utterly ****ed right now. had clear blue skies, hang my nappies out. I am down to last emergency few because I had a migraine yesterday and last thing on my mind was housework. I look outside and it's gonna pour rain. nasty black clouds in the sky.

My Dishwasher shat itself yesterday too so I have a whole dishwasher full of dirty dishes to wash and last night's on top.

Still awaiting my Abby gro's eagerly.

AH my dishwasher did the same thing a week ago! I can't believe I have been reduced to washing dishes again LOL. Seriously though it's a PITA.

..... just goes to show why you need more nappies than you think!!

Tell me about it. It's been 35+ and 0% humidity for weeks during the day with the odd arvo storm. Been easy to dry nappies in 2 hours tops. Slowly getting more nappies stocked but nappy outlay + trying to fill a house with furniture + mortgage is sucking.

if u had a NB that doesnt poo at night did u use night nappies or boosted fitteds so u didnt have to change them at every feed? just wondering if i could get a away with less prefolds if i have a solution for nights but i suppose it will depend on the baby

then only one word - Booroi!!!!!
    Really?

Been learning to use prefolds - so far one in four leak into the cover. (But never out of Maz's awesome covers!) So I have to ask, is there a trick to getting them on a wriggly newborn?
I found that i would fold the front panel around the tummyand then bring the outter back sides around, then slip the snappy from one hip, then the other, then do the crutch snap. hope that makes snece..wish I could show you

    J HUGE congrats honey babe

    ANYWAYS>>>>>>>>>>
long time no chatty girls we're still in cloth here..marching on and I doubt we'll be out of them anytime soon (thank goodness)

We have built the stash up on CK's and GF's..a few randoms in but its mainly that now.

Im getting a nice custom GF made this week from NIkki..I cant WAIT to get it.

Bimboo hon..I am terribly sorry for what happened. I hopoe you taking time to heal hon

Now must me off...have a load to hang

    FLUFFY MAIL YESTERDAY!

My Abby Gro nappies arrived! Was only 4 working days which is quite exciting considering it usually takes 6-7 standard. Postie was quite amused with my little happy dance! I have no composure whatsoever when I get excited. Ordered 2 Care Bear print Abby Gro nappies today. Have such a soft spot for the cartoons I watched as a child. She's offering free express today on all remaining nappies so if you want to save postage then go for it.

So, are prefolds really the only way to go with a newborn?? I've got some little terry fitted's that fitted DD really well with Maz's small covers when I started her at 4 months (she was only abou5 5kgs even then) and they do say they fit a newborn - with the newborn size covers do you's think I can get away with it - am I right the boorai prefolds cost about $10 each still!!

bimboo honey, i am so sorry for the loss of your little angel, and so happy to hear of the birth of your surviving baby. I don't have the right words, but i am thinking of you. i hope time brings healing for you sweetheart. and that you get the chance to grieve, and not have to bottle up your feelings. Your feelings ARE valid.

no - prefolds are not the only way to go with a nb

    there are many options
flats with small covers (PUL, fleece or wool)
    contours with nb covers
    trifolds with nb covers
    prefolds with nb covers
    fitted OSFA
    fitteds sized
fitteds with the navel cut low to allow for the cord stump
then you have the closure options of snappi, front snaps, side snaps or velcro (aplix)

    pockets
    all in twos
    all in ones

so no, prefolds are not the only newborn option at all
in my opinion, they are the most economical and expedient option.
they are certainly not the most glam option
i do think they are easier than flats
if you have a nb who does FREQ watery explosive poos, then two lines of defense is a godsend. (nappy and cover).
if you ahve a bub whose bowel movements are pretty rare, two lines of defense is not so crucial.
many people think bamboo is wasted on nbs, but considering nbs wee every 20 mins cos their bladder is the size of a marble, i was very glad of having bamboo on my nb. the trade off is the drying time. the big bonus is being able to keep using them as the child grows, but instead of being the nappy, they become the booster, part of the absorbency system of the other nappies. we used our nb bamboo foldups right up to when bilby tt-d. so i'd say that was good value (at the time, i baulked at teh $7 per bamboo foldup).

i just looked on BOOROI, adn yes, right now, the bamboo prefolds are around $10 each. The nappy hunt is about to start. Just by REGISTERING for the hunt, you will get a discount code, you can use at many sites, including Booroi if they're participating in the Hunt, high chance of that, worth doing, even if you don't do the actual hunt).

cheaper options for RIGHT NOW, if you are in a hurry -

    • bits for bots have black bamboo trifolds for $7.20
    • baby beehinds had heavily reduced bamboo foldups for $4 (this is what i used on my nb, inside a nb sized cover)

both of these would do the job too.

if you are not in a hurry, there will be many websites that sell nappies, having "specials" during the March Nappy Hunt (on prefolds and every other kind of newborn nappy option you can think of), go to Diaper Decisions website and register for the Hunt, it starts March 1st. You will have a discount code emailed to you (just for registering).
