they might have been the ones from happy babes. it is a newish store.
PP - zyrtec only works on allergies that raise the histamine levels, so most food allergies won't be helped by antihistimines. Allergies that cause ezcema aren't usually the same. I'm not entirely sure why?
PP - are you sure you want 30 prefolds ??? I only used 12...hm how much are you looking at paying for them each??? and what kind did you wnat? jsut cotton or terry with bamboo in the middle???
aahhh dame kids today..its been pi$$ing down all day and their pinging of the walls
I dont know how many i need maz lol... i was being cautious to wash every 2 days....
for my newborn... do you think 20 would be enough maybe.
I have about 10 small MCN's for #2
and 32 OSFA to share between DD and #2...
how many prefolds for the early days would you suggest.
I am assuming just flannel or cotton with the newborn thing - as i guess i will change then 2 hrsly with feeds etc. ??
Am i a bit over excited maz?
FJ - DD's eyes puffed down about 2hrs post zyrtec - the red bumpy skin on her chin stayed though ... so i am wondering if it is an environmental allergy?
Wow girls, awesome stashes all, I am like Nettie, I would never have 'em all together like that!! Perhaps I will have to specifically go to flats for a day & wash & stack everything lol. Can't see it happening but if I get bored....
So Mel, you're still here then?!
We had a lovely day, here is Punky when we went to lunch, checking out the menu... (Since I can't swap stash photos this will have to do...!)
WOPB: Terry flat & rollicking rascals ai2 used as a cover...
just had a win on B4B 2 blueberry fitted's osfa for $16.....Cant wait to start looking at the newborn ones.

lol Mel! New borns mmmm.... When it is time for your new bub... the nappies you gave me will be able to go full circle back!
Now now Fj + MAz.... no fighting over my business lol
Well i am off for the evening.... early night after a LONG weekend!!!
Have cut up my microfleece and ready for MCN's in the morning for DD
WOHB - zinc and sposie
QM - yup still here and accounted for...
WOHB: Currently Baby Kanga but going to be snoozywun...
PP I've got 24 prefolds. And 24 flats (well 25 actually, Si came home in a hospy flat). And it's still hard to find one spare, if they're not being used as nappies (and really, we have more than enough fitteds..), they're used for spew, drool, and other baby related things. They're just cotton, and I boost them with bamboo or hemp if I need.
I took a photo of my stash. Not including newborn or mediums, a few of Si's nappies were missing, and I realised I can't find one of Riv's D'lish's and one of his BerryPlushes...hmm...I think I saw him running away with the BP a few days ago. Anyway. Considering there were no mediums at all in the photo, I think perhaps I have enough nappies...although I do think, that Riv could do with a few more larges...
Hey guess what!? Rans just told me he fixed my laptop!!Yay! Clever man.
so all of you who have actually used prefolds on a NB, whats the ideal size?
Pink Palace - that's so hard about your DD's rash/excma situation whatever the heck it is, big hugs to you hon, how frustrating, trying to work out what it is, and what to do about it.
What sort of baby wipes are you using. For a baby with skin irritations, truely, i would go simple as poss - e.g cloth wipes and water - so no danger of perfumes and chemical additives.
bubs can change too, mine handled synthetic material next to her skin FINE for 12 months, then all of a sudden, rashed to it. So stuff can change.
Love looking at everyone's stash photos, but like you Nettie, i can't get my head around doing my photos either, not even sure if i am able to put photos in the beely belly gallery - is that only for subscribers? ANd how would i have them all dry at the same time? I can imagine arranging them on the bed for example, and Destructo Rampaging Bilby coming in and "helping".
WOTBB: lotus nights with rainbow bumjumper under loose cotton sleeping bag
Melham - sorry to hear you missed your movie due to feeling ill.
i think all the musos on here need to serenade you with "come out baby, it's time" songs.
Queen - Punky is so wellhaved in the cafe - bilby will only sit when being fed - then we have to walk her around with her koala backpack lead thingy, so that's NOT relaxing for dh or me. ANd now bilby wants my canoli / gelati which she's not allowed, so i can see tanties coming up soon over that. Cafe visits are so rare for us, but not easy. Gee it was so much easier when she was in the stroller and just lay there, or even went to sleep!
Pink Palace - with the prefolds, i reckon 20 would be grouse. The thing with the fabrics is - do you want them JUST for newborn stage (flannelette, muslin, cotton) or do you want to be able to use them as pocket stuffers, boosters for fitteds at the later stage (bamboo, hemp).
And as Nelle says, you can take a cotton product e.g flat and boost it with a bamboo booster too.
