hello ladies

thought i'd pop in and say hi as i've finally given way and an heading in the cloth direction. Shame it's just with my last and she is 8 months old already but i think it makes sense environmentally and financially and because they are just so sute (but didn;t use last point on dh).
Put my orders in last night for 2 bumGs, trial pack happy heinys, trial pack IBs and trial pack GK plus a few extras and one set of baby legs, so looking forward to fluffy mail int he next few weeks.
Hopefully i won't be too confused but reading through this thread has some great tips for a newby like me.

Maz, Im waiting for DH to lift my overlocker on to the table for me :( Im not sure IU can do them on the regular machine, can i?

BG - yep, but you still have to use front loader detergent on the eco/aqua smart cycles, and the manual says to use liquid detergent.

well that's gonna make me a grump rayray! will have to investigate - i don't like liquids lol

i love liquids. we always had trouble in our FL with powder.

However, maybe you can pre dissolve powder and use it that way? Im not sure

amolin liquid is the one most people mention i think hun - nice and gentle and nappy friendly

just have to make sure DH doesn't over pour when he's filling the machine... can't wait to get my new machine (bring on the redundancy money!)

Eco store is in most coles and safeway/woolies stores. It's in a pale blue box with a black and white photo on the front of all their products. I think you can buy it online from Nurture Nappies, but it's probably easier and cheaper to look out for it on special at the supermarket. It's about $8 usually. You only need the smallest amount, so even in a front loader I reckon you wouldn't have much of a problem with it.

Marlene- I got large IB too... Hope they fit... If not they will eventually,.... no fluff mail here maybe my cheap babylegs tomorrow... YAY...

I do have a front loader so hopefully Eco Store or Euca is safe for them? I shall head back to the shop tomorrow, gotta go to spotters anyway.

Washing - we use liquid - hate powder.

I hate powder too we use another sensitive wash I can't remember its name at the mo. Used to use Amolin but my coles don't stock it anymore.

I use tri nature concentrate powder for washing. It's wonderful!!

i use eco store .. nelle uses bicarb only if I recall?

Well, I didn't get any IBs :( but there are still some left!

Had to show the CC how to do up the BP today - it was so loose it was hanging on his butt. One leg was nice & tight, the other was 3 snaps too loose!

The FB's arrived today, very gorgeous! Long minkee! YUM!

re washing powder- ive been using soap nuts. not everyone's cup of tea though.

i miss getting fluffy mail, but im still in the process of getting everything back into place after our trip. besides my dads come over for the month so bit occupied with that.

when i finally get ard to it, think ill start with NN as dragon is slowly growing out of the magicalls :( guess i'll be starting from point zero when it comes to shopping time, guess will be needing some enablers :rofl:

Katones, i would not bother tumble drying any covers, they are made out of polyester, so dry fast naturally. Heat is the enemy of elastic, so save your elastic too.

I found an organic cotton clothing site, that caters for cloth bums! it's called Earthlings (nz).

we use AM-O-LIN for all of Jacks nappies/clothes. love the stuff would use it on mine and DH stuff aswell but i use something totally different for ours...strange i know...just me...

WRT Ittis - Gab is not long its a bit chubby but petite ... she has a tiny bum an hips, she fits a 00 at 8 mths and is a slow gainer .. maybe i'll measure her and ask @ itti as i have got an email re the layby yet ..

i shoould get fluff today 2 bubble bubbs off b4b , i used to like bubble bubs , but they are wide in the crotch and dd can out wet them , the always get sodden a the top of the nappy ...

BG- fwiw Gabriella fit the small magic alls > 6 mths i stopped using them @6.5 mths as the rise was too short .. however the MED will fit her for aaaages .. unless she is big sml will fit to about 3 mths ..

OMG! I am finding it so hard to change Jack's bum and dress him at the moment. He tries to run away when I am dressing and is like a contortionist...can squirm his way out of any hold! Either that or he just goes floppy, which is just as difficult! It is driving me BONKERS at the moment!

Morning all - whinge ahead...

