    Hey Shelley

Yup. Lurking. Busy. I try and post, but always get distracted. At the moment I'm waiting for DH to get off the phone so he can help me carry down boxes downstairs so I can sort out stuff for the garage sale.

oh but FWIW - I quite like my rumparooz that i have here. But I'm a gussets fan too.

Thats about all I have time for - boxes to move, crap to sort

Shelly went out on a limb and lent me 10 MCN's for the last week and a half to trial them and I am so sold!!!!

Without people like Shelly so many of us wouldn't have switched to MCN's and I just want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for being so kind and trusting!!!

Arimeh - good luck with the garage sale! Is clothibumz having a garage sale too?? Where you moving to in Taswegia??

MLM - thanks hun. Getting my photo in the paper. That's exciting, isn't it? Too bad it was so cold today or I would've had DS's fluffy bot showing off!

    Welcome Ella!

teagz - anything with a gusset! Personally, I used Thirsties x-small and small size PUL when DS was a NB, but with flanno flats. And Bummis super brites. They were the cheaper options, but worked really well for the amount of time I needed them. Otherwise maz-a-licious, and motherease Rikkis get pretty good reviews around here too. I found the Tots Bots to be huge, but the new ones don't have gussets apparently... I sent ours to LimeSlice. I guess they work for some. I haven't looked at PUL covers for a while now, there could well be some other new, better things around.

Is it just me, or does anyone else shudder just a little bit when you hear the word "pilchers"?? No offence, teagz, it just makes me feel a bit weird!

I'm catching up with a pg friend who's down from north Qld tomorrow. Hoping I can make another convert. Not like there's a shortage of cloth-users in Townsville, is there? Plenty of folks to help out if I succeed!

Thanks - we're moving to Launceston. Can't answer your other question, will have to PM me or message me on facebook

Teagz - Motherease Rikki all the way for me mate. Bout all I have left in my collection of PUL covers and the only ones I trust not to leak. The others just don't sit tight around my kids legs and we get leaks, and because they have super skinny waists (unlike me!) so it never actually sits tight enough on them. The baby beehinds ones irritated their skin too.

Ella - shelley is awesome. we love her.

    *another annoying newby question*

What covers/pilchers do you girls use for those using prefolds?

Ella, it little things like that that makes me love this place
    hi Teagz,

prefolds can go in any sort of cover, but leg gusset covers are SPECIFICALLY designed to hold prefolds really well.

i put prefolds into other covers (when the leg gusset ones were all in the wash)
i put fitteds under the leg gusset covers.
really, whatever fits nicely will get you thru, i just found the leg gusset ones were my first pref, when everything was dry.

nappy + cover = two lines of defense
IMO, nappy + leg gusset cover = even more protection from leaks.

i have a bias - my nb pooed VERY OFTEN and VERY FORCEFULLY, so without the leg gusset covers, i would have been scrubbing sofas, scrubbing carpet, washing carseats daily, changing her clothes EVERY nappy change, changing my OWN clothes very frequently too. (How do i know this? cos i had one week of NOT having the right covers, THEN i got the right covers and NO MORE LEAKS!!!).

i was doing 20 changes per day at nb stage (she woke every two hours for a feed, needed changing before and after her feeds). So it was freq pooping and very explosive. So as far as i can tell, it's a lottery, what kind of pooper you have! you might have a bub who poops once every week! and therefore, not need the amount of covers we did.

here are some brands of covers with leg gussets:

    bambino mio
    imse vimse
    bummibrites
    thirsties
    motherease rikki

there are a few more, but i can't remember right now.

    Happy Birthday Cheeky Monkey!

welcome Ella, that was lovely of SHelley to do that for you. bless her cotton socks

Yes bless her cotton socks indeed.

I even put up a post the other day asking if anyone wanted to get rid of there old MCN's as we have had a total major catastrophe with our car and all my money for MCN's got taken (sobs) and there have been women answer straight away.

I just keep getting suprised at how very lovely the people here are, I don't mean to carry on, but when you have had no friends and a baby for nine months and been stuck inside all the time it makes you truly appreciate the kindness people show here.

Thank you BB for helping me find lovely girlfriends and baby friends, and thank you anyone who has taken the time to read or reply to anything I've written, makes me feel very loved!

It is nice when bb girls help out even if it is just replying to a post when things are down.

Well dh has come to terms with the cloth nappies now, I went out for dinner with dd#2, as dd#1 is at camp and dd#1 wanted some mum time, well bub filled her nappy for dad, he dealt with that rinsed it to and put her night nappy on, her bottom was red and he even put a liner in as he but sudocream on it (yet to get other cream), so proud of him.

We have not used a sposie in over 2 weeks yeah.

No offence taken! I only said it to make sure you guys knew what I was talking about. The only covers I have seen are plastic PVC ones that were called "pilchers" and well... I don't really like the idea of wrapping my baby up in drain pipe.

Thanks for all the advice girls!! I'll go do some sticky beaking now and leave you all in peace hehe

teagz- there are several online fabric stores which sell mcn materials. if you're keen on making your own, there's co-op groups which you can be part of. Co-op is simply discount prices for group buys. for covers i like the imse vimse organic. DS still fits in the Small.

I'm having one of those days where I'm constantly changing nappies. Monsta is on yet another course of antibiotics and it's making him poo like there's no tomorrow...Instead of soft formed ones, its back to watery ones *sigh* It's pretty much every hour and if I dont change him straight away he'll be screaming. Even if i change him straigh away his bum is still going red...Arrgh poor baby...

    to everyone

    Question.
Would a BBH wool and PUL cover, a MAZ, a Rikki and a Pookey Pockets covers all in small, fit over a flat nappy?

probably, if said flat nappy is flannelette or similar, or depending on the fold it might even go over a terry flat.
I have made another convert today! Weeeeeeeee.....

    ROLF, Thanks Shelly

    TeruTeru, I actually stumbled across one of those sites today and went "oooh *insert noise of brain cogs mulling over more possiblities here*" And then promptly left. I can't sew to save my life, and I don't think my brain can take in much more info today ><;
