so i'm on the Mandy Mac website... i think they'd be a good little nappy for NB's with the snappis myself. You could adjust to just the right fit.. or am I being optimistic? I'm still tossing up as to whether to get prefolds or not... i don't like the pin idea!
Kuraiza, could you try using different inserts with the GK's? I've never bought actual GK inserts I don't think.
CL - you totally need to master snappis, they're the bomb! If you have a piece of old carpet, or aren't precious about yours (or are in a rental like we were when we started, lol), you can pre stretch them on the carpet, which makes them a bit easier/looser to use. I don't trust myself with pins, I don't recall if I've ever jabbed a bub, but I've definitely got myself! Tis why I'm a bit of a prefold gal...
The prefolds I have aren't snappi-able. hmmm, do we have carpet? OOO, yes, a rug in the spare room and that's it. I'm going to practice pins and if it's an epic fail I will just use the covers to keep the nappies on. They'll be a snug fit around flats and prefolds. I'm going to use the fold with the extra padding around the front for bubs (only one I can remember ) so I'll have a few layers of nappy to avoid sticking bubs
We just woke up from a nap and I feel so horrid. I have the worst reflux/heartburn in history. Going to take it easy this arvo. I was going to do an abby gro/bbh inserts deep soak but I'll get through the pile of washing I discovered in DD's room yesterday and the sheets first.
WOCB: nothing, airing it after her nap where she wore a nappy.
CL - slippery elm in apple juice for the heartburn. Works better than anything I found. I will ship it if you need me to, I feel your pain!
Snappis are ace, they are way better than pins. If I ship to you (which I will, because your training pants will be finished tonight, I will chuck in two pre-stretched snappis.
I hate pins. Hate them big time. If you do use them, buy good ones. Cheapies suck.
kuraiza - I use prefolds in my GKs. I bought them without inserts, with the intention of making my own, but my homemade prefolds were just a perfect fit, so I never did.
Our rental carpet copped some big nuggets during nappy free time a wee while ago (Get it? WEE while? )
WONB: Bamboozle and a maz cover.
ETA: NO Bex! I really can't buy any more! You're terrible!
Is slippery elm from the health food shop? If it wasn't the heartburn or baby fighting with my belly button waking me up, it was DP saying i was snoring. Seriously, I've put up with his snoring for 9 years, he can deal with mine for 2 months! It doesn't matter how I lay too.
I was going to get the decent quality pins for sure because the el cheapo ones are blunter. I'm more likely to have issues getting them through the material if they're blunt. I'm just hoping they aren't nickel or have high concentrates of nickel in the metal composition. I'll have to stop using them if they are.
ETA: Strip washing is where you do a hot wash with a few drops dishwashing liquid on nappy inserts. It gets rid of all the residual creams/washing products/smelly residue. You just keep rinsing until there are no more bubbles
Got the cutest baby legs to go with my new wool cover today. So bub is decked out in pink babylegs, burgundy wool cover over minky 'clothed up' with trifold and a little white cardi - ADORABLE!!!
With regard to colth and clothing in winter, what do you find fits best over cloth? Do you just go up a size? my mum and i have a sewing business so she has made me some pants but just curious to see what others do? Wool leg warmers, anyone know where to get some?
I'm keen to make some more boosters, tell me the best place to source fabric for nappy making please
