    Thankyou for your replies.
We have just stuck with the panadol today and I am sending DP out tomorrow to get some brauers (sp) teething remedy. Dont wanna give him panadol longer than I have to.
But I am sure at some point the sleeping potion will come into its own.
    xx

I wouldn't. Its basically alcohol with minor flower extracts for flavouring.

I'm pretty sure you can get one specifically for kids that doesn't contain the alcohol, but that might just be the normal rr

It's the essence of the flowers that do the work, the alcohol is there to preserve it. I imagine they might have given you the remedy preserved in glycerine for bubs, but if not you can put the drops in warm/hot water first and the alcohol with evaporate off leaving the active components behind.

Brauer's Calm is for babies/children for sleeplessness. I'd be inclined to use that rather than rescue remedy unless it is one designed for children. A lot of herbal remedies aren't recommended for under 6 months.. and sometimes even 2 years.. so I'd be very careful with a 4 mth old.

I dunno about warming it to remove alcohol content. I've read recently that alcohol doesn't actually cook out of food so it might not work. And some of the extracts might lose their properties above certain temperatures. Not exactly the same thing, but when making soaps etc we learnt that some plant oils had to be added in after the heating process as it destroys their properties, so I would think it could be the same for other plant extracts.

Brauers Calm (and the whole range) is homoepathic, and is prescribed for physical ailments.

Bach Flower Remedies are prescribed for emotional/state of mind ailments and work to restore balance and emotional well being.

Both follow very very very similar principles (discovered by different people) -like cures like. The plant extracts and essences used are so tiiiiny that it's almost just an echo of the flower itself. The most amazing thing is the more dilute the Bach Flower the more effective it is. That's because the world is wonderful and nature is incredible.

The alcohol is necessary as a preservative and there is not much in there. It's also very pure, unlike alcohol used in cooking. Only 5 drops of remedy is used at a time MAX. It can also be applied topically (bubs head).

The only issue I have with the premixed Bach Remedies (apart from Rescue Remedy) is that it needs to be prescribed individually. The sleep one in particular annoys me (the adult version) because the reasons for MY sleeplessness, will be different to anyone elses - feel me?

Hmm.. but ethanol is ethanol, and interestingly rescue remedy is preserved in brandy.

Ingredients of rescue remedy is 27% alcohol... even if it's just a few drops in the mouth... i dunno.. bit like dipping the dummy in brandy LOL.

I still wouldn't do it with a 4mth old tho. But if you've got the one for kids which is alcohol free.. then all this talk about alcohol doesn't really count for anything! LOL
