Mel - we were only talking about it yesterday cause Anna was asking about it as well ...you'll probably find that they wont be as irritating on Ashton's bum, especially with NR...only thing I do (thanks to Christy) is put in Bicarb once a week and every 3rd wash I use some disinfectant..just a cap full.

I should give this washing with no liquid a try I think.. my nappies smell funny after a wash..... could be the Amolin ya reckon?

And where do you put the bicarb? in the dispenser that the fabric softener goes in? I put my liquid down the inside of the agitator - so would the disinfectant go in there? Any help appreciated!!!!!!

Mazzie - colours? was that to me or one of the other Mels - damn difficult to know with so many mels in here... I may *shock horror* have to start going by my extended name *gasp*

Have child on me - difficult to type. BBL

Have gastro. Feeling sorry for me.

Maz got parcel, will try and get to post office today, no promises but will do my best.

Mel- i put the bicarb in where i would put washing powder if i use it. i was using purity and my nappies got a more smelly. Apparently even the mild detergents build up a little in the nappies which in turn causes smells. The left over residue is what makes your clothes smell nice, then the bad smalls can get 'trapped' with the residue making them smelly. (This is how it was explained to me anyway!)
Detergent doesn't disinfect, it has no antibacterial properties, all the de-germing is done by the sun. So the way i see it is if they look clean from just water and i hang them in the sun they are fine. Bicarb eliminates odour. I have some in my fridge all the time to absorb any nasty smells!

I am keen to find out more about soap nuts though...... are they a detergent?

Lying on loungroom floor watching justine clarke. A gals gotta do what she can to survive!

So you should only do that if you are going to hang them out in the sun? Since I'm at work during the week, a lot of my washing is done of a night time then hung on the clothes horse inside - a couple of times a week they get put outside in the sun - but more often than not they are hanging inside.

I dont always use detergent either, and I haven't had a problem so far. DS only gets rashy when he's been teething. Everything smells clean.

Gigi - you pretty much got me where I am today with MCN, and you put it so nicely... I have such a handful of a child who is seriously allergic to sleep, therefore I couldn't possibly find two brain cells to rub together and put it all into words again... but I have a question for you that you've no doubt answered before - I put my new woolies in to soak in lanolin and the water immediately turned the same colour as the woolies. If this amount of dye is going to run, it's going to turn everything red every time kiddo wees. Should I use salt to fix the dye? Or will the vinegar do it?
OK, I have an overtired screamer in my lap... gotta go

soapnuts- i dont mind them as they've been the only thing ive used on dragon's washing. havent had any problems YET

i dry ALL our clothes on a clothes horse indoor cos there's major roadworks going on near us. I'd love to take them out in the sun though...

i love my babylegs (but DP thinks they make dragon poo fy)...guess i'd hav to invest in more then LOL

    WOHB: sage haute

ETA- i know this isnt really nappy related, but what do u like to carry ur babies? we have an ergo, i like it but im after something else that would allow me to bend so that i can still do work ard the house...

Well (touch wood) I think we have found the culprit!!! I think Em is allergic to tea tree oil!! She is getting clearer every day!! Any other suggestions for de-stinking the nappy bucket?

Gigi - Do you want the liners back hun? We havent used them coz your link arrived the day before the liners. I had not thought of the tea tree oil causing it before reading that link.

MissyMoo Mel - There have been MANY times that I have asked a question that someone answered on the previous page. Dont worry, we all do it at least once!

Suppose I should go do some washing so we have clean clothes to pack, but knowing me it will be done later.

I often put some cornstarch or bicarb in the bottom of the bucket to soak any...erm, juices. And maybe a drop of eucalyptus or lavender? Lavender might be less irritating...
