It is not a 100% safe methos of birth control and people do fall pregnant on it. Best to get a test. Are you late for AF?
DH and I have been using this method since the birth of our DD almost 2 years ago.
I am just curious to know if anyone has become pregnant while using this method. I only ask because I am getting some early pregnancy signs (Weeing non stop!) and wonder if it might be worth driving to the pharmacy to get a test.
We tried for 2 years to concieve our little bundle of fluff, so I assumed I was fairly safe!!??

Best go get a test then....
And share the potentially exciting news...
Well, my GP is a funny ol bugger but he's quite serious and cautious about contraception and he had this to say to me about the withdrawl method (as I was asking about whether pre-cum can make you pregnant, his swimmers don't come out until he actually finishes); "You'd have to be pretty (un)lucky to get pregnant from pre-ejaculate". I also know a couple who've been using this method and haven't fallen pregnant. Still, stranger things have happened so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
I've been using the withdrawal method for 15yrs and our four children have all been planned but in saying this it's not a 100% safe method but it has worked for us. All the best.
Regards,
Dianne
Before DH and I started using NFP (Natural Family Planning) as contraception we used the withdrawal method. Neither of us were keen on the idea of me taking synthetic hormones every day and sometimes condoms can be a pain so.... anyways, it worked for us! I think the problem is alot of men pull out literally the split second before they ejaculate- and this can result in some spermies sneaking through. I think it is much wiser for the male to pull out at least a few seconds before- IYKWIM. Having said that - you still hear of those rare few who do fall pregnant with this method so its certainly not foolproof (of course neither is the pill or condoms).
In my experience, NFP is the easiest and most effective way to avoid (or acheive) a pregnancy. You just have sex when you are infertile (and the male can enjoy the indulgence of ejaculating 'within') and avoid intercourse when you are fertile (of course sexual pleasure can be acheived in other ways during this period).
Its a very empowering method, especially for the woman- as you feel completely in tune with your body's natural rythym and ultimately you control when it can and cannot happen.
The only challenging part IMO is that the woman feels most like intercourse when she is fertile (natures way)- and so resisting the temptation to go 'all the way' in this short period can be tough sometimes. Also- women with irregular cycles have to be more vigilant at monitoring their cycles and symptoms of fertility and infertility- although this gets easier with practise.
The best thing is, it does not affect your fertility in the long run - like the hormonal contraceptives do.
OK- I have just rambled on here..... sorry!
We were taught in sex ed that the world is full of people who were conceived when their parents were using this method. There are sperm in the pre-ejaculate fluid, though of course not as many as in semen.
I also believe that NFP is the best contraceptive method. We just used condoms during my fertile period.
This is untrue. I think that your sex ed class was just trying to scare you! Pre-ejaculate provides the lubrication for the sperm as well as neutralizing the acidity in the vagina for when the actual semen are released.
From wiki;
Article: Pre-ejaculateMany also express concern that pre-ejaculate may contain sperm which can cause pregnancy, using this to argue against the use of coitus interruptus (withdrawal) as a contraceptive method. There have been no large-scale studies of sperm in pre-ejaculate, but some smaller-scale studies suggest that no sperm is present and thus pre-ejaculate is ineffectual at causing pregnancy.[4][5] It is likely, however, that pre-ejaculate which follows a recent ejaculation will contain sperm, as some ejaculate is always left in the duct after orgasm.[6]
Worked worked for us for 5 years....then Charlotte appeared! lol
I would get a test
Good luck!
We were using the withdrawl method when Emily was conceived.
DH was leaving it till the very last second though, so he may not have withdrawn early enough.
My mum used this method. She had 10 kids, it either didn't work or they didn't do it right. She always told me to use this method of contraception, but I wasn't game enough after seeing my mum plus I also was taught in school it didn't work.
Well I did a test .. and its neg! But I'm not due for AF for another 3 days .. so I guess its sit and wait!!
This method is the best for us I think .. because it dosen't involve anything "unnatural" and if we happen to get pregnant .. great! We will TTC soon .. but I want to lose weight first .. so thanks so much to everyone for replying!
My SIL got pregnant when using the withdrawal method. So, it's not 100%, but no contraception is. And since you don't mind if you get pregnant, it doesn't really matter anyway! Personally though, if I was seeking to completely avoid pregnancy - that is, I absolutely did not want to get pregnant - I wouldn't use it.
I concieved using the withdrawal method, so I def wouldn't rely on it if you def didn't want another bub.
Hormonal contraceptives do not affect your fertility ??????????
Withdrawal method to me seems to ruin a lot of the pleasure and involves stopping when you partner is about the reach his climax what about yours a bit one sided not to mention messy.
Withdrawal is from the dark ages so many other options these days, If you don't want to get pregnant an IUD for me was great simply set and forget.
