Jake has soy - the Soy Life Vanilla creme yoghurt is his fave - the Soy King ones I love but he doesn't like the fruit chunks in them. Both you can get from Coles or Woolies. Cheese replacements we haven't found but my sister has a great wholefood store called Macro in Sydney near her and she gets a great soy cheese there. We also use Vitasoy soy milk - it is made from whole soy beans unlike a lot of the other brands that only use soy protein which is a by-product from processing soy for other stuff.
Mel be careful with low fat dairy bcos generally they actually have more milk protein solids in them as they add milk solids to it. My terminology is prob wrong but the upshot is they can actually upset tummie more than whole fat.
We are a dairy free household (my kids have never eaten it, and I haven't eaten it in nearly 13 years).
There is a brand of soy cheese that we eat called 'Cheezly'. It comes in many different types (Edam is our favourite), and you can grate it or slice it or melt it on pizza. We get it at our local health food store. It is imported by a company in Melbourne called 'Vegan Perfection' and they list their national stockists on their website, so you may be able to find a store near you.
I am happy to answer any 'dairy-free' questions (I don't consider myself an expert, just someone who has lived without dairy for a long time and hasn't looked back!).

Mel - Em has the Soy King yoghurts. Check the ingredients on your margarine too, lots of them do have milk in them. There are 2 that I know of that are definitely dairy free. Lots of your crackers will have it in there too. Hmm, maybe I should come down there or you come up here and we do a grocery shop for one of us together, coz I can never think of the names we use, just recognise the packs. I am trying to remember to look at all the cheeses when I do the shopping but by the time I get to the cheese section I have a full trolley and am getting tired.
Christy has some excellent recipes too She has saved my bacon a few times. I usually write down the recipes she gives me and Em has not pushed one away yet.
