Im glad you did so well with $$$ last night Maz :)
Even my Dh got excited when I said Id gotten 2 covers  Jett said 'Oh wow awesome cool!' when I said I got him the polar bears. Although he's back in sposies for now because he was complaining his head hurt so had to take some nurofen to stop the screaming *sigh*
Trialed Rip in his very own Sandman last night too and so far so good :)
What sort of fabrics should I be looking at, to make liners and wipes?
I tired to find 'little additions microfleece at spotlight, with no luck so far - which section would it be in?
I did ask the girl there but she looked at me blankly and just kinda walked away.
WOW this tread moves fast, you ladies sure can talk!
I'm just a little concerned as I've been trawling through all the differnt MCN sites you ladies have been chatting about only to find that some of the major ones are manufactured outside Australia, mostly in china.
I would never have purchased them if I knew they weren't made in Australia, so now I'm a little upset that I didn't read further before purchasing.
Does this worry anyone else?
Cheeky - most of the WAHM ones are manufactured here in Australia. I *think* the only ones on my site that are manufactured in China are the Cute Tooshies now that they have been brought out by Bubblebubs (I'm sure I read that on their website..)
cheekymonkey - the ones I have at home are manufactured all over the place - US, australia, NZ, UK.
The ones that I know are made in China are done so as 'fair trade' or ethical companies.
dont go worrying about that honey ;) all sorted for liners
for wipes you can use sherpa, flannel, unbrushed fleece, towelling
Anna - you can always hide your sposies with a cover ;)
hmm Cheeky - go trawling like I do on the wahm sites - ozebaby, wahmnaps, wahmania, miniculture ... their all work at home mum's or woman doing their bit for thier sanity :)
Rayray - check your emails honey ;)
Vic - you'll have to wait ner ner.......Ive made a promise to someone
Poor Vy atm....she's got a mossy bite under her eye and she's all puffed up so it looks like ive given her a black eye...poor bugger :(
:leap: I think it's working!!!!
We're only 2 nappies in but the bamboo velour seems to be doing the trick, not even a hint of red so far... I am ridiculously excited... almost to the point of crying, how sad am I?! I was really thinking we might never use cloth again...!!!
So, so happy!!!
Anna, I've been using Mazzy covers over spossies - can't stand the sight of them 'naked'!
ETA: Kitt3n - you are evil telling me WC hadn't sold out... I have like 10 nappies in my cart over there now lmao, am going to have to cull it to maybe two... argh, decisions!!
I also forgot that I could do this...
WOPB: Purple bumwear w/bamboo velour liner - WOOT!!!! :D
QM - Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy for the liners working!!! wooohoooo!!!!!!
oh VIc I so hear you....YAY on being back in the grind babe :)
ETA - Omg Omg omg im just a LITTLE excited!!! Matilda and Archie on WAHMnaps have custom tutu's up for sale!!!!!! They are GORGEOUS!!!! I had to snaff one for Vy OMG they are beautiful!!!!!!!!!
Sorry but I can jsut see a pot of gold sticking out form underneith these guys!!!!!!
Maz, I am NOT putting a tutu on my boy! I draw the line at beads, babylegs and purple singlets!
I finally have a bub to try my MCNs on :D so excited.
Hayden arrived of his own free will 11 days late on 4/2/09. He was a big boy too - 9lb 10 (4.37kg). Unfortunately that means he doesn't fit into the newborn magicall I bought him :(
I had my first foray into MCNs yesterday but it didn't go too well. The magicall didn't fit so I went to put his bumgenius AIO on instead but he peed and it went all over the nice clean nappy, his mummy and the change table. That was too much for one day so I'm gonna try again today. I think I'll try the Itti Bitti this time. :crossfingers:
On the plus side, DH has agreed to spend some rudd$$ on nappies. Yay!
A question for the cloth experts - I read somewhere that the eenies liners can be cut in half but I can't find it again. Would you cut them lengthways so they are long strips or across? I realise these are useless on BF poo but couldn't convince DH.
Another question, Hayden is quite long & skinny. What nappies would you recommend for him? I would like to get mainly AIOs or Pockets so they are nice & simple for DH. He seems to be a heavy wetter IMO so I'm thinking bamboo would be best. I'd also like a mixture of sized & one-size.
