I don't know what I want! I have about 24 NB napps, plus terry flats and about a dozen OSFM. DD is well and truly covered with her stash, even if I take out the OSFMs and dedicate them to the newbie. So I think maybe I'll be OK. I have a few out on loan, trying to call those back in as soon as I can - haven't announced yet, and they are all over the country. But I guess I have a while.

I have a friend up here with a massive stash to clear, I swam in it today, and I won't have to pay postage if I get any of hers. So if I decide to get more, that's where I'll be buying.

You are covered! Maybe some new pre folds, since DD is using them for her dolls? ;)

Yeah, I make my own prefolds, we didn't use them for long on DD though, she outgrew them! I had no idea she'd be so big.

I'm covered, BUT it does get rainy up here, and I like to be able to have enough nappies for a full week without washing. (I wash, but they take so long to dry)

In other news, I have had DD in microfleece inner NNs for the last 4 nights and her rash is *so* much better. I was using liners in her other ones, but they're obviously not as good. So I think all my micro inner naps will come to the fore this week.

Thanks for the tip on MooGoo. DD2 has been a little red and pawpaw helped but didn't clear it entirely. MooGoo seems to have done the trick! No staining either.

Loving our new TotsBots and BBHs still. I really need to get more Med covers. Must check out what's on sale. ;)

WOHB: BBH night nappy with MotherEase cover

Anybody tried knitting their own wool nappy covers? Any pattern tips for free (or cheap) online patterns?

I'm not bad at knitting and they mostly look simple. Just after something already tried and tested.

Yes, I've made one. Never used it as DD's thighs were too enormous for the leg holes I'd made. She takes after her mumma like that. Might have used the tiny birds pattern? Not sure. A friend who's a gun knitter has a good one; I'll ask for you.

I still have no idea about what I'll need for the new baby. I did do a quick stocktake though, put some new Larges into circulation, a Bubblebubs AIO (which was immediately taken out of circulation and into the cubbyhouse by DD) and some BBH petites. I used to hate those things, but on her now they're actually not bad. Just no good for her as a newborn. So I have 36 AIOs in current use, 6 fitteds, 4 NNs and 12 terry flats (I only bought 8, no idea where the other 4 came from) which is perfect for us right now. I'm covered for the newborn stage, but my question is what will I need beyond then? I guess I'll just find out when the time comes and buy accordingly.

WONB: Black BBH petite. Probably. She's out with her dad, so I don't really know :lol: But that's what she left in.

Well I'm giving an online pattern a go in a pretty green. Will give you feedback when it's done. But I'd love new patterns if they're out there! I'm making it in a medium and not using small needles, so hopefully the thighs will fit for her!

Oh that's weird.

I made some longies when pregnant with DD. They are perfect.... if you have a baby with large tumours on each of her inner thighs, ideally bigger on the left than the right. :rofl: So don't take advice from me.

DH is taking part in some lively FB cloth v sposie discussions. Some of the reasoning against cloth is really really lame.

I am being mildly entertained by how fascinated my MIL is with DS's nappies. Mind you, I did have him in his particularly cute uberbumz pretties yesterday. And it was DH's suggestion to put a pair of huggalugs on him rather than pants so his nappies were on show :)

I wish I could just put DD in huggalugs to show off her nappies but she does insist on taking them off and playing with her girlie bits :lol:

I can't knit (and don't have time) so I'm sure your longies are better than anything I could do, Audax.

WOEB: A sposie. With the bad weather & her growing too fast, I only have 4 days worth of nappies instead of the 6 I used to have. Since today is day 5, sposies it is. She is at daycare today & I miss her :cry:

Something has happened to a heap of DDs nappies and they are leaking or elastic not working or something (still investigaing) on the positive (ish), i will get to buy some more for DS as he grows and i know a few more brands that i can watch out for.

HotI: Have you tried putting the nappies in the dryer on a low heat? I had leaky BBH magicalls (almost brand new!) when DS was little & that was the advice given to me. It took two goes in the dryer but it did work. Something about pul - when it heats up slightly it'll melt just enough to join up any cracks. It worked for me. Those same nappies are pretty much dead now after two kids but I haven't had any more problems with the pul. Now it's the elastic lol!

Nappy mail! I have sold some of DS's boy nappies & bought some pretty girl nappies for DD :) 3 Large Itti Bitti AIO's in baby pink, bubblegum & pink with dark pink & purple spots :) They were second hand but they look like they haven't even been used :) So soft & fluffy :) Can you tell I'm happy lol!

I've used Bumboo bamboo prefolds. Worked great with BBH covers.

I have BBH bamboo prefolds that I used on DD2 when she was tiny with a cover. They make great boosters now, particularly at night time.

Joining in since I am going to be using MCN's for this bubs. I used sposies for DD but have decided to go MCN's on the advice from my BB thread (thanks Audax & co!) I bought 6 2nd hand itti bitti d'lish AIO from a BB member and my gf has sold me all her brand new itti bitti tuttos SIOs. All up I have 22 MCN's with extra insert things (I'll pick up the lingo soon enough!) Should I get more MCN's or should I see how I go? (I was told to get about 40 MCN's) Bubs is due November and we live in Melbourne so I think I'll be fine for drying them, just not sure in winter how I am going to go and whether or not I should try another brand or wait?

