PP try putting some water in a sealed container with them and keep them inside a cupboard. The water will evaporate before they dry out.

Sooooo tired....... Em is up to mischeif again. Yawn.

PP- r u talkin abt the 2 for 1 sale for soapnuts? i reckon even if u do use the detergent for summer, u could always stock up to use in winter?? in the end, even with 2 washes its still cheaper isnt it??

Oh no at the nappies falling apart! I'll have to do a good check of my bamboozles, I think they're fine (apart from the elastic on the one I've had since Riv was newborn), but I'll have a close look.
Trust me - you'd know if they were hon. The terry is literally disintegrating. There's a base weave in the fabric and the terry is woven into that, and it is coming out in clumps.

Someone had some dodgy bamboo arrive a while ago with holes in it, maybe if the companies are using the same supplier it is from the same bad batch?
Ali - could be the case with the ittis, but not the bamboozles - ittis are bamboo fleece and bamboozles are bamboo terry.

Well I'm not sure what is going on with DS but he didn't want his nappy on him this afternoon, and would sit on the potty but wouldn't do anything, and then when he got off, I'd try to get him to put his nappy back on - nope didn't want any part of it... so he went outside for a while after he had peed on the rug and then came back inside - still no nappy allowed on... then he peed on the rug again... and we got him on the potty and congratulated him, even though nothing went in there it was all on the rug, and then I was able to get him in some training pants, which he promptly shiat in and it went all down his leg and then on the rug - AGAIN.. my poor rug.. lol

Soooo not sure if this is the start of something... or if he just had an aversion to the chocolate itti bitti I was trying to put on him (See.. I made it nappy related !!)

    Maz - its ok - I trust Jodi too - she's a queenslander - automatic approval

WOAB: Chocolate itti bitti - finally!
WOMB: ummm.. itti bitti I think.. had her in a WC before and she peed on me .. its been a very big pee and poo day here today

    Hi All!

So here is the first installment of my newborn nappy/covers stash to see if you all think I need more nappies or covers! I would appreciate any and all comments...

I went up in the attic today and dragged out all the nappies and the 0000 and 000 clothes. I know it is WAY early but there is NO way DH is going to let me go up in the attic in another 3-4 weeks and he also has NO clue how I have stuff organized up there so it is just easier and quicker for me to go up there! But maybe it is early early nesting too!! *grin*

So here we go... I have the following...

4 XS WAHM made PUL covers - they are SO cute but I'm wondering if I will get the chance to use them??? DS was 8lbs 4oz so if this baby is the same or (GULP) bigger then I'm thinking NOT???

1 - small and 1 - medium Baby Beehinds covers

    1 - NB, 2 - S, 4 - M Bummis Super Whisper Soft covers

    2 - S, 2 - M Mother-Ease Air Flow covers

    1 - M WAHM fleece cover

Then I have a dozen covers that my step-sister bought for me at Target in the US! Initially (with DS) I thought they were junk - but I had a closer look today and maybe they aren't so bad after all. They are PVC lined but they have leg gussets and I think it was simply a matter of terry flats being too big and bulky for them and I'll probably have more luck using pre-folds or fitteds with them. I think I will only use them at home though and save the other ones for going out!

    NAPPIES:

    I have 24 prefolds

then I have some fitteds that are still out on the line - not sure exactly what sizes they are - they were a gift - but I suspect they are all smalls and mediums. Then I have a few other that I bought - just can't remember what all they are right now so will post again tomorrow night when they are off the clothes line and in front of me!

I'm wondering if I need to try to get ahold of some riki's? Or some high quality fleece covers?

Oh, and how many nappies (total) should I plan on having? DS fed every 60-90 minutes for the first 4-6 weeks and did a poo every feed so we were changing all the time!!!

So any thoughts, comments, ideas would be greatly appreciated... (Gigi, Nelle, Maz, FJ, Raven *grin*)

Falguni - oh petal, gastro is the pits any old time, but on top of being pregnant and looking after a toddler - mamma mia - you poor darling.

Queen - is the Punk got nappy rash?

NaNa - FJ recently (within the last few months i think, with my memory, it COULD have been in the last SIX months!!!) got a red pair of woollies, and i think she said they ran like crazy too. Red must be The colour for the most dye running.

    red pul
    red wool
red hemp (someone on this thread had a Ruby Mandy Mac she ended up nicknaming The Red Demon or something similar, cos it always ran
i'm not sure if red polar fleece runs, but i wouldn't test the theory out!
everything red we have, gets washed separately FIRST, to see how colourfast it is.
The AMOUNT of threads i see online titled "My whole wash turned pink HELP WOT DO I DO?" is enough to make me be cautious. That - and teh fact i only have one munchikin to deal with!
I actually think i might avoid red if i had me a whole tribe of kidlets.

i actually don't have red hand knit woollies, but i do have aqua hand knit woollies that leak quite a bit of dye EVERY wash. i have not noticed aqua on the bilby when she wees, wearing them (but there is a fitted nappy between her skin and the woolly).

the dye running, esp in handknits, is the reason i wash our woollies SEPARATELY, one per bucket to soak. cos i am paranoid, i figure the one time i say "it won't matter", will be the time when dye from one pair, messes up another pair.

