Colic or an intolerance to something??

DD is almost 6 weeks old and for the last 3 weeks we have been dealing with a lot of unsettledness of an evening. It could last for hours where there is practicly nothing DH or I can do to ease her.

She is BF on demand and so far barely makes it past 2 hourly feeds. She doesn't really seem to have a good couple of hours sleep and hasn't since birth. (except for last night after an exhausting few hours she slept next to me from 10ish - 4am!!) She does wake sometimes to burp, fill her nappy and then fall back to sleep in my arms. Her weight gain is plentiful there are no issues there. She doesn't seem to be windy and doesn't really bring up much of a feed at all. Although sometimes i can here her swallowing a bit through her screams and she sometimes wakes at night and i can here her bring up a some juices.

She seems to be experiencing this much more often and extremely compared to anything my boys ever did. Third time around you'd like to think we're able to deal with these things without too much distress but we're struggling. She can have the calmest of calm days where she feeds and sleeps without an issue then hit 6pm and it begins. She's like a different child in excruciating pain and screams so much her throat becomes croaky. Plus tonight she actually had tears in her eyes

Does this sound like Colic or an intolerance to somethng i'm eating? I have spoken to the MCHN and she assures me it's 'normal' but i can't continue to just asume it is and do nothing to try and help her. I think i'm going to try and cut out wheat and dairy and see if there is any improvement.

Also from reading a couple of other threads i may try and take her to an osteo or chiro. Which is better? What is the difference?

    Any other suggestions?

I know there are many questions in one post but i barely get a chance to sit here these days and have been trying desperately to get on here to ask.

TIA ladies i just wish there was a quick fix for something that seems to be really upsetting her. It can't be nothing right???

it seems we must be sharing the same DD lol
have you taken her to your gp? maybe she has reflux... usually what you are describing can be a case for it, it also produces acids in the stomach which can actually be what those juices are that are coming up..
have you tried giving her a warm bath at night to ease her and relax her muscles?
i find with dd in which she has become extremely unsettles lately like today she cried for 3 hrs non stop nothing settled her and she was exhausted and all it was, was this harsh little burp and a little vomit not much just a tad and then she was fine..so i gave her a bath and feed and put her to sleep.
i would probably consult your GP and see what he/she says..
even though there maybe nothing wrong its still very distressing to hear them cry so painfully... and your right you cant leave her like that.. the more they cry the more hysterical and unsettled i say... itms??

The fact that the screaming is roughly the same time each day makes it sound like regular arsenic hour(s) stuff (dont' know why it's called an hour since it usually lasts at least 3 or 4). It can also be exacerbated if you have a busy day as they get overstimulated at this age too.
Feeding 2 hourly or more frequently and not sleeping much can also be very normal for some babies (sucks but).
You could try the osteo or chiro (I actually have no idea what an osteo is...), guess it can't hurt.

On the whole I'd give it a few more weeks and see. DS screamed every evening (and half the night) from around 2 weeks to 10-11 weeks, when he suddenly settled down (and slept a bit as well, just for a change).
DD is very settled through most of the day and then about 5:30-6pm she starts screaming. Sometimes the carrier settles her, sometimes she wants to feed, feed, feed, somtimes she just cries. Her arsenic hour(s) is pretty tame compared to how DS was, though.

I know it's awful when they scream like that and nothing seems to help and it must be confusing when she's so different to your boys. I guess after DS it seems pretty normal to me - sorry if I sound unsympathetic.

Well i took little miss to the dr's this morning. Last night after a feed at about midnight she was almost imeadiately uncomfortable and for an hour i had her literaly trying to climb up my belly with her arms flying everywhere. I just couldn't continue to wait for all that to pass in time without getting her checked out. We have been prescribed Zantac and we'll just see how she goes on that. At the same time i am going ease off on the wheat and dairy and see if it makes a difference. I need to try something for my little one.

She's not overyly spewy but i do often hear her tummy juices so i have been wondering about silent reflux. The dr did say that's what i could be.

Thanks so much for your replys and suggestions ladies
