    Question Amber teething necklaces

    Do they REALLY work??

I am considering buying one next week, i ran the idea by my DP and he just laughed and said they dont work.

I don't like the thought of giving DD panadol all the time and bonjella is only a temporary pain relief.

Yes yes yes!!! My DD is nearly two and has had hers since she was 6 months old. I found it to be a godsend. I was skeptical but desperate and couldn't believe the difference after she'd had hers on for a day. It doesn't stop the pain and waking completely but I definitely noticed an improvement

I got one for my DS when he was approx 6 months and i was amazed at the difference it made. i rarely gave him panadol and never used teething gel again.

I have one for DS and he loves to chew on it, though I really could'nt tell you if it really worked. He got all 8 teeth around the same time so maybe as he had so many come through it didn't really help as much. I LOVE it though!

    They absolutely work!!
My Boyo got his at about 12 weeks...and has worn it ever since (3 in April).

I took it off one day to give it a clean, and misplaced it, he was without it for a week, the change in his behaviour was incredible.

Then I found it, put it back ok and even the girls at the creche he goes to asked what had been wrong the week before (necklace free), and were so glad to have the old Boyo back (necklace on!)

    Yes yes and yes...

DD has been wearing hers since we got it (I think she was around 6 months old) it was definitely before she had started getting teeth and like BabyWrangler - I and others can definitely tell when she has not had it on for a while. It assists with not only teething pain but seems to provide all over comfort.

She is currently getting 3 molars at once (OUCH!) and whilst she is crabby etc I would hate to see her going through this without the necklace.

I also have one and the end broke on mine - where it does up. I can tell you I can feel the difference in my pain thresholds... I want it back NOW LOL

Most definately worth it! DS doesnt drool or get the horrible red rashy cheeks since having it on. It doesnt take all the pain away but its definately more bearable for them.

Well how would your DP know if they work or not if he hasn't tried one out? We had one for DD when she turned 8mths and started teething and yes, I think it helped ALOT. At first we left it on only while she was awake but then someone said leave it on 24/7 and it really did help. I never liked using bonjela either (only once or twice) and mainly stuck to Brauers Teething Relief liquid and when really bad, panadol.

We only just took it off our DD only because she isn't teething anymore (still waiting for 2yr molars though - eeek ) and she broke it

They work for some & not for others. Ours wasn't like a magic bullet - we still noticed when she was teething badly, but it definitely helped, we noticed the difference.

I got one for DD when she was about 3 1/2 months (she was going through a really unsettled patch) and it was an amazing difference, dunno if it was a coincidence or not! they say you can use them for teething or unsettledness. As BabyWrangler mentioned about her DS, I didnt have it on DD for a few days, and you noticed the difference.

I got mine from www.amberbebe.com you can choose different shades and shapes of the amber.

Plus they look really pretty too!!

I've been looking at the science behind it myself, and it seems like they could very well do what they claim to. Some reading:

    http://www.chamberofcommerce.pl/amber-succinic-acid/

    http://www.chemicalland21.com/indust...NIC%20ACID.htm

    http://www.cheerzhangover.com/Succin...-Abstracts.pdf

Apparently the lighter the colour the better, they should have a plastic clasp for easy breaking to avoid strangling, be individually knotted between each bead so that if it breaks all the beads wont come off, and the bigger the surface area the better (which makes sense if it's about absorption of Succinic acid).

I am buying one for DS this week too! He is having a terrible time with his teeth, he has just had his first two come through and I am pretty sure they are a molar on each side! He still doesnt have any at the front. I am hoping they work, as nothing else seems to.

We got one for DS2 when he was only about 3 months or so, well before teething and even though he wakes often when he has a few teeth coming through with a quick BF he would be back of to sleep again, unlike DS1 who would be up crying all the time and need gel and panadol to get even a few hrs sleep. He's also never had a runny nappy, red cheeks, rash or excessive drooling - this could just be him or it could be the necklace.
We also get several comments on how cute he looks wearing it also

Well... A lot of people swear by them, and I *think* it has made a difference, I mean, his first 2 teeth were ok, the second pair - top teeth were utter HELL. Then we got the necklace and the rest we barely noticed. But I'm too scared to take it off and test it.

We never saw the red cheeks, runny poo's, or any other steriotypical teething symptom aside from drool...

Wow what an overwhelming positive response - so great to see as I just got ours last week for DD from amberbebe, DH is soooooo skeptical. Calls it "hippy ****". Bah. Anyway I think it looks adorable and am hoping it will work. I don't think DD is really teething atm but I guess we will know if it works when the first tooth cuts through! I figure for $40 I am happy to give it a go, especially with all the good reports on BB. Yet another reason why I love this forum!

That's what happened to our DD's too. I think I'm going to have to buy another as her whingeing has gotten worse. I was hoping we'd be right but her molars are pushing up. We got ours from sunshine n lollipops x