Have you used flats before? i failed flats miserably, however i did them up, was way too bulky to work, so after a week of trying hard, i was resigned to using them only for spit rags. I found the cottton prefolds too bulky, so used them for changetable mats. The bamboo prefolds/trifolds whatever you call them, were trimmer under a cover, thirsty, took longer to dry, but we're still using them in teh nappies, so i personally found them much more useful.
we're all different, you could easily be a whizz at the things i flopped at.
THat's what it boils down to (vis a vis the prefolds). which fabric you buy them in. Spend twice the money but get twice the usage. Are you a sewer? even a basic one?
gee, i have not sewn ANYTHING for yonks, i really miss it.
I had infant size for my boys. They were a little snugger round the middle with Si, because he was a bit chubby (Riv was skinny). But they still were a good fit.
ETA: Poor you Gigi, missing your sewing - can you save up and just get a super cheapie kmart one or something next time they're on sale? They're getting cheaper all the time, and it would be better than nothing right? I can do basic sewing on mine, and really, it still might be better than the machines my grandmas had.
I am not going to post pics of my stash. I dont want you all to cry about how dismally small it is. And for the next couple of weeks it is hard enough stretching the budget for all of us to eat let alone buy nappies. No wonder I have shrunk. I dont know how people survive that rely only on Centrelink payments, i swear they havent doubled in the last 10 years yet the cost of living has. Sorry, will stop my whinge now.
Man I wish things would dry!!!! Sarah has run out of sposies and all the clothies are taking at least 3 days to dry! so the night nappies have all been used. dont know what DH put on her tonight. How do you fold flats for night use? i have tonnes of flats not many covers and no sposies she can use. Thankfully Em has enough sposies for a few more days. I hope I get enough money this week! I am so over being broke! wish the army would sort themselves out coz if they hadn't stuffed us around so much we wouldnt be in this situation!
The car we put a deposit on is an essential atm, It will halve my petrol usage, and is easy to park in the city. and the work i do needs me to use my car. I just wish the tax would come really fast. Knowing that there is money on the way doesnt help me right now when I desperately need it, and if I cancel things like the phones and internet, the cancellation fees are too high to pay too, so they are cheaper to keep on in the short term. So yeah, not buyng nappies until the tax arrives now. and what I did buy a couple of weeks ago is already on the way. I would love to look at the records of what has been the centrelink payments over the last 10 years and prove to the goverment that the increases dont match the cost of living rises. I am just so angry that everything has happened the way it has, with both of us being in and out of work and there not being enough to go around. and to top it off the place that had offered me a job couldnt gove it to me because the fees that the temp agency wanted to charge him were way too high, and not in the budget, so they did me out of a full time job! Thankfully they are doing what they can right now because they know how desperate I am, and even though there is not much work available, being tax time, they are getting me to do some mundane stuff in their office for a few hours in the morning, which I did on Thursday and Friday, and am doing tomorrow.
Now I have probably said way too much about our financial situation but I really needed to vent and it is nappy related in a way. Everything is just getting on top of me and Im not eating properly so it is getting to me more. DH just wont stop eating me out of house and home! he has eaten all the groceries I bought on Thursday out if boredom so I am creating some foods that are very light on ingredients wise and lack things like protien and iron, but they still have some good stuff. Just in case you are worried, the girls are eating fine, they get lots at CC and are eating whatever I can scrape together at home, and I am having their left overs.
Gigi
We only use water on her face to wash, and her bum we usually use j&j wipes (have since birth) but since the nappy rash came - only flannel and warm water. And guess what
TODAY WE ARE NAPPY RASH FREE! she must have know i cut up 20 liners for her mcns lol.... so that is exciting.
Will probably keep using the flannel and warm water thing - even with #2. (figure i have to wash anyhow and it is so simple and feels nicer on their bum for them!
Going to try to get her back to the dr for the face today (a different one for a 2nd opinion!) - but she woke up coughing and snotty so i am really back to my old theory that it is from her being sick.... (perhaps i am just hoping this).
Prefolds - i havent used them before as DD was 1 before i got her into MCNs. i have all osfa (BBB and AIO's pockets) and a heap of smalls so it is more those first few months when they are a little bulky. I am going to put them into a PUL cover and i have 1/2 dozen bamboo boosters to use with the prefolds.
I can sew and might go scout some op-shops for some old flannelette sheets today and try sewing some 30cm x 40cm at 2x6x2 (or maybe 2x4x2) prefolds with cotton flannel.
Will see what i find. dont want to use terry as it is very bulky like you said (have a heap of flats i bought with good intentions with DD.. lol - and yep burp and spew cloths they became.
I might aim for 2 dozen and see how i go. (if i can make them cheap enough). otherwise go for 1 dozen and then maybe more if i like them - just cant see me having much time to sew with 2 under 6 months lol!
WOHB - sposie for the morning poo... then we are back !!!
Aliit's so not fair. It sounds like you're managing really well, but please try to eat as well as you can. Your time will come, one day you'll get there.
