bad oral health can have a very detrimental effect on conception and pregnancies. there was a study done a couple of years ago on miscarriages in the uk, the vast majority of them would not have happened if the mother had good oral health. if a mother has gum disease, rotten teeth etc, the infection goes through the blood stream, straight into the uterus. this is one of the reasons pregnant women are encouraged to visit their dentist. the other being that the gums soften during pregnancy, which can have it's own set of problems.
