Question Am I overdoing the vits?

Just had a thought this evening, as I was taking my folate, Centrum (multivitamin), my flaxseed oil capsules, my Blackmores Conceive Well Gold, and my extra B6 that I may be overdoing the multivitamin side of things IYKWIM. Am I doubling up with the centrum and the Conceive well gold? (I don't want the centrum to go to waste and DH won't take them - doesn't like taking tablets let alone the ones the size of the centrum)

Hi, yes you are doubling up taking both as they are both mulitvitamins, won't be doing you any harm but a bit of a waste of money, I would just stick to the Concieve Well as they are better quality and better absorbed than the Centrum.

A lot of vitamins are water soluble, to you can't "overdose" on them as the excess that your body doesn't need gets expelled via your wee.

BUT some vitamins are NOT water soluble, and could cause issues if you take too much. So I would drop the Centrum........

I'm not sure on overdoing the vitamins, but I have a suggestion for your DH and the centrum. My DH started taking multivitamins as it could possibly help with his low motility. He actually chose the centrum as you can crush it up (he won't swallow any pills). So my advice would be to start your DP on a multivitamin (even if you think he eats well) as it takes 3 months for the vitamins to have affect on his sperm....

Drop one of the multivits as you can overdo some of the ingredients with severe effects (eg. selemium)

You could probably get rid of the extra folate as well as the centrum cos the blackmores has an adequate amount of folate in it

    overdoing vits

    hi,

i am no expert, and also new at this, but here are my thoughts...
as the others already mentioned, i also think that you are doubling up and in some occasions you can overdoes on particular vits which has bad side effects...on another note it is very costly as well, in most cases you pay for the name of the products - i also learned the hard way - i went to the chemist yesterday and looked at all the blackmores which are quite pricy but i thought it's for a good cause off i went to pay and the lady at the checkout let me in on a little secret - she told me that once i have the a bub every $$ counts ( No, that is not the secret ), here it comes> she told me to get the MEGAFOL 0.5 for now, which was $2.99 compare to the $18 i was prepared to spend .but this for my situation as i am only in the early stage of family planning,

definately get rid of the Cetrim.
I was taking the conceive well, but as you said they are pricy. So instead went across to the Elivite- they work a treat. Also i would keep up the folate. even though there is folate in the conception vitamins- you cant take too much as folate is soluable and you will pee out what you dont need. You are defintaely better to take too much folate than not enough- the consequences and not worth the risk!
You also have to be carefuly in normal multis of things like the levels of vitamin A. Pre-conception and pg vitamins have the right amount needed for this stage of our lives.

For DH i would suggest Menevit- the male version of elevit. Suppose to be proven to improve sperm quality.
HTH and good luck with the journey!

Just on the menevit - DH went to the pharmacy specifically looking to purchase it. He was asked if he was taking any other mulitvitamins to which he just answered 'yes'. The pharmacist then suggested Centrum would be good to take because it is the same as menevit but cheaper. He explained it's like the painkillers they are now marketing for pain in specific areas - it's the same medication but marketed differently and at times with an increased price.
