i cant answer all your questions, but i can help with some. The insert for the bbh magicall is to use the magicall. Its what makes it absorbant.
Id just use plain washing powder, dont use a softener, it can "clog" the nappy and make it less absorbant.
    Hope that helps!

Ok cool thanks so even though the magicall is already quite thick because of hte built in one I use the little bamboo one too!? Funny how they are all so different and some seem so much thicker than others!

Tan, the magicall can be used as is. The extra insert is if you need extra padding. I don't really use it atm, but I will put it in if we're going out for a long trip and I need it to last longer.

With the BG, the smaller insert is for newborn size or for extra absorbing if need. On the larger insert, I put the fold to the back because that is where she always seems wettest.

Normal powder is fine as long as it doesn't have the softers or added enzeymes. I use the Planet Ark brand.

Have fun with your new nappies!

    Hey Tan -

    I'll tackle one:-

    * The BG comes with 2 inserts = one says doubler, Im assuming that is the booster for nights? the other says Insert so have answered my own question! The snaps on the insert are obviously for sizing but do I put the folded down bit at the front or the back when I stuff it??

Ok - I never use my BG's for night times- mainly cos they are PUL and don't breathe like wool or fleece do. I put both the little insert and the big insert in for DS. I put the little one on top of the big one - line it up to the second snap down (without actually snapping it down if ya know what i mean) and then stuff the pocket with the snaps to the top.
Thats how I do it, but I don't size down for DS - he has the nappy at the highest setting so i don't need to snap down the inserts.

    HTH!!!

Oh - and yes, I guess GK would be really thin without the inserts.. pmsl..

ETA - I should mention that when I was snapping down the inserts for DS - I put the fold at the front - cos he's a boy and thats where the liquid comes out

the bamboo booster for the bbh is there only if you need it ,like long trips out or nap times..

no softerners please. it wont do the nappies any good !

a doubler is basically a booster .. to"double" the absorbency or the insert

and you can use anything thats absorbent for a pocket insert !!

Ok just one more question! To those that have 2 in cloth, do you use the same nappies on both? I tried the GK on Izzy seems a little small but the BG is great on both of them so do you just use the ones that you can use on both and then have some that are sized for each? Also the magicall (small) seems really a bit small on James but I think it said not to upsize so Imnot sure now how they are meant to sit? He is about 6kgs. Will post pics when my battery recharges and you can tell me what you think!

Tan - I have used BG on both kids - they are fine.
GK are a bit too wide for Miss M - she's a scrawny thing - but they fit DS beautifully.
Where they sit depends on the build of ya kids ya know? My nappies always sit under their belly button - they are really long in the body. I always found Magicalls to be quite a big sizing - the large was a bit too big for DS even now (but he has no hips or butt to keep it full I guess!)
