    Default Chiropractic help for reflux

My MCHN recommended that I take Max to a chiro who specialises in working with infants to see if there was anything he could do to help with Max's colic and reflux, which have really become an issue. He's in pain for too much of the day, and it's changing his nature - he's a very happy baby, but spends too much time crying in pain.

I took him today for the first time, and found that he had a problem on the joints on both sides of his neck - probably caused by pressure during labour. He manipulated Max's neck and I could immediately see more movement. The reason this is relevant is that there is a nerve that runs from that neckjoint directly to the stomach, which affects spasming and vomiting. Relieving the pressure in the neck hopefully means that we will have less spewing!

The chiro thought it might take about four sessions to retrain Max's neck to stay in the proper position, but I'm very hopeful - Max is having the most peaceful sleep he has had this week at the moment, he's slept for five hours, whereas the last 48 hours he has been wanting to feed every three hours around the clock for comfort and pain relief. I'm looking forward to a better night's sleep myself!

I thought I'd put this information in here in case anyone else thinks they might consider it - apparently it is particularly relevant if your baby projectile vomits, and this can be fixed.

I've heard of this helping babies before.

I'm glad that you've found something to help little Max!

Well it's certainly not a miracle cure, we had a really bad night last night, but it was the colic and not the reflux... I think... sometimes it's sort of hard to figure out exactly what is causing him pain! I'm hoping it will get better over the next few sessions. I'm going to go back regardless, because it has certainly given him more mobility in the neck.

I did the same thing with Asha from the time she was about 6 weeks old until she was 6 months old.

A one off session will only provide limited relief. We saw a marked improvement after about 4 sessions and the effects of each session lasted longer each time. They recommend that all babies be seen by a chiropractor after birth due to the stress that childbirth puts on a baby's body.

Good luck with it ... I am planning on taking Asha back soon so we can check her again.

    Cheers

Thanks for the feedback, Kelly. I'm due to take him back for another session tomorrow (Monday) and am really hoping to see some improvement, he just seems to spend so much of his day crying in pain and there's nothing I can do about it.

Well I took him today, and although he cried during the treatment (no surprises there) he was in a great mood for most of the evening, I got some amazing smiles and 'conversations' out of him. He still threw up a fair bit, so the jury is out on that front, but the chiro said it will probably take a few more sessions to see an improvement in that area.
Here's hoping he has a good day tomorrow!
