I say just put the others aside - wait for the dust to settle - and then re-evaluate.

PP sorry to hear about the stress that MCN's cause! Is it only MCN's that cause tension? I only ask because sometimes my husband is just generally annoyed, and he picks something to take his frustration out on, when it really isn't the cause of his frustration. e.g. how much time our fish tanks take. It's not really the tanks he is annoyed by, but just his general lack of spare time in general. I hope you don't sell the MCN's only to find that he is really frustrated about something else.

Going half disposie half MCN sounds like a nice compromise, and something we are thinking of doing as well.

I think it can. I think DH laughs at me when I talk about the nappies, but I think it is a little different because it was actually him that was adament about me using cloth in the first place. Environmental nut. lol

I think though that is a pretty bit of fluff worth the problems with your hubby?? And whilst it (obviously) not going to be the whole and most important problem in your relationship atm, the gesture of getting rid of them for his sake may just be the whole and most important sacrifice you make for the sake of your relationship. It may just make him aware that you are serious about things and allow you both to actually address the main issue without it being masked. iykwim.
Im sorry you and hubby arent getting on hunny and I hope you dont have to give up on MCN forever completely!!

PP we use them part time here too, and my newborn will be in sposies for most of the time til s/he's a couple of months old, I can just forsee that now! Like Kim, we use sposies for overnight, daycare and when we are out all day. (Half-day trips I still use cloth, but hate the bulk of having to take a full day's worth of cloth, so often I will put her in a sposie if I know I'll need several changes for her).
I do find MCNs take up more of my time, plus when DH uses them he doesn't clean the pooey ones, so that job ALWAYS falls to me. (Though most of the nappy changes fall to me anyway, except for when he looks after her on weds while I'm at work).
I too would recommend part time use if you don't want to give them up completely - using them even just part time would still save you money and produce less waste than giving them up altogether.

I don't think they complicate my life, in fact I think they have made things easier. DS no longer has a sore red bum, and I don't have to continually shop for disposables. I don't find the washing a big deal because I already do so much what's one extra load. However I know I spend way to much time on the net looking at them, but I'm resolving to stop this

    In a word - YES!!

The thrill has definitely gone for me over the last few months....I was actually going to do a post about it myself.

For me, it's the STINK. I can't handle the STINK!!!

I've stripwashed, tried varying levels and types of detergent, no detergent at all, different temp cycles, different types of cycles, washing more often etc etc etc. Nothing seems to work long term.

At the moment we've been using sposies a lot because of nappy rash (well, that's my excuse) and overnight because I find DS sleeps better in sposies. We had an incident a few weeks ago where he woke constantly overnight (something he hasn't done for months and months) I went in two or three times to check on him and it wasn't until the morning that I realised he'd done a huge poo but I couldn't smell it over the STINK of the soaked nappy. You can imagine how bad I felt

If it weren't for the guilt about the financial and environmental implications, I'd be back to sposies in a heartbeat.

    Sad but true...

Yep - i tried them for a week. Spent $200 initially on setting up, was very eager to rid of the sposies and save some $$$$.....i found i was spending more time on 'caring' for the cloth nappies than what i would have liked. Too much work for me, far better things to do with my time....it was a nice thought whilst it lasted though, but its just not for me.

Oh my god - do cloth nappies complicate my life....

They used to. In fact I think DH and I were heading down a very sad road but I was heavily into cloth with the store and advocacy and everything else. The nappies themselves nope but I have A LOT! I also used disposables at night a lot of the time so they are there if I'm feeling lazy. I also use the dryer if I'm feeling lazy or it's too darn hot to be hanging out lots of washing.

As for not using them, as others have said, give yourself a break and see how you go - I personally can't do it, the guilt over using them and everything I've learnt about disposables - I just can't use them full-time. Not to mention DD skin starts to react after a day or 2 in full time sposies.

BTW - my Dh has nothing to do with nappies - he will change one if I ask and bring him nappies, wipes and baby but I then have to pick up everything and clean it :-)

OK I just finished reading the rest of the thread! I completely understand the compromise sometimes we have to do these things and in a way I understnd where Gigi is coming from but in an effort not to sound like my grandma I have often given up my things for the sake of my marriage and it has been all the better for it. I think the point is are you giving them up and happy about it too - somewhere just a little - cause if not it's going to become a grudge point between you for a long time.

NAK so could be a ramble...

I think sometimes it seems to complicate things.

When I'm not in a good place healthwise or mentally, there is more falling apart around me than just having to fold nappies kwim. But it's easy to say "if I didn't have to fold these nappies then I'd be able to do the dishes/iron/clean the bathroom" etc.

Today I've washed, pegged & folded 1 load of towels, 1 load of boys clothes, 1 load of DH & mine, Ruby's bedding & folded nappies washed yesterday.

Yesterday I only did a load of nappies because I couldn't be bothered doing anything else. I don't blame having to do washing all day today on nappies, rather my slack mood yesterday. The work I have from nappies is stuff all compared with everything else I need to do to keep my house going.

Maybe the nappies are a "whipping boy" because it's a chore that you choose to have because there is another option. Perhaps you need a break. I've had a few (been clothing it full time for over 2 years now) but after a few days and they are nicely folded and stored I tend to think it's not so bad afterall.

I can tell you that I don't miss that dreaded feeling of realizing there is only one nappy in the packet and having to go out at 9pm to buy some

Just don't do anything rash like sell off everything till you're totally sure!

I go through phases of liking them...and then hating them. Sposies are so much easier and i dont have to do a thing with them.

I hate the washing and folding bit of cloth. But on the upside they save me alot of money and with soon to be 3 in cloth....every penny saved is not hurting my bank balance as much.

I dont use them at night anymore....i hate the smell and wet feeling when my girls wake up....and i dont like how bulky they are under thieir little butts to sleep on.

I use sposies for: Night, FDC, shops, going out. Cloth is at home only.
