question for amber teething necklace users

hi guys going to ask a really stupid question and im pretty sure the answer is no but, do u leave the necklace on bubs when they sleep? im assuming not but intersted to know.
What age did u start using it?
And i got mine today, are the beads ment to be kinda sticky-ish?
    TIA

They say not to leave them on while sleeping, but I do. I found out the hard way that Sam's day sleeps can turn to utter crap without it. He's still young and sleeps wrapped and it's usually tucked inside his clothing, so I'm not stressed about it. I may worry a bit more with a more active, older bub.

Don't want to hijack this thread , but can I ask what are amber teething necklaces? What are they supposed to do? I've been hearing about them a lot recently.

    TIA

Amber teething necklaces help by the skins warmth warming the beads and releasing a resin that has pain relief properties in them.

can buy on many sites including tigerlinda who is a MPM

I leave mine on DS all the time, bath and sleep times too (he is 19mths). Otherwise he gets all fussy about it and starts pulling it etc.

No, my beads weren't sticky either.

Ours is on continously. If she pulls on it, it has a good clasp on it that will release if under too much pressure, so I'm not worried about her choking or anything. Plus, it usually sits under her clothes, but even if its not she doesn't tend to play with it or anything.

    And ours aren't sticky.

alrighty so it is ok to leave them on 24/7 and im the only one with sticky beads! lol
they arenty sticky like glue sticky the just dont feel like i thought they would. i think i was expecting something like glass beads, but they kinda feel, softer, i think is the best word for it

I wouldn't say mine are sticky, but they do feel different to glass beads - softer is a great way to describe it and I can see how you could get sticky from it... If you're really worried, run it under some warm water and dry it thoroughly.

Sam never grabs at his amber necklace - but always grabs at mine! I keep mine on 24/7 (sometimes take it off to shower if I remember), and Sam's is pretty much the same. If he's been really pukey, I'll take it off for his bath and clean it separately to him.

They are meant to be worn, not chewed on. They are to help with the pain by releasing anti-inflammatory chemicals on contact with the skin.

lol b_b, that was one of my first thoughts when i started looking into them, i thought thats how they worked, by getting chewed!
I bought mine off ebay, but the beads arent as big as i thought they'd be or as big as i've seen them in pictures from girls from BB so thinking of getting one off tiggerlinda

Hmmm... anti-inflamatory hey? I wonder how they would go with my inflamed thyroid (gland in my neck) it's not painful... it could just do with some soothing. *off to Google them*

That's not to say that they won't munch on them. My DS has his in his mouth almost constantly, and reaches under his clothes to get at it. Because of that, he sleeps during the day with it on, but not at night. My concern is that he'll weaken the cotton enough to break it - although they are knotted at each bead he could still swallow and/or choke on one bead at the break point if it breaks whilst in his mouth - even though this is really unlikely, if it happens, it's probably best that it doesn't happen at night where I may not hear him if he chokes. If your baby doesn't touch it or put it in their mouth, then it's highly unlikely that harm could come to them if they wore it at night, they are designed to either break or for the clasp to come undone if undue pressure is exerted on them.

The compound in amber is succinic acid (Baltic amber has the highest concentration of this, which is why you should choose Baltic amber for pain relief), which was used in regional traditional medicines - by melting and infusing the amber. Although a fair amount of research was done in the early twentieth century on the medicinal properties of amber (it is confirmed that succinic acid is an anti-inflammatory), there has been no research confirming that amber releases succinic amber at body temperature or indeed whether it is absorbed by the skin. However, there is a vast body of anecdotal evidence to support this.
