mel - are you sending your nappies to a dhobi-wallah (Indian "laundry" person) to beat the crap out of them on a rock in Petrie Creek? Coz that will kill the bamboo for sure!

kaz - that sucks. Have you shown DH the youtube vid of a cloth diaper-using mom's fantasy?? There's a link to it somewhere around here...

PMSL @ NaNa - not unless its something DH is doing behind my back !!! lol

Ali - we use Amolin here. No air fresheners near the nappies, they go on the line at night and stay behind the couch, then get put outside of a morning and brought inside when the sun goes down. I strip wash hardly ever but my nappies don't stink and they don't have absorbency problems, so I haven't had the need to. DH work clothes? In an office? umm... air conditioning? ROFL

Starrysky - we use monkey doodlez swim nappies here

Mel I know you wouldnt use fabric softener on nappies, but do you use it on anything? like clothes and towels? If you do it could be leaving a residue in the machine, or the cycle on your machine is too rough. I have just googled damage bamboo fabric and those are the only things I can think of unless you expose your nappies to pesticides (doubtful )

Nope haven't used fabric softener for years.

Dunno about my cycle being too rough though - never sat in there whilst its been washing to see if it beats the crap outta me or not.

I fooled my WM into thinking the lid was down and watched an entire cycle (Mesmerising!!) to see how rough it was, even on the spin, and it wasn't too bad. If you can figure out how too fool it then watch it one evening.

Mel - (Donning my scientist glasses) I reckon your kids just have real strong pee. Rinsing with water can't counteract alkali or acid, just dilute it, so I'd guess from a chemistry type point of view - if alkali/acid (can't remember which pee is) breaks down other matter (ie-why we use it in cleaning stuff) surely it can gradually break down the fibres in material ? ? The washing detergent would counteract but maybe you right about the 2 day thing. BTW - Do you use a little bit of detergent, as I know some only use plain water majority of time?
Has got me thinkin cause Ellyse has killer pee (I think the smell of a bucket of wee nappies festering in the bucket knocks me over more than #2's) I might just do a wash every day, as want these to at least last through 2 kids! Am a bit alarmed at your deteriorating problem.

Did anyone know about the baby powder? Whether I can use it without a liner?

Am a little concerned about the Iisfly ladybug nappy I ordered on Friday - it's not here yet, and the order confirmation said ETA 1 day. Reeealllly hope it comes tomorrow and hasn't gone astray.

doesn't take much - just find the little button and put some pressure on it...

isn't so easy to fool the newer ones - the aquasmart has a locking mechanism on it!

strip-wash - de-stinkifies nappies after toxic teething wees leave them stanking to high heaven even after regular washing and sunning. Use a tiny bit of dishwashing detergent and rinse, rinse, rinse, or the vinegar and bi-carb, depending on the fabrics.

mel - you know there's probably decades worth of cane-farming pesticides leaching into your water supply. There's a reason all those cane farmers are a bit nutty and there's no fish in the river. I should know, I grew up right in the middle of the cane field to the left of that motorway between Paciffo and Coolum! I always said there was something in the water there that made people ... um... y'know... special! Sorry, just throwing another whacko theory out there! LOL! I got no idea really why your kids nappies are disintegrating, but it's sad.
