I had infant size for my boys. They were a little snugger round the middle with Si, because he was a bit chubby (Riv was skinny). But they still were a good fit.
ETA: Poor you Gigi, missing your sewing - can you save up and just get a super cheapie kmart one or something next time they're on sale? They're getting cheaper all the time, and it would be better than nothing right? I can do basic sewing on mine, and really, it still might be better than the machines my grandmas had.
I am not going to post pics of my stash. I dont want you all to cry about how dismally small it is. And for the next couple of weeks it is hard enough stretching the budget for all of us to eat let alone buy nappies. No wonder I have shrunk. I dont know how people survive that rely only on Centrelink payments, i swear they havent doubled in the last 10 years yet the cost of living has. Sorry, will stop my whinge now.
Man I wish things would dry!!!! Sarah has run out of sposies and all the clothies are taking at least 3 days to dry! so the night nappies have all been used. dont know what DH put on her tonight. How do you fold flats for night use? i have tonnes of flats not many covers and no sposies she can use. Thankfully Em has enough sposies for a few more days. I hope I get enough money this week! I am so over being broke! wish the army would sort themselves out coz if they hadn't stuffed us around so much we wouldnt be in this situation!
The car we put a deposit on is an essential atm, It will halve my petrol usage, and is easy to park in the city. and the work i do needs me to use my car. I just wish the tax would come really fast. Knowing that there is money on the way doesnt help me right now when I desperately need it, and if I cancel things like the phones and internet, the cancellation fees are too high to pay too, so they are cheaper to keep on in the short term. So yeah, not buyng nappies until the tax arrives now. and what I did buy a couple of weeks ago is already on the way. I would love to look at the records of what has been the centrelink payments over the last 10 years and prove to the goverment that the increases dont match the cost of living rises. I am just so angry that everything has happened the way it has, with both of us being in and out of work and there not being enough to go around. and to top it off the place that had offered me a job couldnt gove it to me because the fees that the temp agency wanted to charge him were way too high, and not in the budget, so they did me out of a full time job! Thankfully they are doing what they can right now because they know how desperate I am, and even though there is not much work available, being tax time, they are getting me to do some mundane stuff in their office for a few hours in the morning, which I did on Thursday and Friday, and am doing tomorrow.
Now I have probably said way too much about our financial situation but I really needed to vent and it is nappy related in a way. Everything is just getting on top of me and Im not eating properly so it is getting to me more. DH just wont stop eating me out of house and home! he has eaten all the groceries I bought on Thursday out if boredom so I am creating some foods that are very light on ingredients wise and lack things like protien and iron, but they still have some good stuff. Just in case you are worried, the girls are eating fine, they get lots at CC and are eating whatever I can scrape together at home, and I am having their left overs.
Gigi
We only use water on her face to wash, and her bum we usually use j&j wipes (have since birth) but since the nappy rash came - only flannel and warm water. And guess what
TODAY WE ARE NAPPY RASH FREE! she must have know i cut up 20 liners for her mcns lol.... so that is exciting.
Will probably keep using the flannel and warm water thing - even with #2. (figure i have to wash anyhow and it is so simple and feels nicer on their bum for them!
Going to try to get her back to the dr for the face today (a different one for a 2nd opinion!) - but she woke up coughing and snotty so i am really back to my old theory that it is from her being sick.... (perhaps i am just hoping this).
Prefolds - i havent used them before as DD was 1 before i got her into MCNs. i have all osfa (BBB and AIO's pockets) and a heap of smalls so it is more those first few months when they are a little bulky. I am going to put them into a PUL cover and i have 1/2 dozen bamboo boosters to use with the prefolds.
I can sew and might go scout some op-shops for some old flannelette sheets today and try sewing some 30cm x 40cm at 2x6x2 (or maybe 2x4x2) prefolds with cotton flannel.
Will see what i find. dont want to use terry as it is very bulky like you said (have a heap of flats i bought with good intentions with DD.. lol - and yep burp and spew cloths they became.
I might aim for 2 dozen and see how i go. (if i can make them cheap enough). otherwise go for 1 dozen and then maybe more if i like them - just cant see me having much time to sew with 2 under 6 months lol!
WOHB - sposie for the morning poo... then we are back !!!
Ali it's so not fair. It sounds like you're managing really well, but please try to eat as well as you can. Your time will come, one day you'll get there.
FJ- i had the S BBH bamboo ones and i found them too long. But Lu was small.....
PP- Definately get some bamboo to boost cotton or flanel prefolds. My cotton and flanel prefolds were useless even for one wee. Bamboo was so much better.
Falguni - yes i have about 6 bamboo microfibre boosters that i can use inside the prefold, during the day for home use though for the first 2- 3 months i dont mind changing frequently
AJP - i have heard is it happy heinys are good? Or motherease. Actually happybabes have motherease for $20... is that cheap?
HOpe your little ones thumbnail clears up. OUr dr's appointment is in 1.5 hrs... trying to keep DD awake.. lol
ALi - sorry missed you b4. I completley hear you!!. I was only saying to DH last night that everyone else seems to be able to afford new cars, tv's, holiday, house renos on one wage and with me working casual again and DH wage... i swear we only just make ends meet. We get hardly anything from centrelink ($20 a week i think) but others who earn more get a hindsight more than us... i am totally baffled at how other families do it. We never go out, dont eat out, dont buy luxuries, and just cover our mortgage, food and bills. So i have no idea!!!
WOHB - still the 1st morning poo sposie... waiting waiting
