He weaned himself at almost 2yrs... But I still have to lay with him. I still lay with DD too, though she's not usually fully asleep when I leave her now. But I don't really mind the snuggles. Some days I wish I could just get up to finish doing the house work before I can sit and relax, but most nights I enjoy the snuggles, and lately (being pg) I sometimes fall asleep with one or the other (when DH is home!) so I take advantage of having an early night, lol!

DS started getting a bit hit & miss around 10 months - most of the time he'd feed to sleep but sometimes he didn't. i also found that sometimes he'd wake up when i took him off. i decided things would be easier if we kept it consistent so i slowly put a stop to the feeding to complete sleep. i slowly took him off earlier & after a few days he wouldn't fall asleep at all before stopping himself. i wouldn't have kept going if he seemed distressed but after the first couple of times (where he was cuddled/rocked still), he didn't really get annoyed. i had read both elizabeth pantley & pinky's books so i loosely used their suggestions but just did what felt right for us.

mind you, it doesn't necessarily make things easier - now DS wants to have a chat & play after his feed, before his sleep
