whoever needs the microfleece liners, i would just go to a mcn fabric supplies site, buy half a metre and hae it posted to you. it's such light stuff, postage woudln't be much.

    e.g
    fairy fabrics
    nappies covered
    baby delight
    nappyworks
    tiny toosh

just make sure you get MICRO fleece, not MICROfibre or POLARfleece.
100wt malden mills fleece is fine for liners too.

just cut it up into the size you need, no sewing required, just cutting. won't fray in the wash (yeh).

Kitt3n, we were changing bilbs up to TWENTY (count em) times per day at the nb stage!! yep, she was a very freq but tiny amount type of bub. thank goodness for prefolds + the leg gusset covers! My little poo volcano!! how somebody so tiny and cute could poo so much and so often i will never know!!! i was hearting that Little Squirt VERY often i can tell you!! i got to find out that drypailing works REAL quick.

the bummis liners are lovely and soft, i don't think you'll be disappointed with the softness. However, on a newborn, disposable liners aren't going to catch very much in the way of watery nb poo, i think they are really for a little bit later on, when poo is at least pastey. the tots bots ones are very soft too.

BEATRIX - yeh for Annika on the day training. esp that she did this over xmas/ny AND in the midst of moving house. woot to her! Did you offer her the carrot of special knickers? or any other motivation?

Where is the auction of Starbunz animal MCN? is this an ebay thang? i just wanna see the monkey one!

Today, bilby noticed that the baby for January, on our new Aust Nappy Network Calendar, was wearing a nappy and gumboots, and so was she, she giggled herself silly over that! I wonder if she will recognise herself when it comes time to put up February!!!

wotbb: Lotus night nappy and possum pouches soaker (woollie in shape of cover but with leg cuffs).

Does anyone have any Bumwear nappy pants? Just looking at them now and they seem really good as we are going to start TT with Charlotte as soon as we get home, so she will be about 15 months by then....and since she has been walking since 10.5 months and has started talking now, can tell us when she needs a new nappy, we figure it must be just about time.
So I thought I should get some of these nappypants, as I am using disposable Nappy pants now anyway. But the sizing seems odd...I think I should get small, because CHarlie is still not even 10 kgs yet, but she has always needed the higher rise...

So anyone know what I am talking about? lol

    Talking

    Hi Everyone!

It's been ages since I've been on here cos I really didn't have anything to add!

    But I do today!

We just went on our first camping trip with Jett! Not the caravan park type, but the real rough, no running water, squat in the bushes type! I debated what kind of nappies to take for Jett but in the end both DH and I decided that we could do full time cloth for 4 days out in the bush. Either way we would have to take the soiled nappies home with us so at least we wouldn't have to carry soiled sposies about with us and fill up our bin when we got home.

It worked a treat! And we got a lot of interest in our nappies from the people we were camping with. One is pregnant now and 2 are planning kids in the next couple of years. They were impressed with the nappies themselves, having never seen them before, and the fact that we were camping and still using them = extra points, they must be easy!!

And DH - there is nothing that sells the idea of cloth nappy than a husband who loves bragging about them and telling all and sundry about how good and easy they are! You just know that they can't be that bad if a Dad loves them!! I'm so proud of him!! Especially since he was against the idea of cloth in the beginning!

MAZ - Happy birthing day to you hon, happy turning one day Matteauz! have a wonderful party won't you?

MummyTummy - you don't have to wait until you have something THAT huge to share! we'd love to hear from you even when you havne't just been camping with cloth!

did you take four days worth of MCN with you? is that how you managed (in a place with no washing machine). and does that mean you had to STORE four days worth of MCN, i'm curious how much room that took up.

there are threads on Nappycino about using cloth on all sorts of holidays, yours would be a perfect story to add to that thread. People post them, so that when others are considering holidays and MCN< they can read what others have done, get ideas from that.

How wonderful your dh has "come around" too!

LIMEY - yes, bilby is Miz February. The print is quite dark, so her top is not THAT blue, her skin is not THAT dark, but you get the general idea.