NaNa - i remember having a conversation with Mazeroo, about adding the salt, AFTER dyeing, to see if it would fix the dye. I did try it, and i'm afraid to say, nothign changed. but that was not with wool.

my only advice (in lieu of knowing anything else to say) is to handwash SEPARATELY and not risk any dye run. If the dye run is so bad, that dye gets on your child whilst wearing said woollies, i think an email to the maker/seller would be in order. Ask for help. FJ did, and she got satisfaction (from memory).

ARIMEH - yes, i think it's time to elongate your Mel-ness, cos the amount of Mels on here, i am getting lost!

when i have done the DE-STINK WASH (bicarb soda and vinegar), the bicarb soda goes in teh little drawer you normally put wash powder in. (The vinegar goes in teh little drawer provided for fabric softener.) I've only needed to do that once, so i'm happy with that. If you are reading this and thinking "might do that too", please bear in mind, if you wash your MCN with vinegar REGULARLY, you will invalidate your MCN warranties and wreck them. This use of vinegar is really only to be done RARELY. If you got a stinky nappy situation, i would try other things - e.g hot hot water wash BEFORE the bicarb/vinegar solution.

ARIMEH - i'm drying my mcn same as you, alwasy inside on the clothes horse, they are NEVER getting sun, and we're not having any problems.

Sounds like there is much FAK-ing going on in this thread (one handed typing due to Feeding At Keyboard). or wot about Wrangling at Keyboard? WAK=ing? LOL.

    Heidi -
if it was me, i would ditch the PVC covers, i would find it too depressing, all that extra laundry, housework, to clean up after all the leaks, when you are coping with a small baby and a toddler already.

the airflows aren't as adjustable on a tiny bub
i think you are on the money with the Rikki idea, maybe get two small MOtherease Rikkis?

if you buy anymore newborn sized covers, keep the tags on, don't wash them, ask BEFORE YOU BUY, if baby arrives too big for the nb size, can i swap these for smalls? go ahead with sale if they say yes, keep receipts in safe place.

we did 20 changes per day in teh newborn daze too, so i relate to what you say.

    what fabric are your prefolds?
i would suggest teh bamboo prefolds/trifolds at the booroi site - you can get bulk packs.
mazalicious makes very nice bamboo trifolds too, just not sure if they are made in quantities (like a dozen). you can but ask.

the reason i ask "which fabric" is for "bang for your buck".

i found with the COTTON prefodls i bought. used them for nb stage. didn't hold much. coudln't use them PAST nb stage. They are now our change mats for on top of the changetable. Not a good investment - lucky they were cheap.

i found with the BAMBOO prefodls i bought, used them for nb stage, held much more, STILL USING THEM TWO YEARS ON!!! so i feel they are a good investment.

maybe i had a Power Wee-er - i don't know. Heaps of people say, you don't need bamboo for newborns, cos they don't wee much. Well my bub wee-ed heaps and often, so it was worth it for us.

Gals who are not liking their Magicalls for absorbency - many people on here who could help you with that, if you give some more info.

are they the old or new style?
how long are they on the baby for?
some people, make the Old STyle magicalls, work better for them, by CUTTING a slit in the back of the inner (turning it into a pocket) and inserting a bamboo trifold. Thereby increasing the absorbency. ( i think all that is in the old style is microfibre).

Anna and Ali - ooohh we have to catch up before Ali goe on hols! What about between Thurs-Sun. I will volunteer my house if you don't mind the travelling and then you gals can raid my box of goodies

I'm liking the sound of these soap nuts! And did my first wash without detergent today inspired by you all - I don't usually use much anyway. Isn't it funny how conditioned we become to something just because that's the way it has lways been done. I know I wass surprized when my nappies came up shiny using half the recommended amount. I now never use the recommended amount on any of my wshing - saves me fortune.

Have I mentioned how peeved I am at daycare. After Ari's beautiful self motivated toilet training the buggers put her in nappies at daycare and now we are back to square one! I couldn't beleive it when I picked her up and not one pair of undies were used! After I specifically asked! GRRR

Also I am kinda over night nappies at the moment. I seriously don't think they are going to work for us until missy is night weaned (which is what I am working on at the moment) so she is back in sposies at night :-(

    Gigi:
Thanks for all the thoughts on my stash - lots to think about over the next 7 months!! The prefolds I have are cotton - bought them in the states - so we shall see, if I can work some bamboo prefolds into the budget between now and July perhaps I can use the cotton ones for daytime and the bamboo at nighttime maybe! Anyway... I appreciate your thoughts and hope I hear from some others...

Suse - want to throw in your two cents worth??? *grin*

Christy - Sorry I haven't forgotten your question to me AGES ago - I'm in Botany - where are you?

Heidi, I found mother Ease Rikki covers and small BBH pul covers the BEST with Ash when i was using flats. Never had a leak
PVC covers are crappy I would ditch them. They don't breath, they leak badly, they irritate the skin... JMO

Thanks Gigi, once I read what you called it in a previous post I could search it - just couldn't put the proper name to the thread and as you can imagine in a pregnancy/baby forum 'testing/tester' generates a lot of hits :-)

Lilprecious - sounds like you have an awesome start! I used pvc covers over my terrys in the beginning but I wasn't the best in the folding so got A LOT of poosplosions. But they were OK for in between poopings :-)

OK I'm going to bite - what's Mel (arimeh) up too???? guesses??? Something to do with colours? Bodypainting her kidlets? stealing cars, painting them different colours and reselling them?