Nappies I've bought so far are
Baby Beehinds trial pack - Bamboo fitted, Hemp fitted & NB Magicall, PUL cover & Wool Cover
Greenkids trial pack - 2 OSFA Anytime
Small Itti Bitti
OFSA Tots Bots AIO bamboo
Small peapods
NB Bambinio Mio
Bumgenius XS AIO
Sorry this is a bit longer than I expected.
TIA
Maz congrats on the successful stocking :D i missed out :( oh well....
nappy talk...hmmmmm got heaps washed BUT they are going to take FOREVER TO DRY...it is still wet here....
WOJB ~ BBB / maz minky cover (tiger i think)
Thanks ladies I think I will start trawling through the WAHM stores now instead.
I know they say it's all done through the "fair trade" stuff but I still don't like the idea of them not being made in Australia.
I like the idea of giving my money to WAHM's instead anyway so I think that's the way to go now.
Maz I missed your stocking :( When I remembered all the ones I wanted were gone. Actually I forgot about ALL the stockings on last night. oops.
hmmm yep had a great night..$200 later...(seafood platter)
hmmmm i reckon new nappies are in order..... ;)
2 nappies are on their way across the sea....
I need some very absorbant fitteds.
I've been looking at BBB and Cute Tooshies.
What are the differences between them for you experienced ladies?
Should I get something else?
At the moment she can wet through an Itti Boo in under an hour and I might get two hours out of a bambineo bamboo fitted boosted with a bamboo prefold and bamboo booster.
I need something for nights and long car trips/outings.
ll80 - I have BBH, also use a Happy Heiny sherpa fitted and a Very baby fitted, both stand up pretty well with my heavy wetters overnight without any extra boosting! We use night nappies (Sandmans) but the fitteds work well for daytimes too and you could always boost them for long trips/outings.
Congratulations Kerrie!!!! Great news - congrats on your little *big* man!!!!!!
Dunno about the liners - I don't really use them.
My kids are long and skinny too. For DD - I use the following (if this helps at all!)
Sized BumG's (she is only just beginning to be a bit big for the smalls!)
Ittis
Cute Tooshies
Baby Beehinds Bamboo
Monkey Doodlez AIO's
Umm... lots of different stuff!!! I don't use many pockets for her yet, but since she is out of her smalls - I'm gonna have to start putting her in the bumg pockets now that her brother uses.
My offer is still there to come around and check out my stash - try a few things on, see how they fit on your boy.
Congrats again!!!
Cheeky Monkey - i notice on some australian nappy websites, on the web menu, there is a link called "Aust made" - so yes, you are not alone, there are others who also want to buy Aust made.
Some well known Aust nappy brands BEGAN life as one Aust mum at home sewing, then grew to such successful sizes, that they needed to outsource the sewing, and some have moved production "Offshore" which often means - China.
but there are SO MANY australian made nappies, it would not be hard to only buy aust made if that was your desire. I think sometimes that does mean a price difference, due to labour costs, but just by me guessing and not really knowing, i suspect that many WAHM's underpay themselves when it comes to labour costs. I do know the fabrics they use are expensive.
sometimes you will see cheap nappies and people get excited by a bargain, but when you look closer, the materials used are not so good (for the purpose you require them to do - e.g soak up wee), so sometimes a bargain isn't a bargain - and it goes without saying - these bargains are ususally made in China.
If buying Australian made is your heart's desire, don't worry, it is possible.
the wahm sites Maz mentioned are a great start
wahmnaps
wahmania
minicuteture
ozebaby
i'm pretty sure greenkids is an aust (perth) made product - i think it's one of their selling points on their website, but truely, if you're ever in doubt, email the site you're browsing through.
the new ecobots (OSFA fitteds) are australian made (at nurturenappies), i met the owner/designer at a local fair. she is outsourcing to australian sewers, and you'll note, the price of her nappy is higher than other similar products, because she pays australian wages. So there you have the trade off - will people pay the extra - to have an Australian worker sew the nappy?
WHoever was asking about a very absorbent fitted nappy, i would recommend the SOY BAMBOO cute tooshies OSFA fitted to fit that criteria.
