I cold wash mine and i use bi-carb soda (about 2 tbs). I also firstly put them on a rinse cycle to wash away and excess bits of poo then do the normal wash (just so they arent washing in poo lol). You can use normal washing powder/liquid. Just use half as much as normal No need to napy san.
I use AM-O-LIN and only use 1/2 a lid of the liquid....
i use a heavy duty wash in my machine as it has more rinses...
NO too the nappy san!!!!!
and i wash in cold water UNLESS i am doing a de-stink/strip wash...then it is HOT water and a small squirt of washing up liquid...and plenty of rinses
I wouldn't use bi-carb. Don't use vinegar or bleaches. PUL - the water proof layer will loose its water proofness.
Hemp should be hot washed & dried 3 times before use, bamboo once. They will hold more after 10 washes.
PUL shouldn't get too hot either. Water under 60 deg & dryer on warm if needed
I try to use grey water friendly powder. It has less chemicals on bub's skin.
BTW - after the intial washes, cold water is ok. The odd hot wash/strip wash is good. About once a month I do mine.

bi-carb is absolutly fine to use....no idea who said not to use it..BUT a damn lot of WAHMS i know use it and have been for years!!!! and no probs....
Bamboo should also be generally washed 3 times prior to use for absorbancy issues...would NEVER just prewash anything bamboo once then expect brilliant absorbancy...
won't use powders as MOST tend to now have the brighteners etc..which are a BIG no no for MCN's....
