Elizabeth Pantley is the author of the "no cry sleep solution" plus her toddler / toilet training / discipline books and she is fabulous!!!! Simple but effective techniques that adjust to where you are up to in your parenting path. No step by step routine but some suggestions that can be mixed and matched to suit you and your child. Small things that can make a HUGE difference in a very short time frame.

Can you tell we have been having some success

And a big wooooo hooooo for Jazz!!!!!
Thanks Michelle - i think i need to get my hands on that book - night time we are fine but day time!!!! is a another story!

Well night time was fairly ... shocking... woke at 10:40 until 11:20pm (back to sleep with a feed).

Woke at 1:50am. Tried rocking etc, gave a feed at 2:30am, WIDE AWAKE, so Shel got up and stayed with her and Jazz put herslef to sleep (lay down on the floor and went to sleep LOL) at 4am, and then up again at 6am.

    (I did get a sleep-in til 7am).

Trying to focus on the positives... she's put herself to sleep TWICE now... she hasn't done that... well ever really... so focusing on the positives, going to continue. She says to keep it up, give it at least 10 days, so we are focusing on that, its only day two, and we are seeing some realy good progress, especially at bedtime, and during the day.

Plus there is a new bump on her gums too, so I suspect we'll have a new toothy soon.

Jodie You really really don't have to send anything

Hollye, she also has a book "no-cry nap solution" plus there are LOADS of free resources on her website (google it ).

And remember what she says, if things are not working with the new methods, just go back a step or two for a few days and try again. I like seeing your positivity still even though you have a rough night.

This morning at 9.30am, she crawled out to the rocking chair and waited until I came to feed her, and was asleep by 10am, for an hour

    No tantrums!!!

Ruf, definitely have to focus on the positives, the things that are changing. we;ve been in a rut with nights, I'm not expecting a quick fix, especially since we are committed to a no-cry night.

That's excellent Leash...shows that she is understanding the routine

Tonight - Night Three: Night routine started at 5.45pm (shower, massage, hair brush, story, music and booby) and was in bed asleep by 6.30pm

Her day sleeps were a bit funny today - only an hour at 10am. She fell asleep two times between 2 and 4 but never stayed asleep long enough to be put to bed. So I hope she doesn't wake up in an hour thinking it was all just a nap!

Well last night was night 10... the night to log her sleep... it went something like this...

Night time routine started at 6.20pm, seemed a little early but she was a bit restless.
(she is absolutely in touch with this routine BTW, and knows that she gets a massage and hair bursh after shower, by Shel, and then comes to me for story and music and booby, and she seems to look forward to it, reading with me and looking towards the CD player for her music!)
Got her to sleep, but woke up as soon as I put her down. Shel rocked her, but as she as she put her down her eyes shot open and she giggled, which is something she does often during the day ('pretends' to be asleep, its kinda cute).

So we got her up, as theres no point spending an hour rocking a giggling girl as she pats your face and makes magpie noises at you.

She eventually lay down on a pillow in the lounge room at 8ish, after a big play with Shel, so I fed her and put her to bed.

Shel's phone went off at 10.30 , and Jazz stirred, but didn't wake (PHEW!).

Next wake-up was at 11.30ish, gave her a feed and a rock, and we were both back in bed by 12.15am.

Second wake-up was 3.30am, when i brought her into bed with us, quick feed and she was asleep.

Woke for the day at 5.30am.

She was woken twice a night for the last 3 nights (although the second night doesn't really count since she was awake for 2 hours in the first wake-up but we found big sore bumps where her eye teeth are coming through so she had a reason).

Her day sleeps aren't up to scratch, but to tell oyu all the truth I am just going to leave them... I'm too scared of doing anything that might wreck our night time wakings!!! Plus with more sleep I am finding I am much more patient with her during the day, can give her more energy, so her lack of day sleeps isn't much of an issue.

So there it is... definitely going to keep this up. All without (un)controlled-crying techniques. The first week was rough, as I made the decision that being almost one means she realy only needs two night feeds, so i would get her up and walk and rock but no feed, and she protested BIG TIME (did I mentioned to 'no-cry' part only refers to no-cry-it-out techniques... and not no cry AT ALL. Oh, there was crying she'd throw herself around in my arms, do the booby roll, oh boy did she hate it. We gave her water, in case she was thirsty, but nup, she wanted booby but we worked through it, sometimes i was that exhausted I'd have to give her a little bit, sometimes i was able to hold out (trust me, shes NOT lacking so I wasn't starving her! A 1yo does NOT need 6 feeds overnight!).

It has seemed to worked, now she only wakes TWICE overnight for a feed. Which i am happy to give.

Yay for this, Leasha! I've not read this out of sheer jealousy, but DS has been putting himself to sleep since Wednesday so I can join in congratulating you. And slept well for quite a few of those nights (but not last night). But for us, we had to wait until DS understood and obeyed "close your eyes and go to sleep." He just wouldn't close his eyes until this month!

I had DS completely night-weaned at 10m because he didn't feed back to sleep and I couldn't be bothered staying up for 10 mins to feed then get him back to sleep. So no need to feel guilty you're limiting Jazz!

Ah Ryn, I know what you mean... until a few days ago I ignored all "sleeping through" threads out of jealousy and frustration, so I completely understand! WOOHOO that he is finally able to understand "close your eyes", I hope you get lots of peaceful nights. SLEEPY VIBES for all our bubbas (although I'm a bit reluctant to share them, i will hehe).

LOL, I did feel guilty... the way she would wail, I could imagine her saying "you're staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarving me! Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum, you're staaaaaaaarving me!!!" hahahahaha

I've done a bedtime routine since Liebs was 4w old so I do HATE it when it works straight away for someone else, even though I'm really pleased that it does work for others. And DS does the odd "I'm getting up at 2am and nothing is going to stop me" nights too. ATM he's been getting up at 5am so I hope that will stop soon. He's still not 100% so I've let him nap in the day: not today, too cranky with being up all last night!

DS can also say "drink water please" when it's 3am, which helps me realise what he's after. Got to love using words!

Yes, Jazz is still getting up at 5am-ish. But easier to deal with when I havent been up every two hours feeding her back to sleep
