I wouldn't say mine are sticky, but they do feel different to glass beads - softer is a great way to describe it and I can see how you could get sticky from it... If you're really worried, run it under some warm water and dry it thoroughly.

Sam never grabs at his amber necklace - but always grabs at mine! I keep mine on 24/7 (sometimes take it off to shower if I remember), and Sam's is pretty much the same. If he's been really pukey, I'll take it off for his bath and clean it separately to him.