Reply i typed out last night, but it did n't post (lucky i kept a copy JIC)
hi tk and welcome
here is my "useful mcn stuff to buy at nb stage" list for you
- sensitive, low irritant washing powder e.g Aware Sensitive by Planet Ark (available at supermarkets)
- wetbag for going out (even in first week, i had to visit hospital, change baby few times while i was there, so wetbag came in handy IMMEDiately.
- microfleece liners to put inside your nappies - if your local Spotlight doesn't have it (they usually stock it in winter only), you can buy it online at places like nappiescovered - just yell out if you can't find it and PM me for more ideas
- Little Squirt - it's a plumbing attachment you put on your toilet - like a water gun, so you can squirt the poo OFF the nappies, and DOWN the loo
- bamboo prefolds, bamboo trifolds, bamboo foldups, bamboo inserts
- PUL covers with leg gussets to catch that runny, explosive, all directions nb poo. brands that make these include bambino mio, imse vimse, motherease rikki, bummibrites, thirsties.
- baskets to put on a shelf, labelled
"prefolds"
"covers"
"liners"
so when you are in the nb fog of no sleep, it's a no brainer, what to use and dh's have no excuse not to know where to find stuff!
- a squirty spray bottle to keep near change table, to wet a wipe with at change time. at the start, changes are so frequent, this will save you some time
- join australian breastfeeding association, they have a good education class too
- join nappycino forum
- join ozclothnappies yahoo group
(plua belly belly of course, then you will never be short of places to ask all the gazillion questions you will have, and many supportive mums to talk to).
using flats, which are bulky, you might need a SMALL cover immed
using bamboo prefolds, which are trim, you might need NB covers immed
i highly recommend the cloth breastpads, the sposie ones irritated my nipples, the cloth ones were wonderful.
sounds like you are well on your way, happy nesting!
QUEEN MABEL - wishing you luck for your first day of natural liners, hope it does the trick for you hon. and punky of course!
Ammended to say - woot! it worked! i'm so happy! i share "anti rash" stuff to soooo many people (which i thought included you), i think i had assumed you woulnd't want to hear from me, all over again about the same topic. I feel like i bore the same people to death with the same info, or don't say it when it's needed (like in your case) by accident. bangs self in head on nearest door. You have been asking for help for ages, and i assumed you had already tried all the suggestions i give out, which clearly wasn't the case at all. i feel so bad, helping lots of strangers and then YOU need the help, and i mistakingly thought you already knew this stuff e.g had tried natural liners adn they didn't work - or something like that. i do feel like a goose now.
oooooh Kat look at you!! phwoarrrrr!
Maz, just for you, I'd do it. I'm sure DS would understand!
ll80 - have you thought of adding a bamboo or hemp booster to a pocket nappy or boosting a fitted? I sometimes use a boosted BumG or Pocket Change overnight (when all the NN are wet) or for long car trips because DS can wet thru a BBB in under an hour.
Kerrie - you can cut the Eenees liners in thirds probably for NB size (but I couldn't be bothered), because if you cut it in half widthways it's too wide and lengthways it's too narrow. Personally, I prefer the softer Bummis or totsbots ones that are just the right size. JMO!
WOHB: BumG
ETA: 10% off at darlings downunder till midnight - PM me for the code. They have Aus made nappies.
geez thanks Nana  LOL
my poor lil man has a red bum :( teething sucks!!! thank god for moo goo and being able to use it with nappies...
anyone mad about elephants, cutest baby shoes, all leather for only $10!!! on clearance, at berri-berri website. two sizes, 0-6 months, and 6 - 12 months.
other critters too, but no cows - bad luck to the moo mad gals.
i saw it by searching for ladybird baby shoes.
and if you want to dress your kid up like a bee, i found gazillions of bee inspired baby stuff at the annegeddes site - it's a US site and has no country letters o nthe end.
wotbb: wiggles knickers (a wee in the potty gets her babycone of icecream and a star sticker)
I have a few green kids pockets which she uses overnight for around 7 hrs atm
in it i put the GK bamboo insert & booster as well as the microfibre booster that came with bumg pocket.
it's soaking by the time she wakes up and sometimes so full it leaks, i also prefer not to have PUL on her for too long, especially as I don't think it will be long before she is sleeping 12 odd hours
so far i am thinking the cute tooshies is the way to go for the side snaps which seem to fit better on her and its all bamboo
*cough cough*
Just incase anyone is interested in this thread..