Oh and what brand squirty thing do you use? Or should I just use an old knife for poos?

I'd wait and see how you go, maybe flesh out your stash with some pretties once bub is here. You may also find another brand you like better.

Personally I just use an old knife on the window sill of the loo, plus flushable liners are ace :) At newborn runny poo stage you don't really need to worry much, just a quick rinse of the worst in the laundry sink before sticking them in the wash as the poo is water soluble if bf-ing. It's when you start solids that getting poo out of nappies gets interesting....

RCC - I'd bulk out with a couple of different brands. Ittis were a dismal fit here, so we ditched them early. I really rate Bubblebubs Candies as a OSFM snap in nappy, see if you can snaffle some of those somewhere.

I'm still head in the sand about my stash for two. Going to clothbum playgroup this week, so I'll ask around then.

Yeah, i don't scrape my breastmilk only poos nappies at all. I just use a poo knife for my toddler's nappies.

are the nappies you have sized? how many of each size do you have?

DS is in small itti bittis now at 4 months but will probably go to medium in the next month or two. My DD was wearing medium itti bittis til 2 years of age. I only have one tutto and don't really like it - but i prefer sized nappies rather than osfm.

i reckon try a few brands and then you cna get more of the ones you like. starting now is great cos you can watch out for 2nd hand ones.

I hated greenkids when DD was younger, but i love them on her now.

I love my nappy sprayer and picked it up online for about $40. DP installed it on the toilet. I got mine from Cheeky Butts. There is nothing flushable in DD2's nappies yet and she's a prolific pooer! I don't use liners yet as they can't contain such runny poos properly.

WOHB: widdlewuns night nappy

RhiChiChi, I have the little squirt nappy sprayer. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. I simply would not have continued with MCN's if I didn't have it. DH would have flat out refused to scrape & I would have dreaded every nappy change. My kids have both been at least 2-3 times a day for the first 12 months or so. I love itti's on my DD but didn't really like them on DS. DS had skinny legs & a pot belly & I just couldn't seem to get a good seal. Velcro worked much better for him. I have used BBH magicalls for both my bubs & loved them. I have found magicalls much more absorbant than IB's but IB's are a trimmer fit. I have only used the sized versions of both. I love green kids too but not when they were little. They were just too bulky until about 6 months or so. The pockets are great for being able to change the absorbancy to meet the need. DD needs more absorbancy first nappy of the day but less for the rest of the day, so I can pad it out a bit first up but have nice trim nappies for the rest of the day.

WOEB: Giraffe GK Minkytimes

I've tried heaps of different brands and I've now settled with a stash of my favourites, with a few extra stand-bys just in case.

What I like: BBHs fitted nappies, with covers. I like bamboo and hemp. These were too bulky until she was at least three months though. Sized BBH AIOs are quite good, but preferred the Swaddlebees. I don't mind the BBH MagicAlls, but they come after my TotsBots in terms of preference, as they don't fit quite as snuggly. TotsBots OSFM because they're the easiest to use, they're just like a disposable (only prettier!). They would have been fine from NB if my NB had have been a little bigger. I think the BBHs are more absorbent, but neither have ever leaked on me. Swaddlebees, even though I have only had one, is probably my favourite. I just don't need any more nappies, so I won't buy them. But they seemed to go the longest in terms of fitting for a sized nappy and they were fantastically absorbent. Took longer to dry. Lots like TB to use. I liked the Cheeky Butts minis the best for NB, Lil Joeys next best. My back ups are BumGenius and Cheeky Butts and both are good, just not my favourites.

What I don't like: GroVia NB nappy, leaked the only two times I used it and I didn't bother again. The rest I've tried that I haven't listed were all doable, just not my best.

I started with a skinny baby with stick legs and I now have a chubby bub with great thighs! Who knows what she'll be like in a few months or when she starts moving though.

WOHB: TotsBots AIO with a booster, if her nanny hasn't changed her it'll be the cute apple one. Could be the flower one if she has. ;)

Thanks all for your suggestions. I am planning on bf so that should make the nappies more manageable to clean - I am a little freaked out it is going to be too hard b/c sposies were easy but I know the benefits of MCN's and the likes.

My stash so far is: 6 IB's d'lish small size AIO and 16 IB tutto's SIO. My gf also purchased extra insert thingys and I'll look at flushable inserts and a squirter thing or equivalent then - that seems to not be needed straight up. In hosptial (going to hospital for birth) though they supply sposies, so I'll just use them then convert at home. DH seems interested in using them, which is great. I'll have to check out how to use the IB tuttos though b/c they have alot of press studs whereas the d'lish only press stud accross. There was one other snappy nappy in there but it looks huge for a nb, more a toddler I think. I'll keep my eye out for other brands 2nd hand then to try and see what I like best. Thanks again

We used sposies for a couple of days until the meconium was over.

But if you want a squirter get it installed before birth. You will use it as soon as you're home.

Why do you use a squirter on newborn nappies? Is it cos you don't like poo in your washing machine or cos you are worried about stains or something else?

Means no stains, plus in our case DD2 has always been quite productive in that dept! They def need a rinse first.

DP felt better about no poo in the washing machine too.

I don't like poo in the washing machine. I prefer to get as much off as possible prior to washing.
