Sorry, but, i dont actually know what reflux is. What i am assuming it is, is the lovely little sudden power spew after a feed?
Is that right? And if so, how bad/often etc does it need to be, before i should get him checked out.
Has been sick twice today, both times after BF feed. I am letting him have as much as he wants thou, from both sides, so, should i burp him between swapping sides to help out.
Reflux is some of the stomach contents/acid coming back up the oesophagus because often the opening to the tummy can be a bit immature in bubs. Your right, it can be seen when they have a spew after a feed, or often it can be small regurges, where you hear them gulping and swallowing, and when they just spit out small amounts. It doesn't worry some bubs, but others it causes them GREAT distress. Or, if they are vomitting a lot, then poor weight gain may be an issue, or dehydration if the problem is severe.
(These are generally the main problems with reflux- Discomfort/distress, and/or weight gain problems).
Normally people seek medical help for those reasons, but if you are concerned about your bub vomitting then get someone to check him out. (Esp if his nappies start to drop off). Sometimes projectile vomitting can mean another condition, not reflux, so that could definitely be worth discussing that with your doctor.
(I bet by the time I post this someone has already said it all, so ignore this if they have! And hopefully someone else can give you bf advice)
LOL thank you Caro, it is unfortunate that we have to research it, and not have a doctor or health professional know all about it KWIM?
Debbie, with reflux it tends to get worse and worse, so what starts out as a bit of puking and a bit of crying turns into screaming all day, and puking a lot (that is if they are a puker, there is silent reflux where they don't vomit)
So as the girls have said above, I would watch for
Feeding refusual, or nuzzling the teat or nipple ferosiously, and pulling away suddenly
Loss of weight or excess gain.
Crying, that gets worse and worse, turning into high pitched screaming and sometimes they are inconsolable
Not being able to put them down
Sleeping only when held
Hiccups a lot, and discomfort with it
There are lots more, but basically they are the biggies, as they get older, the symptoms change too. Like my son now does this pause when he is talking, and it is the liquid coming up and down, I call this an urp. He also hiccups a lot, but he is old enough to tell me when he feels sick, so that is at least better.
He does have the hiccups, always did, even when he was inside, but, he never seems to be upset by it.
So, maybe he doesnt have reflux, cause when he has puked, he's not upset. Feeds feel. Starts to stuff around when bb gets empty, but, that normal i suppose, and doesnt really have any of the other symptoms mentioned. Will be getting him weight today or tomorrow, so will see how much weight he has put on.
Is it possible he is just abit sick?
I have a cold, but, also, he hadnt done a big #2 since friday, just yesterday, started doing little skids. This morning after his feed, he had done mammouth sloppy runny smelly orange stuff. Thru my blocked nose, i could smell it, and wondered if this would be the one that would make my stomach turn...
But, like i said, he's not really upset, his general attitude and nature is the exact same, so i am all confused.
