I second the link that Kate suggested, it helped me alot, although it is very graphic and therefore not for everyone.
It does show photos of the different stages of a womans cervix throughout a womans cycle as well as the cervical mucus that is sometimes hard to identify.

I think that seeing it in pictures actually has helped me to visualise mine, and so I get a better understanding of what I'm looking for it that makes sense.
Just to share my personal experiences and sorry if TMI
I have to check right up close to my cervix to find the CM. Since it can be hard to tell the differance between CM and semen, I always check in the afternoon when I get home from work. So if we BD in the morning, there's a good chance all the swimmers got to where they were going and there is no seminal fluid left. The book TCOYF also suggests doing kegels about 1/2 to 1 hr after BD to rid yourself of excess semen, but I personally never wanted to take that chance. The EWCM does litterally (sp?) look just like what it says. If you were to crack open a warm egg and move a small amount of the egg whites between your fingers, that is what you are looking for. There is also a water test that you can do, but for the life of me I can't remember how it goes.
My last couple of cycles I have gotten EWCM, then 1 to 2 days later the + OPK.
