keen to avoid phoning them as I know they will be busy at this time of year.
peak time has settled now hun - it's busy, but not too bad - i woudl suggest making the call to get your estimates changed asap cos every day they're not, you are being overpaid
when your actual income is received, you will be sent a letter to revisit your estimate, and if you don't within about 3 weeks, it will be automatically changed - but an extra few weeks overpayment can be pretty nasty at the end of financial year
trust me, an extra couple of weeks is nothing considering how much I am having to pay off. But I would like it sorted ASAP to minimise the damage. What are the call centre opening hours?

yes - it means you were overpaid fortnight by fortnight to the point that the supplements were all used up to repay that overpayment and there was still more to pay back:

Does anyone know the wait on our Family Assistance reconciliations at the moment? The FAO has had our taxable incomes since 25th July and there is no sign of our FTB reconciliations yet.
When I estimated our incomes we weren't entitled to any FTB - part A or B and got a letter saying that ours is cancelled. But after doing our tax returns our income is lower and I did an estimate online and it says that we should have gotten something each fortnight.
Do you think I should give them a call?
IF it as cancelled there is nothing to reconcile. You will need to do a lump sum claim. Call up and check
Just curios, do any payments we get just show up as "Arrears payment of FTBA supplement" "Arrears payment of FTBB supplemtent" and that's the lot? I think I under estimated by about 1000 this year and I'm not sure if this has been taken into account already or if I'm expecting something to be deducted, or even if more payments will come?
I can't remember how it worked last year.

ETA: Don't worry. I've just checked. We've gotten a couple of hundred less in the FTBA supp payment so I'm guessing that it's covered the debt we owed and we won't get anymore payments. Correct me if I'm wrong :)

does your ato refund money come as part of the fao money? i seem to have only got one amount but not sure if it included my ATO refund? I got a ATO thingy in the mail...

I wasn't expecting any extra family allowance due to underestimating our income by a lot for last year. I know we were owed CCR but I figured that would be cancelled out by our overpayment of FTBa, FTBb and CCB. However we got an amount paid into our account today. Is the reconciliation for FTBa, B, CCR & CCB done all in the same payment or will I get a rebate for one amount and a bill for another? The payment was just marked as Family Allowance into our account.
Ccr will be used to rectify a ccb overpayment but not Ftb
Last year we had overpayments for both, ccr paid the ccb overpayment and the left over was paid into our account.
Ftb supplements are used to pay ftb overpayments in the first instance. If there is any leftover (if the overpayment is less than the supplement(s)) that will be paid in to your acct

ETA However the payment that came in today came in as "family allowance" which is what our FTBa comes in as. I'm so thoroughly confused by all this. I wish they would send the letters before the payments so that I know what to expect lol
Is that what's on the FAO online system or your bank statement?
If it's the bank, check the online system.
If it's the online system, I'm confused too.
Ok I have checked the FAO online system properly now.
It says the money I was paid was for CCR only, rebate owed less overpayment. So I assume there will be another debt raised soon for FTB and CCB.
if it says FAO payment on internet banking, it could well be CCR, not FTB - usually FTB reconciles as something like "arrears ftba" or "supplement ftba"

if you underestimated, the CCB will have already been done. you would have had a debt, which would have been taken out of the CCR payment you received (so hard without seeing for sure!)
ftb would have been reconciled too - if you haven't received a payment, chances are you may have a debt - jump on online services and go to "manage the money you owe" - it should show the debt (but only if it's been raised already)
so hard to say for sure - too many variables (it may still be a credit that was sent to ATO as outlined previously too kwim)
