Teething....how long does it last for?

Peter is a week or so shy of 4 months and I *think* he is showing signs of teething- diarrhea nappies, super drool machine, chewing/biting on his hands/my hands/ anything (unlike the sucking he's been doing for a while now), off his food a bit and cries after eating for a while like it hurts, bit fussy, redish and warm cheeks.

But I was just doing some teething research and from what I have read, these symtoms can start a month or two before a tooth actually comes through- oh no!!! Really? Is he going to be like this for next few months?!!!

Nina started teething at 12 weeks, first tooth appeared at 7.5 months!! She didn't stop teething until 2 months ago when the last of her teeth appeared.

    Hi AmberJ,
My son started teething around four months and his first couple of teeth sprouted gradually over the following few weeks.

Teething is incredibly variable between all children (as with a lot of things) - it really is difficult to know what your little Peter will do!

But I think on average, a few weeks is about right until the teeth have fully cut through and grown to the point where they are comfortable. Then who knows when the next ones will come!

My son James is cutting his pre molars now (it's taken two months for all four to sprout) and is just about done at 16 months.

Good luck! I hope he isn't in too much pain Poor little tike.

    xx
