Angry night nappies ?! are they a joke ?!!!

i am so dissapointed in my attempts to get ds in to night nappies ,

i had a bamboo fitted with 2 boosters and a thick microfibre hidden at the bottom , with a pair of longies on ... and a fleece liner to keep him dry

ds woke up soaking wet and i thought they only peed when they woke , if he only woke once , then his bladder must be bigger than mine coz it was every where,

would pul be better ?? ?
what works ?? do i need to go for a bubble bubs GNST??? are they worth the $40 each...

    or a fleece night nappy ?? ?

    or 2 nappies ???

i just dont get it , all my attempts have had me deflated, im trying to convince dh that we dont need sposies any more and i fail each time >>>

really really bummed , i have pockets during the day and use them for his day sleep, but night time im not sure , ive heard that it wicks and doenst breathe like wool,
so confused ... im beginning to think they are a joke

My DS is a heavy wetter - despite going to bed at 7.30-8pm and being changed at 11pm each night and waking at 6am AND wearing Huggies he is saturated in the morning. We are new to clothies during the day and tried various cloths at night, but none of them cut it. In fact he has "slept thru" wearing a cloth at night but because it was so saturated he ended up with a nappy rash that extended up to his tummy. I have just resigned myself to the fact that he will wear sposies at night....but any suggestions also welcome

I use either a Sandman which is never wet on the outer, let alone the cover, a Keester Kover AIO which is NEVER wet (windpro outer) or a VBSN like Shannon which is never wet on the outer or the cover either. BBH are always satched so we dont' use them at night anymore. A well boostered windpro or windbloc Honeyboy also goes well at night for us. I don't use microfleece in my nappies anymore - compression wicking is too common (and I don't like it as it's not a natural fabric but that's another story for another time!).

You should check out Buyforbaby as they often have night nappies up.

I use sandmans - Bamboo ones are better - my girl is a drencher... in my hemp sandmans with a cover I don't have any leaks but I have to boost them with a bamboo booster plus a bamboo trifold for it to work... the bamboo sandmans are much more absorbent.

Isla wears a Bamboo Sandman all night long & its dry tot he touch on the outside in the mornings. I also have 2 hemp ones but will be getting rid of those once I have another Bamboo night nappy as the bamboo is just soooo much better.
I also had a WildChild & that was always dry in the mornings but found the fit wasn't quite right for Isla. But I have heard of some new developments with the Wildchild Night Nappies so I would be keeping my eyes posted on their website .

One thing no one has mentioned, are your longies lanolised?

yeah the longies are lanolised , but i bought them new from a baby expo a few weeks a go and they have only been worn once, the other night. so i dont know where that leaves me

so i will do some reasearch on the nappies ppl have reccomended ..

choc:: if you dont use fleece ( which i understand, its getting too hot anyways for it , and yes it leaks .. ) what do you use for liners ??

what does every one else use for liners ??

I used peapods at night with one insert and two night boosters and they would never leak at night but mine are heavy wetters at night as well. I used them on all my 3 for night time.

can you wait to put him to bed until after he pees?

apparentlky the motherease sandys nappies are great for heavy wettesr. I"ve never tried them though. for covers, you can't go past a zappy nappy pul cover. they aren't very common - get them from nature's child - but the shape of them and the elastic is much less likely to wick.

keep an eye on his wetting patterns, he may have just wet just before you get up to him, in which case at least he hasn't been sitting in it all night.

Just trying to clarify if you have used a fleece cover? As the fleece breathes it can feel damp to the touch on the outside as it lets the water evaporate.
The fleece for covers is different to the fleece for liners.

I'd try re-lanolising he longies and give them another go too. use them during the day to test their effectiveness before trying them at night again.

i do have a sandys nappy, but its way to big on him right now and the liners i use tend to bunch up ..

i find the fleece compression leaks when he lies on his tummy , which is most of the time, he wears a fleece aio to nap sometimes , and usually sleeps on his tummy and there is a wet patch on the bed ....

but i use fleece liners..also i dont have any fleece covers...

so pul is ok to use at night ???? ive only got bbh covers , thought it wouldnt breathe enough..

maybe i'll try pea pods, i have quite a few.... they have never leaked (except the red ones... which i have found others would agree)

the thing im most worried about is the top of the nappy gets soaking ... he is a tummy sleeper and i dont want him getting irratated skin... kwim

i am totally new to the night time nappy thing...

You know... all your issues with cloth nappies is making me wonder if I want to get some for myself, other than the squares you lent me... Coz Jensens a champion pee-er.

Sounds like you need to boost your nappies more at the front then.

Lea, have you tried putting a booster between the nappy and the cover (or longies), at the front of the nappy (where little boys pee)? Apparently that is very good - it is what I'll be trying for Jack as soon as the boosters arrive. Also, are the nappies you are using new? I can't believe the difference in absorbency I'm getting from BBB between 3 washes and 10. Jack was wetting through them quickly, now he can go a few hours in one most of the time. And the only difference is they have been washed more times.

FJ I was thinking the same!
Caleb is a tummy sleeper and has been since 4 months. I ended up putting in two long boosters into a BBB and folded them so there was more fabric at the front and I also upsized covers so there was extra coverage at the front. I'm talking super high on his waist rather that just covering the nappy. The cover I got was a Stacinator Malden Mills cover. It was enormous but I'm still using it now!

I have had endless dilemas with my boys waking up saturated in the morning. The only thing I found that works 100% of the time is to put a Poise incontinence pad in their nappies just before bed and this soaks up most of the urine. I get the Super Plus ones and have never had a problem. Its about $7 for 12 pads and its definitely worth the money for a comfy nights sleep for the boys.
