    Default Clomid at my age!

    Hello,
"DH" (what does that stand for exactly) and I are TTC. I will be 41 in November and he is 50! First month was unsuccessful and I am thinking of trying the 5 clomid pills that my DR. prescribed. Now, DH and I live 8,000 km apart at the moment, but will be here at the end of October when I will ovulate (I'm like a clock- every 28 days, I feel the ovulation cramp etc. Now does everything work the way it should?? I don't know!)

However, since we do are not always together when I ovulate, we're thinking about trying the Clomid.

My DR suggested I take the first pill on day 5 and I want to know YOUR experiences with starting on day 5. I've read that many are prescribed to start on day 2, etc.

If day five will be October 20, and he is arriving on the 22nd and staying until the evening of 30 October..... I'm afraid we won't be together when I will ovulate, thinking the medicine might make me ovulate at a later date than my normal expected ovulation date.

Does Clomid change the ovulation date? I'm due to ovulate on the 30th. I know he's leaving that day, but it's worth a shot. I want to make sure that I ovulate when he's here! Is that possible?

I'm so confused. Thanks for helping and for trying to make sense of this post!

    Hi!

I took 5 cycles of clomid, I took them from day 5-9, each time I wld ovulate on day 17-18.
So it sounds to me like u wld be better off just doing it naturally since u are O'ing on ur own etc. I dont really understand why ur dr prescibed them to u?? If u were to start them earlier, say on day 2 or 3 then u wld O a bit earlier.. but probably only around the time that u wld normally O anyway! They say u O between 5-10 days after taking the last pill.

DH stands for Darling or Dear Husband.. im pretty sure! Its been so long since i read the abbreviation list!

On my 3 unsuccessful cycles on clomid I took it on day 2-6. On my successful cycle I took it day 4-8, and I ovulated around day 18 (IUI on day 17). So it does work

    Thanks for the info.

Also, my doctor suggested clomid because of my age... She said it would produce more eggs, increasing the risk of conceiving.

Hi there, I had to take two cycles of Seraphene (same as Clomid) to conceive DS1. From memory, I had to start taking the meds on Day 1.
Anyhoo, I had to have constant blood tests to monitor and pinpoint when O was going to happen. Then again, my cycles were up the putt and I could never predict when O day was. The blood tests were also to done to get a better picture of how many eggs were likely to "pop". Too many, and you're told to avoid sex in order to avoid multiple pregnancy.

I assumed anyone who took Clomid/Serephane had to have blood tests done also.

Guess the point I'm making is rather than try and predict when O will happen, couldn't/shouldn't you also get bloods done to be accurate? Just throwing this out there - sorry I can't help ease your confusion any further.

    Good luck.

I never had blood tests to check levels, I had daily internal scans to check the eggs from about 5 days after finished the clomid.

I dont have experience with Clomid, though have wondered myself if it would change the ovulation date. But I just want to say even if he is leaving on the 30th, you are still fertile up a few days or so BEFORE ovulation (I think the range is 3 days before roughly. So you would still be in with a good chance

Sadie if you have regular 28 day cycles and ovulation cramping etc its likely that your body is working perfectly fine on its own. I would certainly give mother nature a fair go before complicating the situation with drugs - but thats my opinion, of course! If you are expecting to ovulate on the 30th, and your man leaves on that day, then having intercourse the night before he leaves, or morning that he leaves, (closest to ovulation) is recommended. I would strongly advise however that you both consult with a Naturopath who specialises in NFM (Natural Fertility Management) to enhance your chances of conception, and conception of a healthy baby. They will be able to recommend a pre-conceptual care program specifically tailored for you and your partner's needs - dietary requirements, vitamin & mineral requirements, heavy metal elimination etc. Friend's of ours spent 4 years trying to conceive naturally, then went to a Naturopath and were pregnant 3 months later. Of course everyones story is different but even if you are fertile myrtle - its good to do to increase health of sperm, egg & baby.

    Hope this helps!

PS - DH stands for Dear Husband, and DP Dear Partner