KITTEN, you can see some of the calendar pics, by going to the ozebaby website, click on the ANN store (Australian Nappy Network). The calendar is one of the listing they have, of their products for sale (advocacy tshirts etc).

the money they raise thru the calendars, helps to promote MCN e.g finance Real Nappies Week and other advocacy events thruout the year.

LIMEY - there are some great threads on Nappycino about cloth training pants. I think cos your bub is so young, you would benefit from looking at the websites for Tribal Baby (click on the stockists links) and Noonee WIlga (check out the half pints and the onewets) also, for training pants for younger bubs. Also Bongo Baby.

Charlotte is going great, with her speech etc, good on her. I have a 11kg child and i'm finding it ahrd to find knickers the right size for her (we're attemtping SOME tt-ing, but without the language that Charlotte has, cos bilby has very few words, and none of them are wee or poo!).

noonee wilga makes custom tiny knickers called HALF PINTS.

i'm about to try the BumWear trainers soon, will tell you how they go.

i have seen the Bummis trainers in a IRL mcn shop, they are massive and ****y.

i got the blueberry trainers in small (2nd hand), they are ok on bilby, but are also ****y. i will use them for car trips, shopping cnetres, because they have the hidden PUL layer. (once she is trained at home i mean).

i met a seven month old who was EC-ing and wearing knickers full time (keeping they dry too), so you can get tiny knickers.

Charlotte sounds like a very clever little chooky, to have so much language. i'm just not used to it, having a child the other end of the spectrum (very little language at two).

here is a list of some MCN trainging pant brands and where to get them:

    • bummis
    • motherease (nurturenappies)
    • little beetle
    • imse vimse (new age nappies)
    • bambino mio (ecobabe)
    • starbunz learners (darlingsdownunder)
    • simple simon (twins in cloth)
    • happy heiny pocket trainers (the weewuns)
    • bumwear (brindabella baby)
    • bongo baby (bongo baby)
    • blueberry minky trainers (baby blossom and the weewuns)
    • one wets (noonee wilga)
    • there are some wool ones on nurturenappies too, i forget which brand

there are more, but that's what my memory has for today

    the diffs seem to be
    - if you can stuff them or not
    - if the inner is absorbent or stay dry fabric
    - if they are pullup style, or snaps
    - waterproof layer on outer, or hidden layer
    - sizing (many start at 11kg)
    - made of synthetics, or natural fibres, or a mix
    - if they are boofy or ****y, or whether they are "sleek" and feel more like knickers
    - rise varies too - i think just like MCN, it's worth measuring Charlotte's rise, adn checking with sellers, before you buy, to make sure the rise will suit her.

Some kids seem to TT very quickly, like in a week.
others go thru stages, transition from one to teh next
    others take ages
some day train but might take a year to night train
    sounds like it varies heaps.

wotbb: lotus night nappy in large (on smallest setting) with ellybelly soaker (woollie).

mummy tummy - we recently went away for 4 days as well, and I took our mcn with us. We stayed in a cabin at the beach, and although there was a washing machine at the laundry in the park, it was so small, so I didn't bother using it, cause then I'd have to put it all in the dryer as well. So we waited until we got home to wash them. It went fantastic.

gigi - I took about 90% of our stash, as I didn't know if we had laundry facilities or not. I folded all of ours up and stashed them in a sports bag. I also took our nappy bin, which is a 60litre bin with a flip lid. I was worried about the smell, as we were in just a big open room, but nothing!
Are you finding it difficult to find undies to suit her cause she's small?
Nina tt in about 4 weeks, and is mostly dry at night now. But yeah, they are all different.

Jodi - bilbs is 11kg and the size 2-3 knickers i have bought her so far, are very gapey in the legs and also a bit loose in the waist. SHe is three months younger than your Nina. Due to how our unit is, totally not suitable for bare time or knicker time, nonstop for a week, i think it will take us much longer. we also have no outdoor access.

