Even a very mild tounge tie can cause speech issues. I just posted in Sally's thread about this, but my second DD has a mild tounge tie that prevents her from making some sounds properly, especially ones where she has to put her tounge to the roof of her mouth. Definately something to look into and maybe make an appointment for a speech assessment.
Ahhhh OK then LOL. Definitely ask her speechie about it and if she hasn't already noted it during her assessment of her, she will probably pay more attention to it next time she sees her. It might just be as simple as getting her to focus on a different set of sounds to improve her articulation - my DD has really come ahead in leaps and bounds with it as we really focused on that area and made sure she was practicing putting her tounge to the roof of her mouth etc.
Yeah, well see, thats a reason I think DD doesn't have it.
Her tongue won't stay down! She says tat for cat. We are trying to get the c/k sounds.
She'll do the c..at, but as soon as she tries to put it together the t/d comes back into it. C dat.
That was one of the first sounds we worked on actually. That didn't have any relation to the tounge tie though. We did a lot of 'homework' with her at home with memory games, colouring in with the sheets that her speechie gave her and just a hell of a lot of repetition. Like we would get her to say 'monkey-key. donkey-key, mickey-key' etc to help her get the K sound. And with the C sound it was 'c-at' - splitting the c from the at and then gradually getting her to say it closer together. Some of her speech issues might be separate from any caused by tounge tie if she does have one.
