Parent/Teacher Communication Book

I'm making my own communication book for DS1 for next year and I'm wondering what information should be in it?

Inside the cover I've written his name, DOB, address (residential and postal), our names, sibling and phone numbers.

I will also put in my mums details as an emergency contact also. Is there anything else I should put in?

Oops! Sorry.. He's going in to Pre-Primary (WA - 5yr old) he will be attending two schools with his main school a smaller one which is a campus of the larger one. So will have two teachers also.

We (early intervention service) send all our school starters off with an 'about me' card.

It has a pic of them and just says something like: "hi, I'm XXX. I really enjoy XXX and love to talk about XXXX. Sometimes I get anxious when XXXX I show I'm getting anxious by XXX. You can help me by XXX. Other things that might help me when I'm stressed are XXXX."

You get the idea. We try to keep it as short and simple as possible so that even a really busy teacher will take the time to read it. But make sure we include the major important points to best understand and support the child so that when (s)he is not with the key teacher who knows him/her well, that relief teachers, the PE teacher, music teacher etc. can all get to know the child too.

Even if this doesn't end up being part of your communication book, it may be a helpful thing to do and distribute amongst the staff who will be in contact with your DS

That's a really great idea! Thanks I'll do that in the front page of the book and also a little card which he can wear as a name badge too.

I've just added the therapists names to the book too, because they will add points in for the teachers also.

I know they use KIT (keep in touch) books in my local school (Qld)where parents and teachers write notes to each other.

I spoke to the principal who is trying to organise those for all the students from next year, however I just want to make sure I have one ready to go just in case they haven't got them yet.

I know it sounds a bit silly to be getting organised so early, but there is a huge change in schooling for the area next year. 3 schools in the larger town are moving in to one big school, the school that our little one is a campus under is one of the schools moving to the college. However the new school won't be ready in term 1. So DS will be going to the current location 2 days a week. I just want to make sure we are ready to go just in case the school hasn't got all the smaller details in place. Especially with DS's disabilities.
