Update... Holly's eczema is 95% gone now, will try apple again shortly just to confirm if it is a problem. Only bathing her in Sorbelene now.

DD gets exzcema behind her ears very badly and some patches on her legs and back. The only thing that clears up the ears is Medihoney. Her ears can go from an opening in the ear fold and bloody to completely clear in 24hours.

I also use QV wash. I introduce Lactose Free milk to her bottles 2 weeks ago and noticed extra patches on her legs for a few days. These have gone now thankfully.

I was talking to a lady this weekend whose child really suffers as well. She told me she found out a lot of excema treatments seem to be based on nut products and she felt that was contributing to the problem.

I have to say although my kids don't suffer from excema, I would be wary of using Vaseline or anything petroleum based. It sucks moisture out of skin - this includes "baby oil".

I still swear by the Hemp by The Body Shop - so many of my customers use it to heal excema. If anyone would like to try it out, Pm me and I will see if I can source some sample tubes.

Just came in to spruke for the same product as Webmeg and BekZ... medi honey. Brigid gets mild eczema under her eyes and on the back of her neck.. one treatment with the medi honey and it is all gone.

I have to agree with Lulu here, I have used hemp body butter on DD for her excema and it has done wonders. I put it all over her after each bath, and her skin is so soft now. I was also told that taking fish oil is really good for excema. I have started taking it as it comes through bm, but you can also break the capsule and put a few drops into the babies food or bottle.

Marieke broke out in excema all over her back a while ago, and the doctor recommended using a lotion with a high fat content. I got a shea butter and vitamin E lotion, which helped, but what made the biggest difference was changing her diet. She no longer eats oranges (she LOVES oranges, and had eaten quite a few for the first time before she broke out.) and she has not had any trouble since. My MIL has had trouble with it for years, and also cannot eat oranges or tomatoes, or it will flare up. Apparently it has something to do with the way the body processes essential fatty acids, or something like that.

Here's some more info on Hemp - I had my folder sitting on the desk and it fell open on the hemp just as I came in here!

# Hemp seed oil is one of the richest sources known of Essential FAtty Acids. EFA's incluse LA's - Linoleic Acis and LNA's Alpah Linoleic acid. Hemp seeds are 55%LA and 25% LNA but also contain GAMMA linoleic acid.
Dry skin is often deficient in EFA's.
The top layer of the epidermis readily absorbs EFA's and Hemp seed oil helps to immediately condition the skin and prevent moisture loss in the long term.

Luxxe had eczema on her neck and behind her ears and around her eyes.
THe patches on her neck and behind her ears would be red raw and bleed all the time.
I honestly thought her ears would fall off sometimes, becuase they looked they were coming away from her head.

I went to teh paed and got a script for some kindof steroid/cortesone cream... but never used it.

I tried paw paw cream, and various other creams and nothing worked.

I finally went to teh naturopath and she went through all the symptoms and found a homeopathic rememdy that suited. It was called Graphites.

I had to put three of the pillules into 10ml of water and then giver her 1ml of the liquid.

then a week later, do it again. so another 1ml of the diluted mixture.

then if it still wasn't completly gone after a fortnight, give another dose.

Within the first fornight, it pretty much all completely went away, but there was still a bit on her neck, so gave her another dose.

That was when she was about 5 months old and she's not had anything since.

Also all the dry skin patches she had on her legs and torso all went away too.

I've since become a homeopath convert!!!! I'm just continually amazed by how brilliantly it works!!

My son had bad excema as a baby. We moved to Geelong form central NSW and it cleared up almost straight away. We have moved back and now its back. I have used QV and other brands but have honestly found Dove unscented soap and sorbolene cream twice a day to work best.

Lachlan is now on Goat's Milk and works wonderfully.
It's such an old wives tale, but EVERY DAY he lays in the sun for 5 minutes on front and on back. It has worked tremendously. We are using Calendula Plus at the moment. Let's see how it goes! $$$ - so many creams in my bathroom to use up now!!!

My daughters excema is back again on face (around mouth/cheeks/nose/chin), came back about 2-3mths ago (approx 14mths old, she had it from 6mths old). I cant figure out what's causing it nor completely get rid of it. It seems to flare up/become quite red after some foods sometimes but i cant pinpoint it (eg: vegemite, cheese, bread but not all the time).

It looks like a red bumpy type rash but with dry/red/flaky skin.

Thinking bout the allergy testing but not sure.

Hi! I have also got the excema dilema to deal with. The best thing I have found so far for me is cotton, cotton, cotton & Paw Paw. QV Wash and QV Cream are very good also. But if anyone one has any suggestions on curbing the scratching I'd love to know.

Can I just put in a very good word for “rolled oats in the bottom of a stocking as a soap/shampoo substitute”. My sister and I had really bad eczema as children, that we grew out of by the time we were 12, and my mother swears by oats. I wash my DS with oats in a stocking all the time. It makes a lovely milky bath, it is amazingly effective at getting dirt off and leaves his hair lovely and soft. And it’s cheap as too. DH and I have even started using it as our soap.

After trying all sorts of lotions and potions,and perscription creams my grand mother told me to try my little boy on Calamine lotion,but there is one you can buy at the chemist with an anesthetic in it and this works really well for those who want to scatch their skin, also a dermatologist told us about wet bandage wrapping,which helps keep moisture in the skin,after applying what ever creams you use.Anything is worth a go, especially when you see your little ones in discomfort.

My son had really bad eczema which started about 2 weeks old. I tried nearly every product on the market none of them worked, until I tried XMA. The best eczema cream on the market. As he was also vomiting and had a blocked nose, I switched to soy formula around 2 1/2 months, it started to clear up slightly, then I started using the XMA cream, cleared up really fast. I also used oats in a sock to bath him, and a sensitive laundry wash.

Hi i am a mum of a 9month old baby girl, i read ur post saying u want some information on what solutions there are for ezschma! i have an idea u might like to try. It is a scientific fact that the chemicals in your everyday cleaning products and personal products have very harmful chemicals in them, which cause ezschma and skin allergies among other things.

Jack's started to have eczema flare-ups....it all started just before he turned 4 months and started to appear around his eyebrows at the start of a week long virus that had him very grumbly and very high temps on and off.

Thankfully my mum makes a beeswax and propolis cream which is very effective in relieving the itching and redness. I am however, interested to find out more about giving fish oil to babies. I used to take 4 capsules a day and will start that up again as he is breast and formula-fed Monday to Thursday, then breastfed solely Friday - Monday morning in the hope that it will come through in my breastmilk.

From what age can you give them fish oil and how much? Jack is a few days out from being 5 months old.
