have an overly clingy 18month oldso havent got a lot of time atm...he's been really agressive pyhsically ot me, slapping me, pinching me...grrrrrr. He totally outwet his WC last night...he was drenched at 5am and was screaming about it.

I must concur that these babies grow too fast. Leah is outgrowing some of her nappies and we are nearly ready to tackle TTing Em. Just need to make a sticker chart and get some stickers and I think she will do it in next to no time. Trying to catch up on the washing today, lacking motivation to do anything lately, hopefully the things that MCHN is getting organised help.
Mel - that bub is gonna be here before we know it!! It seems to be going really quick to me!!
BG - I was not using cloth by that stage with the older 2. I will probably MCN or prefold it, considering my flats are all Terry and far too big.

Thought you might like a giggle... DH changed Grace's nappy last night and grabbed the pocket nappy I had on the change table... Grace woke up cranky as an hour or so later and I couldn't work out why until I changed her nappy and realised there was nothing in the pocket!No wonder she was in such a bad mood! So a quick change, more food and she then slept for 3.5 hours - NICE!
Thanks for the info about the vaccs - we have them coming up and it is nice to know I can keep her in her MCN's. Also I have only ever washed with cold water. Is that an issue with MCN's? Should I use warm/hot water? Is it a hygene issue?

i think i might try and make sure all the flats are clean and dry for the few days after her jabs - though our washing machine does a fairly hot wash i think - and i'm pretty sure i can boost the temp for the nappy cycle for a few days....
have finally hit the point of crash and burn i think - the past couple of weeks have been full on making sure everything was done on time for the baptism - and now that it's over, DH is back at work, and it's just me and the girl - i'm exhausted!! she is missing daddy already (he only left at 4am!) - she's looking for him everywhere and got really excited hearing his voice on the phone earlier.
should get motivated to put all the nappy bits back together - but i'm too damn lazy today - first "day off" in ages! spent the past couple of days in clean up mode! all the washing and drying is up to date (DH did it all last night before he left) so today, we're just gonna chill and work out what happens when we don't have extra hands around again - they've been here for the past 12 days so it's all a learning curve again!

Brigsy, bilby adopts anything she sees and perceives as a "bubby". the other day, it was a Bubby Rock. She was talking to it, saying Awww alot and giving it cuddles, she even breastfed Bubby Rock. So if little Em takes a shine to candle holders, so be it, it just shows how much they want to communicate, even to inanimate objects!
with the hot water thingy, if your baby has gastro, washing the nappies at 90 degrees, for the time of the gastro attack, and for TWO WEEKS AFTER, is what i've read, as recommended. Because the gastro bug can survive for two weeks after your child is well again. apparently 90 degrees is hot enough to kill the gastro bug. Obviously, your regular mcn, with PUL and elastic, will NOT survive being washed in 90 degrees hot water. So, what i read, suggested that you use nappy flats, prefolds, trifolds, contours, all your nappy absorbent items that DON"T contain elastic or PUL. and for covers, they didn't enlarge on that, but following the theory about aeration and breathability of fabrics, i would guess
- PUL covers with leg gussets for tiny bubs (handwash teh covers for the duration of the gastro)
- woolly soakers (that need handwashing anyhoo)
i haven't been thru enough this with bilbs to know what i would do in reality (in her 27 months in MCN, she only had gastro for an afternoon), but i think if i went to do this and got leaks (due to runny gastro), i think i would probably revert to flongies - as they dry so fast (if it was in winter) and the PUL covers for summer (they dry fast too).
but with the rota virus vax and other needles, we didn't get any change in the nappy contents, just kept using the usual mcn, and our usual washing routine (which happened to be 60 degrees). If i washed in cold water, i think i would wash in hot water, just for the period of the needles.

I have to ask ... what is the big deal about gussests in covers for smaller bubs?

maz - the only covers that saved laa's NB poo were yours, and the pop in shells. BBH PUL covers let everything escape - its just the double security I guess!
MAz and CM - yes I would love another - but we want to try next year. But if we leave it, f the leg goes through, we cant have a homebirth. So it is playing in my mind. But that really sux, we shouldnt have to plan our family around our stupid f'n government.
ryatha - LOL!! sounds like something my DH would do. He is always putting on fitteds with no cover... argh.. but i cant complain, he tries

I still love my gusset covers because we always get leaks if I use any others - well I should say - we always get leaks if DH changes the nappy and uses a nappy cover that doesn't have gussets
But they fit the kids so well when they had chicken legs - much better than any other.

Maz - leg gussets fill some of the gap between your covers and the inferior variety. I still dont get quite as good leg seal from anything but yours, but we dont get pooplosions with them either.

Maz - I hear ya! I'm so fed up with the aggro little monster screaming and headbutting me all day long... and hanging off me with a stinky, sopping nappy. So we're starting the elimination diet next week. No more salicylates. He's too hyper.
No nappy news, other than washing them in tank water is making them nice and soft, but drying them in front of the fire makes velour crunchy!
I'm not in any situation to be considering having more kids right now (hello? GFC anyone?? it's hitting us hard) but two of the mums in our playgroup are due in the next few months, so I'm flashing DS's fluffy cuteness at them every chance I get in order to make a convert out of at least one of them. And I've successfully convinced my SIL, who's due in September, to go cloth at least after the first few weeks. She's got a BBH starter pack already, and I just spent half an hour on the phone to my BIL with him asking which ones he should buy. So talking them into going cloth AND getting HIM to do the purchasing... I'm proud of that! LOL! Must get a MAL cover for them - a chance to buy girly things! Wow.

Hi all - the gravity of the situation (ie that in 8 or so weeks time I will have a bub in cloth) is starting to hit home!! I really really have to rescue nappies from MiLs house so I can strip wash if needed and then finish the pre-washing for those ones, um I have to pre-wash the nappies that were saved from going to MiLs house... feels like there is so much to be done!
I hope that when I am sitting in the laundry crying because I have NFI what I am doing that I rememebr all the wonderful advice you ladies have given me during pg!
