    Pear.
My cousin had the same problem but they didn't figure it out til se was a lot older than your DD.
I'd ask my aunty but she won't speak about it for some reason
Maybe she feels like a crap mum cos I know I do!!! LOL... the doctor was suggesting its because she has a bad diet, but she doesn't really, she doesn't eat her dinner 99% of the time, but has breakfast and lunch and she loves fruit and she'll drink water if its mixed with a tiny bit of juice and a tiny bit of cordial.

I'll try the brown sugar in water, she might drink it..anyone know how much to try? I also have my friend's thermomix here at the moment, so will whip up some pear juice. She had a shot of prune juice before (she wont' drink it in a sippy cup, but will have shots of it quite easily out of a medicine cup - weird child!!) and I've given her a couple of squares of chocolate.. just in case that helps (plus i wanted some chocolate, and I got busted....)

Can you take her for a colonic irrigation? It's just a small tube that you could probably insert for her, to make her more comfortable (relatively speaking), and then it gravity feeds warm water. I can PM you a link for what exactly happens, obviously it's from a clinic here but you might be able to find something near you....just let me know

The suppositories will help, you need to soften it up before it comes out so it doesn't hurt. We use Microlax, it helps dd1 when she gets like this.

I have noticed that the bananas are making her really bad atm so trying to avoid them. I have had to use parachoc after she ate a lot of bananas last week and she couldn't go.

Sultanas are a good thing to try too.

PS - You're NOT a crap Mum, all your kids would be eating the same stuff, and she's the only one with the problem, right?

When my DS gets constipated from his reflux formula I give him 50mls of water with half a teaspoon of brown sugar added. He poos every time, garaunteed. Not sure if this is too mild though for such a serious poo situation!

I would go the glycerin suppositories before an enema. The suppositories basically lubricate the end bit of poo and the area around the rectum, making it easier for it to come out, and hopefully once the hardest bit is out (the bit at the end as been there the longest so has had the most amount of water absorbed from it), it will be easier to get it to come out.

I would also encourage spending a lot of time sitting on the toilet. Sometimes you need to sit there and relax a bit for a few minutes before the muscles un-tense and let go, so if she is out of there quickly (like my kids), she might not be giving herself enough time. Try sitting with her and reading a story to her while she sits on the toilet (after keeping the suppository in for as long as possible), to see what happens

Also, some people are just more naturally prone to getting constipated, or going in cycles. I know I am, and so in DS. I'm amazed DH can go every day!

Oh, a really good natural laxative is flaxseed. You buy it from the health food store, and sprinkle it on her brekky (oats and seeds are also good to add - I make my own museli). You can make muffins and add it in there. I can go every day when I have my muesli, but otherwise can easily go 3+ days between times.

Hi, my DD3 is very much the same as yours and she has the hemroids and skin tags to prove it, she has started to get a bit better, but as a baby was a nightmare....most things did'nt work or worked breifly eg the over the counter drops!!! she had a glycerine suppositry which worked, and we just had to up the water in take...went high fibre everything...lots of fruit...sounds like you have got that happening and i think that will help after what is there comes out..thats a lot of poo and they can develop pooing issues and hold it because it hurts so much..I say get it out of there and keep up with the great diet you have going..forget about tea and what she does'nt eat, my kids have (used to have) fruit in place of vegies.. I still put it on their plates and eventually they eat it...7 years later..!!!! :0 and I stopped making other meals for my kids if they don't try it there is nothing else if they try it they can have yoghurt if they eat it all a biscuit icecream etc:my son discovered he loves Pumpkin soup because of it..I guess like your shots of prune juice, desperation and willing to try anything gets you over the line lol!!!

well I whipped up some pear juice (love that thermo!) and she's drinking it at the moment, but unfortunately the other two bigger kids are drinking it as well, so I'll have some very interesting nappies soon!!

Yael - she doesn't sit on the toilet yet, she's still in nappies. I have been dancing around with her this arvo though, trying to get her to relax and stuff, and I think exercise is supposed to get things moving and out.... well it worked for me when I went jogging, always wanted to do a poo halfway through.. LOL

My heart goes out to you and your DD! Our DD has had ongoing poo issues since November last year due to a nasty bout of constipation which caused anal fissures It's been a crappy ride for both of us, pun intended

You've been given some good suggestions already but I'll say that a lot of them don't work for my DD. I have tried and tried natural remedies but we have always had to resort to some sort of medicine in the end. The only natural extras I could suggest which I give to DD to keep her on a roll when we finally get pooing is pureed apples (I just buy the SPC tubs so they are quick and easy!) or Rafferty's Gardens sachets but not the ones with bananas in them as bananas can make things worse. Apricot juice or puree is also quite good but DD wasn't a huge fan.

One of the medicines I've had success with is Parachoc which is a stool softener and lubricant, not a laxative like many think. I add it to her bottle or a sippy cup of milk and that usually does the trick. In saying that though, you need to be consistent and continue using it until soft poos are the norm. Some kids are on Parachoc for years depending on the severity of the 'poo issues'. It's extremely safe though and your DD may only need a weeks worth. My DD has psychological issues with pooing (thanks to the damn anal fissures scaring the hell out of her!) hence why we are still using it.

The other trick I have up my sleave is Infant Coloxyl Drops. Once again, I add it to her milk (three times a day) and usually within 24 hours the blockage is cleared. If you give this a go, speak to your pharmacist more about it though and ask how long you need to continue with it after the poo has arrived

Poo issues can quickly become psychological for children so I have everything crossed for you that your DD is OK once she has a good clean out.

    Good luck

PS: we tried suppositories a couple of times and both of us hated them DD was very traumatised by it and I hated putting my fingers up her tiny bottom. On each occassion the damn thing just slid out still in one piece anyway so I've refused to try them again. It was awful

I wouldnt feel too bad about it, it may have started as a psychological onset. Ie she had one poo that was semi solid, it hurt to come out and then she didnt want to go the next time so held onto it and thus unknowingly the cycle begins. I hope she feels better soon

Taurean - I would say its already psychological for her cos she's been telling me she's not going to push when I ask her if she feels like a poo.

She had issues as a baby, and we took her off cows milk formula and put her on goats milk formula, and it seemed to be ok, and we never thought she had an issue when we put her on cows milk at 1 year, but the doc said she probably never pooped properly and didn't get it all out and its been building up from then. How bad do we feel to not notice that she's finishing pooing!! I mean, I don't really know what the average poo count is for a kid, but obviously she wasn't meeting it - which I don't understand because she was going every day, but I guess just not enough was coming out? Thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure DD2 poos more than DD1 so if I had them around the other way, maybe it would have triggered something in my head that it wasn't normal? Although I'm sure DS only pooped once a day. Argh I dunno. Poor bugger. I'll get DH to pick up some parachoc on the way home - just at the chemist? over the counter?

OMG - poor thing, you too...

Before you go down the supp path, try Movicol from the chemist... it is an oral powder that you mix with water and it helps soften as it draws the water that it is mixed with into the bowel and the poo.
There are two types of medications that are used, softeners (glycerine) and ones that help the peristaltic movements of the bowel (coloxyl)... increasing the fibre in the diet is going to help by providing bulk that will help stimulate the bowel to move the poo along, the big problem is that it is going to be bloody hard close to the end of the bowel and this is what is going to cause the pain when passing as it is all jammed together and will not squish out itms.

She needs loads of water, i would be diluting the juice with water as if it is too sugary, water may be pulled away from the bowel to dilute the sugar - and then you will have the opposite effect.

Hope this helps and she is pooing soon
