i don't think you're being overprotective at all, you're protecting your child, advocating for a LO that can't advocate for himself. It is hard to complain, when the people you complain to (e.g the kindy) are so defensive, instead of being interested in what is in the best interests of the child. (which SHOULD be the focus).

in adults, when bad runs go on and on, you get Imodium, to block you up, give you a day or so's rest FROM having the runs. I wonder if that is the same for kiddywinks.

Gastro is so dehydrating, which is much more serious in a child, than an adult, i would return him to hospital too. Frustrating that you have to keep stating the obvious, to people who SHOULD know better.

Just on the whole day care incident - do you have an allergy/intolerance plan in place that they can follow? My child is wheat intolerant/allergic, his day care centre fed him wheatbix! I was livid! Their response was that it was okay, because they watched him for half hour and he seemed fine (They didnt call me for half an hour after the incident!). He doesnt have the sort of reaction that you will see immediately, its more a ceoliac reaction where his stomach, bowels etc try to attack him. Their response to everything was to try to cover it over.

My suggestion to you - Im in NSW but fairly certain Vic has very similar policies as I asked a Vic carer for advice on this one - make a formal complaint in writing and wait for a response. Make sure you lay out everything dates, times, what they have done and not done to rectify the situation etc. In NSW if they receive a written complaint they must lodge it with the regulatory body also. If still not satisfactory then send another reply to them stating why and CC the original plus the new letter to your regulatory body (in NSW this is a branch of DoCS). However, be prepared, if you havent already you may end up forced to move centres with your child (I think you already moved from that centre?). We were. They made it impossible for him to stay. The centre that we had our incident with were investigated by the body and found to have breached state guidelines and their own policies. They continue to be investigated impromptu to this day due to what my son went through.

My son was the last of three children now known to me to have this same thing happen. The other parents put it down to a one off thing, which I refused to do, its not a one off thing that they can mess up in this instance. Our new centre is great, very understanding and unlike the previous centre - they actually ask me questions when they don't know. Sorry a bit off topic, but if you arent happy with the response you had follow it up, even if its just for other children. The woman who was room leader that day (and had given him the offending allergen) was not fired, but that wasnt my aim either.