*whistles..*

Laura - Green Kids Minkys are for overnight as well if you are worried about the PUL being on her all night. I use the minky ones for DS.
no cows???????????? what are they thinking???? good thing i cleaned up on moo stuff last night (DH was rather happy!)
for those using moo goo for eczema and psoriasis - not sure if you got their email, but they have a new cream specifically for these now
nappy wise - i'm with Rayray - what does everyone recommend for making wipes - i ordered some last night, but not sure if i should jsut get some material myself and get them overlocked... i know i'll need a few, but have no idea HOW MANY i need, and whether i'm best sticking to the little ones or should get some bigger ones...
Enabler! Enabler! Enabler!
I just went and bought some shoes.
Oh Mel you layby too!!! I might have to take you up on that, I is po-or but I want one of those happy Heiny nappy sprayer thingys....
Gigi - You no doubt told me about the liners but I may have missed it or skimmed it... your posts are a wealth of info & my brain is only so big lmao. How great is it that it's working though?! I've been so happy about it all day.
Maz - Ooooh on the tutu - I am going to be making some soon!! Will have to post pics, just waiting for my netting to arrive.
Cheeky Monkey - The WAHM that used to make Cushie Tushies was absolutely swamped before they outsourced. They spent 6 months researching and were very picky about conditions. They are also being very picky with the standard of work that comes out. I have some of the older ones and some of the newer ones, and TBH the only differences are the mini booster is bigger in the new ones, and the inner is all microfleece, whereas the old minky ones had the matching mini booster. They still last just as long on and are still just as absorbent. If we have any issues with broken snaps (I had 1 on 1 of my old ones and 1 on 1 of my new ones) they get fixed pretty quickly.
Em is still quite rashy from the bikkies she stole the other day. So I have put zinc and a sposie on her for bed :( Oh well, I hope she is all clear by morning for daycare!!
BG I made most of my wipes from flanellette and terry towelling. They aren't as lush and soft as some of the ones we have bought, but they work, and sometimes the little bit rougher is needed for poo removal.
Nearly time to tackle Sarah for bed.
WOEB: Sposie :(
WOSB: Bubble J soon to be changed to a CT.
gigi - berriberri, what a great site!! so many things, so affordable! elephants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
ll80 - i absolutely love my swaddlebees organic velour one size fitteds. so much that i have just lay byed 7 more (dont tell DH!!) that will make 10 of them, i like these much more than the sized ones of the same brand.
WOHB - um DH changed her.... swaddlebees OV AIO
Thanks for the advice Gigi - and all the other gals... you really are all a absolute wealth of knowledge
Heeeey.... I have a plain, or smooth magic-all & it is in the "last resort pile" as it always seems to leak... the minkee ones look so devine though... someone tell me they are better...?!
What do you like about the Swaddlebees organic velour Kitten? They look yummy!
Vic, glad Punk is going well in the cloth!
How long should I leave Jett out of cloth for after having nurofen? He had his first and only dose yesterday arvo.
I went and got some paw paw cream too cause chub-boy Rip has chaffing, its a yellow label/white tub - thats the right one yeah? cause the health food guy assured me no petrochemicals etc etc.
WORB - Happy Heiny sherpa fitted and aqua/choc dots Maz cover
WOJB - sposie unless I brave the nurofen butt with his Elephant Sandman and BBH cover lol
well I am back from my trip. missed the maz stocking but scored 2 daydreamers at the WC stocking... and some laundry powder. I love the powder, i brought a 2kg bag on the 18th of december and its only just ran out! that is washing with 3 kids and 2 adults!
AnnaT nurofen is ok. Doesn't stain :) Only panadol/dymadon. Look in the ingredients for SORBITOL. Thats what stains.
QM I love out minky magicalls!! We had the old style smooth and they leaked yadayada but the new ones with the boosters and pockets are so much better!! The minky ones we have had on overnight 'accidentally and not a leak!
