Brauers Calm (and the whole range) is homoepathic, and is prescribed for physical ailments.

Bach Flower Remedies are prescribed for emotional/state of mind ailments and work to restore balance and emotional well being.

Both follow very very very similar principles (discovered by different people) -like cures like. The plant extracts and essences used are so tiiiiny that it's almost just an echo of the flower itself. The most amazing thing is the more dilute the Bach Flower the more effective it is. That's because the world is wonderful and nature is incredible.

The alcohol is necessary as a preservative and there is not much in there. It's also very pure, unlike alcohol used in cooking. Only 5 drops of remedy is used at a time MAX. It can also be applied topically (bubs head).

The only issue I have with the premixed Bach Remedies (apart from Rescue Remedy) is that it needs to be prescribed individually. The sleep one in particular annoys me (the adult version) because the reasons for MY sleeplessness, will be different to anyone elses - feel me?

Hmm.. but ethanol is ethanol, and interestingly rescue remedy is preserved in brandy.

Ingredients of rescue remedy is 27% alcohol... even if it's just a few drops in the mouth... i dunno.. bit like dipping the dummy in brandy LOL.

I still wouldn't do it with a 4mth old tho. But if you've got the one for kids which is alcohol free.. then all this talk about alcohol doesn't really count for anything! LOL

Thankyou for your replies, thats what I love about this site, I go into a heath food store looking like week old shiat from lack of sleep and some checkout chick sees me coming Here, I get the truth
So i purchased out of blind desperation
I didnt realise there was a kids version and I didnt realise that within the range, there were prob better options.
Lulu, I will definatly be consulting you before i spend another 20 bucks
Winter and Liz, I understand where you are coming from and havnt yet given it to him as I have decided to go with teething relief
SOOOO, is there a better option than Hylands, cause thats what DP came home with. (he was sold on the 100% money back guarantee - tight arse doesnt want to waste 7 bucks....)

I haven't heard of Hylands, but I found Brauers Teething Relief to be pretty hopeless LOL. My kids teethed pretty quickly tho.. and always cut more than one tooth at a time (Tallon cut 5 at once after his first one!!) We'd have a couple of bad nights, and then they'd cut through and I'd feel bad, coz they hadn't even had any pain relief those nights! Kayla did teeth a bit longer.. and it was her that I tried Brauers on.. and yeah.. didn't seem to make a difference.

Whatever it is it will pass soon enough.. and you'll be worrying about the next thing hahah. Hang in there!

Shelley, it's not to say it might not be useful in the future - I keep rescue remedy in my handbag and take it everywhere.

It's just you need to understand the way it works to be able to prescribe, and it needs to be based on questions about the entire situation or feeling you need balanced. It won't hurt anyone. I'm not sure what the other component is in that remedy - I haven't taken an interest in the premixed ones at all - can't help it, I'm a purist about these things

Hey Liz - what's the preservative in the Brauers? I don't have any here now and was wondering what it is. I found the teething mix seemed to work, but 100% of the time - which is better than nothing I suppose

I dunno! They only list the active ingredients: Aconitum nap. 30C, Actaea spicata 6C, Belladonna 30C, Chamomilla 30C, Colocynthis 6C, Kreosotum 6C, Merc. sol. 6C, Nux vomica 6C, Silicea 6C.

Probably some chemical preservative I wonder what preservative the Rescue Remedy for kids uses if it's alcohol free?

I'd check there to see what they reccommend for kids.
