anyone know if dental hygiene can impact on conception?
I have been told that even having one dental cavity can cause infertility so does anyone know how true that is?
I have a friend undergoing IVF and her mouth is a dentists dream and he would get his new lamborghini so I was wondering if maybe her broken teeth and gum disease would be having an impact. Her first ET resulted in a chemical pg but this 2nd one didn't work at all. She only has one left to thaw and transfer.
Surely her Dr would have told her if it was an issue?
bad oral health can have a very detrimental effect on conception and pregnancies. there was a study done a couple of years ago on miscarriages in the uk, the vast majority of them would not have happened if the mother had good oral health. if a mother has gum disease, rotten teeth etc, the infection goes through the blood stream, straight into the uterus. this is one of the reasons pregnant women are encouraged to visit their dentist. the other being that the gums soften during pregnancy, which can have it's own set of problems.
My FS told me to floss every single day - so yes, it is important. Apparently some oral bacteria spreads really easily in the system and lowers chances of conception. I recently read an article about men and the impact poor dental hygiene can have on fertility, can't find the link now... but that scares me as DP hasn't been to the dentist for nearly 20 years and refuses to go ! ! However, FS wasn't concerned about DP flossing, only me...