My back hurts :( I went to physio yesterday arvo and she told me that my pelvis is out already :( Not good. She said she can't do anything for my sciatic pain (which extends down into my calf muscle) because nothing she does will fix it until we get my pelvis back in. Ouch. Does not bode well for a pregnancy free of SPD for me!

Plus - I have a cold and I feel like crap. And I smell cos I haven't showered. And DD is not liking sleep at the moment, but my back hurts too much to carry her around.

But on the plus side- I put all the nappies together last night, so at least the nappies look nice and full.

See - was nappy related eventually.

WOAB: IB - was a honeyboy but he outweed that in less than 1.5hours - through his clothes, on the carpet... *sigh*
WOMB: custom made GF but can't tell you whats on it cos its wayyyy to secret ;)

oh no, just realised that the washing liquid I use has optical brighteners in it too - use to use Amolin so might give that a go again.

In regards to the bicarb thing - do you use that for your clothes as well? or just nappies?

what does everyone clean out their nappy buckets with?

Well someone has just decided to take off their dirty nappy and wave it over their head whilst running around the house...mmmm lovely.

Nana- lol at the backwards nappy - Charlotte is a bit like that at the moment...takes the length of the house or a lot of carry on to change her!

Kellie -nappy bucket - hot water and tea tree, lavender or eucalyptus oil. I do use Glen 20 on the outside of the bucket between washes sometimes though, cos she like to carry it around the house and play with lol

Just wanted to let you guys know the baby legs are sooooooo awesome!! He had his full cast put on yesterday, up to his hip :(, and the physio told me to put a 'sock or something' over it when I could to stop it slipping while he was trying to get around - they're perfect!! Little man is doing OK considering, today has been a bit rough but to be expected while he gets used to his cast I think.

willow - the whizz kids are live now hun! have fun!

No more spending for me... :( on a ban from fluff and BL for a while. i am broke... hot water blew up and just cost me $370 to get it fixed... :(

Off to look for bum cream... little miss's rash from the sposie is now all broken and bleeding... :(

I got all my backpay from c'link yesterday so I've been very, very tempted to spend up big but I really don't need much else now except a few nb/small Maz fleecie covers if I can manage to nab a few before July sometime.

Arimeh - sciatica in preg - i can so relate to that! i have two words for that - hydrotherapy classes for pregnant women - and maternity tankini - brilliant. But i didn't have to contend with a "dropped pelvis", i hope you get some relief from that, like YESTERDAY cos it sounds soooo painful.

Maz, Sammi etc, i can't find that Landscape wool dye by googling, i did try.

a couple of people asked about what to wash MCN with
- there are many things you can use, use what suits you and works for you

• soap nuts
• at the supermarket, Ecostore (liquid or powder) and Aware Sensitive by planet ark (powder). They are all marked whether for top or front or either type loaders.
• just use water
• some people use something called EUCA (??) that you get from hardware stores?
• use bicarb soda
• use normal washing detergents (this gave my DD rash really bad).

a few months back, after reading threads about this topic on BB, i went and did my own survey, standing in the supermarket (on childcare day obviously), reading all the backs of the packets, bottles. Some brands came close (amolin, earth's choice, etc, but all had ONE thing i was wanting to avoid, for mcn). the only ones that ticked ALL the boxes for me, was Ecostore and Aware Sensitive. Where i am, in a city of one million, they are easily available at IGA, coles and woollies.

i wish i could get Aware Sensitive in a bulk pack, i used to buy Omo Sensitive in the bulk packs to save money.

things to avoid, if you have a kid who rashes easily like i did, (and both dh and i itch heaps when using normal detergents)
perfume
optical brighteners
enzymes
fragrances
oh dear, there were more things, and now i have gone all blank. when this was all fresh in my mind, i could rattle them off no worries, now i am a bit blank - it's been too long obviously for me to remember all the crucial bits - sorry!

my search for "simple" detergent heated up, once i had gone thru really bad rash with bilby, before then, i wasn't too bothered. I think if you had a child with execma, you would certainly need to be extra careful.
