    Acupuncture And Conceiving

So I`ve been pondering this for a little while but just wondering is it worthwhile.

Who here has gone down this track, was it worth it or just a waste of precious $$$?

I`m also worried about the needles, What does it feel like, Do they hurt?

Have you ever felt strange afterwards and not able to drive yourself home?

If you did conceive while using acupuncture, how many times did you go before you got your BFP, Do you think acupuncture helped you get your BFP?

    Hi Deejoy
I only went to accupuncture twice and the chiro twice...the month before we conceived this precious little miracle bub I have in my tummy!!! I don't know for sure but after 10 years of fertility treatment...it was a much cheaper cycle!!!

The needles don't 'hurt' as such I found they 'stung' a little when she wriggled them around...and I felt really warm...I did throw up all the way home both times and spent the rest of the day in bed but I am super sensitive to any changes in my body...have had the worst ms too.

    Good luck xxx

I just did acupuncture this morning for the first time! The needles I didnt even feel go in, but it did sting a tiny tiny bit when he wriggled them around. Afterwards I felt very warm, especially down there! Good luck, I found it quite relaxing!

It cost me $65 for the treatment, and I get half of that back from my health insurance.

My FS has just suggested accupuncture to help with blood flow to the uterus - he said the medical "evidence" is a bit wishy washy as to to whether it is successful, but all the patients he sees that are using AP are reporting that they're more relaxed "and that can't be a bad thing" as he put it!

ETA - i'll be having AP in conjunction with chiro - first appointment next tuesday night

I would say very very worthwhile!!

I`m also worried about the needles, What does it feel like, Do they hurt?
I'm a big chicken and do not like needles at all but it didn't hurt me! They just feel a bit weird but the AP should ask if any are sharp or uncomfortable and they will fix them for you if they are.

Have you ever felt strange afterwards and not able to drive yourself home?
Nope, nothing bad, just feeling very relaxed and sleepy.

If you did conceive while using acupuncture, how many times did you go before you got your BFP, Do you think acupuncture helped you get your BFP?
I was TTC for 9 months after coming off the pill and my cycle never went back to normal, it was always too long and irregular. I went to AP on the 9th cycle and it helped me to ovulate earlier and I concieved that cycle (so I went 4 times, once a week). Unfortunately I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks so I went back to acupuncture to try and get everything in order again for TTC and I conceived the first cycle back using acupuncture again!!

I would definately say the acupuncture along with the herbal medicine he gave me helped me get my bfp both times. Good luck!!

I'm the world's biggest wuss when it comes to needles and if you asked me a year ago if I would consider acupuncture, my answer would be a screaming no.

Sadly my son was stillborn at 22 weeks in April this year and while no cause was found I decided the only thing I can control is how well I look after my body. I started seeing a naturopath who suggested acupuncture. I've been eight times, weekly. It's not pain but discomfort and definitely bearable. Just don't look at the needles!

I haven't started TTC again so I can't tell you what effect it has on my baby-making parts but mentally it's keeping me sane and my cycle looks like it's trying to regulate itself.

    Good luck to you!

The first cycle I had acupuncture on I feel pregnant. I was doing IVF/ICSI but had not included acupuncture in my first Stim cycle - that resulted in a BFN. I included it in my first FET and lo and behold I got a BFP. Whether it was because of the acupuncture or if it just assisted I would definitely use it again.

All up I had 5 sessions pre and post transfer. Total cost all up was $370 which I was able to claim some back from my insurer.

If anything it aided in me feeling more relaxed and centred. It helped me sleep better and feel less stressed. Hope that helps and good luck!

Thank you girls, you have all been a great help, after reading what you have to say I`m willing to give it a go.

There is a Japanese Acupuncturist advertising in the yellow pages who specialises in women`s health and fertility, I`ll give her a call.

    Thanks again

I told the acupuncturist that I had scant CM, and he said he could do something for me. This evening (I had my first session this morning) I had like a tablespoon of EWCM! Wahoo

Who here has gone down this track, was it worth it or just a waste of precious $$$?
TOTALLY worth it for us!! After 5-6mths ttc (and been off pill a year by that stage) and nothing we saw the acupuncturist who specialises in womens fertility and with a combination of acupuncture & kinesiology she helped me to fall pregnant within just 8 weeks!!!

I`m also worried about the needles, What does it feel like, Do they hurt?
When the needle taps into your skin you feel a slight pin ***** but i always found it helpful to breathe in, then when the acupuncturist said so, i'd breathe out (as she put it in) and that ALWAYS took away the slight pain you would feel otherwise!! Honestly there is not much to it they are so tiny the needles and so so fine.....

Have you ever felt strange afterwards and not able to drive yourself home?
No you just feel really relaxed and sleepy like Sarajane said!!! u should never feel weird or yucky after seeing one.

If you did conceive while using acupuncture, how many times did you go before you got your BFP, Do you think acupuncture helped you get your BFP?
I had been off the pill 6mths before we even started ttc!! we went off pill March07 started ttc Sept07 after our wedding and then in March i saw her and i was UTD in May!!!! I totally believe she really helped speed up the process..... i found out a few things about my body along the way too like why i wasnt conceiving easily etc.....

I honestly feel if you were to start seeing someone NOW, you could quite possibly be UTD within 1-3mths. i don't want to get your hopes up of course however that is what it seems to be for people that go to one.... most fall pregnant within 3mths i'd say.

My Acupuncturist picked up that i had partially blocked tubes and i had fungus fluid in my system from too much yeast i had in my system clogging things up making it hard for sperm to get thru to the egg each month etc.... amongst other things i found it so interesting.
I still see her at 6 wks, 12wks, 24wks, 36wks pregnant so my next appointment will be at 24wks!! She just keeps me healthy and checks on my kidneys, etc so many things are vital to be able to conceive. One BIG thing to remember when ttc, is keep your body WARM..... keep your feet warm and back warm.....

Also, look at the statistics for those doing IVF treatments along with Acupuncture aswell - they conceive faster than those just doing IVF!!! Now that is something aint it.....

I'm going to see my acupuncturist when we are ready to conceive bub #2!!!

    Good luck

I just love AP. I find it the best me time ever. I started having it to help with IVF but primarily I do it these days to help me relax and feel good. My AP gives the best head, neck and feet massages so I feel very enveloped in a warm caring environment.

Have you ever felt strange afterwards and not able to drive yourself home?
Because I find it so deeply relaxing and soothing (and I sometimes wake up wondering where I am for a moment), I don't normally jump straight in my car and whiz off, rather I sit have a cup of tea and savour being so relaxed.

Ok I rang the lady in the yellow pages but her books are closed until at least December She sounded so lovely with a very calming voice, she said she`d love to help me but at the moment it`s impossible as she has so many clients. She did give me a name of a man out my way but said he doesn`t specifically deal in fertility but is a lovely man.

Do you girls think I should go and see this man in the meantime even though he doesn`t specifically deal with fertility until I can get into see this lady? She did say for me to ring back in November and she could give me a better idea as to when she`s seeing new clients.

    She must be good!!!!

    Wow oscar that`s amazing.

And thank you Dusty and renstar for sharing your stories as well.

    Hi All,

Well after reading your threads I have just made my first AP appointment for this Thursday with a place at Fairfield who states they specialise in infertility. I will let you know how it goes.

I have had two miscarriages over the past year and currently seeing Dr L at SIVF.

I am terrified of needles but I will try anything if there is a possibility me dear DH and I can have a healthy baby.

hahah it does make you sleepy. All the clients all walk out of the therapists rooms like they are in a daydream LOL. Very good stuff though.