People tell me to let her run around naked or just in knickers, for a week, stay at home all the time for a week, give her heaps of time outside, (which we can't do) and inside is so cluttered, it's just not do-able here). Best i can come up with (compromise) is to have her in knickers for an hour a day, while we are holed up in the dark hallway, all doors to rooms shut.

she sometimes still does some pretty sloppy/pastey poo action, so i'm too nervous about that, to let her run around (say at a playground) with just a dress or long tshirt on. i mean - how could i get that to work? everytime she went anywhere near a swing or slippery dip, i'd be wanting to be putting a nappy on her! it would be a nightmare.

i am finding TT-ing a bit of a minefield! MCN was so straightforward! you put the nappy on, child poops in said nappy - repeat the cycle - i knew what i was doing there! now - i have no idea.

As usual Gigi you are a wealth of information! Thanks you very much!
Charlotte is only just beginning to have actual words, but can certainly understand and indicate to her nappy when she needs a new one. I dont know how close to doing the poo deciding she needs a new nappy actually is, but hey its a start! We just figure that there is no harm in trying to teach her things now, it could still take til shes 3 but maybe not. DH has a massive aversion to poo so the quicker the better for him I think.
She now says mummy and dad (cant quite get to daddy yet lol) , ice cream, ta, bye, hi, that sort of thing. She natters on and on non stop and even though the words arent right you can understand what she is saying, the sounds and inflections are there - she just nver shuts up anymore!! lol
I will have to go and hunt down Miss B's pics! how exciting for you too!
Have you moved recently? We had to move a couple of months ago into a tiny 2 bedroom unit, it is like a shoe box, and with a housefull of furniture it is hideously cramped. half the things are still in boxes cos I have no room for it either. I hate it! I am so glad the house will be finished in July so I dont have to stay there for long. I can understand how you feel at the moment.

Thanks again for the info - I only found about half those lol

Gigi congrats on the little calendar girl

Hi MummyTummy! We went camping to a place with similar "facilities" when Caleb was 4 months old too. I had this discussion a few pages back with exactly the same reasoning about the sposies! I took one of those gigantic myer sack type plastic bags so I could squish it into the boot of the car.

TT is very doable with just undies on. At daycares for example, when they start tt children, they put them in undies and take them to the toilet every hour. They have them sit there for as long as possible. You do get quite a few accidents, but you have to be ready for it. Unfortunately there's no way around that. They need learn what doing wees and poos are, and a lot of the time they need to do one in their undies, or on the floor to realise. When we started tt Nina, she did poos on the toilet just fine, but wouldn't do a wee on the toilet for about 2 weeks. It was a nightmare, as there were lots of accidents. I was persistent because she was showing the signs of being ready, but just too scared to do a wee on the toilet. Once she did her first wee on the toilet, she never went back.
Each child is different. Just wait until you feel she is ready. Don't worry about her age, she could be 3 and still in nappies, that's ok.

Gigi - I allowed for 6 nappies per day + a few emergencies, but I found i gave him quite a bit of nappy free time cos it was so warm so we didn't use all of them. We took our 20L nappy pail and put all the dirties in there. The bucket did smell a bit ripe when lifting the lid but it didn't smell at all with the lid on. We were mindful of space as well because we had the dog with us and very limited room in the car but it all seemed to fit well. All the unused nappies were in a suitcase with Jett's clothes and mine so it all packed away quite neatly! Oh and congrats on your little calendar girl!

Jodi - It's a real sense of achievement when you manage to go away and continue to use your MCNs as per usual. It really does show that they are just as convenient as sposies.

Raven - about 'facilities'!! One way of putting it! I hadn't thought about a Myer sack, but I did think a giant wetbag with a zip closure would be a good idea. I just don't own one and not sure if they even make them. I think they need to seal well judging on the fermenting stench coming from inside the bucket! Especially in the heat.

I think 4 days would be my limit before they need to be washed!!

It sure is mummy tummy. I was very proud of myself for taking them. It was absolutely no hassle at all.
On our way home we stopped in at Townsville for some lunch, and a lady approached me asking if the cover on Emily's butt was a maz-a-licious cover I was shocked, and very proud to say yes indeed it was
