Doesn't matter how "small" your son's surgery is - it's always hard when it's yours and when something is happening. As a nurse, I can handle whatever happens to my patients and their families. If they're in pain, no drama - I can deal with it. If they need more surgery or tests, no drama - I can deal with it. But when it's my own... not so great. I even rang another nurse on Saturday night because I was second guessing how I was doing with my sick DD... I knew in my mind I was doing all the right things and what needed to happen... but because it was MY daughter - I doubted myself. But I was giving her all the answers to my own questions . So don't feel bad.

I'd change the photo shoot - it's impossible to predict how anyone will respond to an anesthetic - some are really chucky and some like they've just had an afternoon nap. He might also be really sleepy all day or just not in the mood to "play nice". So if it were me, I'd move the photo shoot.

Good luck for everything!
