That sounds very worrying. Maybe you should move the stiff drink further forward in the program or even insert another one.

Hey PN, how worrying for you. Is your DS still well? No signs of an infection - ie. cough, cold? As the PP's have said, hopefully it is just a swollen lymph node. Has it grown or got smaller overnight?

I am the opposite of a panicker, but I would suggest that instead of stuffing about with all of those appointments you head to the emergency dept of your nearest hospital with a paediatric facility. If your DS is well, you might need to wait a while but at least you will be seen and should have an US and results today.

I hope your DS feels ok, and the cause is something minor. Stay away from google!!

My DS1 had swollen lymph nodes at the base of the skull behind the ear. They were both swollen and he also had like a wort/lesion on his head that came out of no where as well. We were also sent off U/S and blood tests. It came back his body was fighting a virus and his white blood cell count was high. This was causing is lymph nodes to enlarge.

It was very scary indeed...hope you get results today.

Gah. GP implied we were wasting her time because he was cheerful but gave the referral to the paed but not the u/s.

Number for the paed was wrong and name was illegible. Google to the rescue.

Paed's office was closed.

Found mobile number.

Paed said he's not taking appointments today but discussed likely reasons most if which are to do with swollen lymph nodes and requiring anti-bs or draining.

Rather than going back to GP DH will just go to hospital now. I don't like to waste anyone's time but until we know he's ok I think that's what we have to do.

How worrying for you peanutter

My DD 1 had something similar to this happen to her when she was almost 3. She spent almost a week in hospital as they tried to work out what was wrong. She had numerous tests done including testing for tuberculosis. In the end it worked out to be an infection from a bee sting she'd received a week or so previously. The infection had gone into her Lymph node. She had IV anti biotics and was fine. Lymph nodes can inflame before or after basic illnesses too, such as colds &amp; flus.
I hope everything is fine for your little one.

We had something similar to the above. When my brother was about 10 he got sick, and my nana noticed that he had his head to one side - his neck had swollen on the left below his jaw and ear. The doctors were incredibly incompetent, it took 7 (!!) trips before Mum found someone who would listen to her concerns. He went off to hospital and was there for a week before someone flippantly said it was probably cancer. Off for a scan and biopsy with Mum scared out of her mind and my brother crying

The results were a simple swollen lymph node, easily fixed.

I guess I'm just saying while it's scary, the most likely answer is that it's a lymph node and he'll be right in no time. I'm so glad you've got a referral for the scan and can get some answers soon rather than the mess we went through

Back from the hospital take 3.

They are satisfied that it's a bacterial infection of the lymph nodes, which is probably the best outcome available, and the simplest to treat, so we've been discharged with prescriptions and instructions.

We're all going to have 2 nights worth of sleep now.

The pharmacy still hasn't been able to give us the rest of the antibiotics, because when they tried to order more they learned that their supplier doesn't stock it any longer. So they're trying some other pharmacies, and will get back to us today or tomorrow.

We have enough for today, so we're not going to fuss.

We're just going to sleep.

NB: the paed we saw today (who was really, really lovely) said that these are actually incredibly common and are not worth worrying about - absolutely worth checking up to confirm that's what it is, but they're a stock standard thing, and the most harm they usually do is to parent who see it and immediately think "tumour"

... so she's told us what to watch for, what to do, what would occasion a return visit, and when it should start shrinking, and when it should be gone.

So if your kid gets one, by all means take them to the paed or the ED, but breathe while you do.
