    sleep at childcare

Hi, my little boy has just turned 12mnths., at home he has a morn sleep and an arvo sleep of about 1.5-2hrs each, it is great.

At day care, in Bris he ws having 2 x 40mins naps , which i was happy about, as we dont expect him to sleep great there. but the last mnth, they have been keeping him up, and even yest, they put him to bed for his 1st sleep at 2.10pm..other days it has been after he has eaten his lunch.. DH picks him up and doesnt ask why he hasnt bee put to bed earlier. maybe they have tried and he hasnt settled, so i am not happy, the poor little thing, then when he gets home, he cries and cries as he is so overtired. They have changed carers the last mnth, and the last girl used to settle him so good, where as this one does not seem to be coping as much.. I am off there today to get some answeres. i also have orientation at antoher ctr at the end of the week..

Nina is doing the exact same thing at her daycare! At home, she'll have a morning & afternoon sleep. And at daycare, she would normally have the same. Since the group leader left a couple of weeks ago, Nina doesn't get put to bed till 2pm, and she's been awake since 7am that day. I've asked why, and they say that she wasn't tired, or didn't want to go to sleep. Which I find odd cause that's never happened before, and she doesn't do that at home.
Good luck with them today. I too am looking at changing her, to where the previous group leader has moved to. Let us know what they say.

I have found at DD daycare that generally all thebabies go down for a sleep after lunch so about 11:30ish, which is fine with me now as she is having 1 sleep a day at home, she never sleeps as long at Daycare but that is ok. When she was younger and still having 2 sleeps a day, I would make sure that they were aware that she needed to go down in the morning before lunch. The centre she went to were really good about it and tried to stick with our routine as much as possible.
I hope that you are able to get some answers and work out a happy solution for everyone.

Emily went though a similar thing too - I think it got so difficult for her carer to get her to take her day sleep even with the patting and rocking. She was just too overstimulated. In the end, as it was taking so long to get her to take a sleep and then she would be asleep when I picked her up, I thought it best to drop the sleep altogether for a while.

This worked for us as a few months later she decided she wanted to take a sleep again and would take herself off to the nursery. It then took her carer minutes to pat her to sleep instead of an hour.

Saying that if they are keeping your son up until late afternoon then he'd be way too overtired to take a nap - if however they are trying at the right times and he's not going down, maybe a new plan of action might help?
