How to increase chances of conceiving girl

    Hi!

I have been blessed with two beautiful boys but would love to have a girl for number 3. I am thinking about falling pregnant sometime next year and was wondering whether anyone has used different methods to conceive a particular sex (preferably girl).

I would appreciate hearing your stories and any advice or opinions you may have.

I understand that you can't choose your childs sex but anything I can do to increase my chances would be worth a shot.

The two most common methods involve timing of intercourse and diet. The timing method seems to the the one that is most popular. The idea behind it is based on oen gender sperm being smaller and faster, but with less stamina (die easier and earlier), and the other being larger, slower, but with more stamina (more hardy and live longer). In theory it's all good, but in practice there are so many other factors that come into play that studies have shown the timing method is largely ineffective.

There are a few different diet methods, but recently one has been studied further and is having fairly good results. The diet is based on ionic equilibrium and here is a little piece of an article published in the "Journal of General Medicine":

According to the research by Jacques and Stolwoski, the diet of the woman has total and drastic effect on the sex of the child to be conceived. This was based on the study that the pellucid membrane which surrounds the ova has certain receptor sites on which the spermatozoa bind and may fertilize the ova. The ratio of potassium/calcium, magnesium has an effect on the molecular biology of the receptor sites. This effect is termed as Allosteric Modification which causes specific changes in the membrane compound. These changes in the receptor sites affect the selective attraction towards X sperms or Y sperms, due to variation in the intensity of potentialities on the sperms of both kinds.
To simplify the matter, if a woman is given a diet with specific characteristics for a period prior to conception, her receptor sites on the ova shall attract only X sperms and repel the Y sperms, resulting in a conception of female child.
To reverse the matter, if a woman is given a diet with different characteristics prior to conception, she will attract only the Y sperms and repel the X sperms, resulting into conceiving a male child.

Of the 7810 cases in women that they studied for their research, apparently they had a 96% success rate. I've also read another article about it where they studied the ionic equilibrium diet in rats and it also had a significant affect on the gender ratio of the rat offspring.

The basic idea is to increase you intake of magnesium and calcium (for a girl) or sodium and potassium (for a boy) 6-8 weeks before conception in order to increase the chance of creating an egg with a coating that is more likely to attract the sperm of the gender you want.

We tried this method when we were conceiving our first child. As my DH has two sons from a previous marriage that live with us, we decided to try to sway for a girl. I took calcium/magnesium supplements while we were trying to conceive. It didn't work for us though as we ended up having our gorgeous son, lol. I'd still trust this method over the timing method though. But it wouldn't hurt to combine them together and use both methods...

Thanks Mylitta! It can't hurt to try everything I guess!

Has anyone heard about the Chinese calendar sex prediction and if so, did it work?

There is a gender swaying thread you might like to join to get some tips and chat with others who have gender swayed or are trying to here: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums/f76/ttc-gender-swaying-2011-a-162578/

No to the chart for me.

Get your hands on "the Sexual Odds" if you can. It's an old book (23 odd years...), but so worth the read

ETA. Just googled to try find the author... Funnily enough the book has a FB page. And the author is Dr Ron Wells.

Hi Nes..I have heard and looked at the chinese calender sex prediction once I was pregnant the first two times. I sort of used it to conceive our third. The Calender was right on all three occassions for me.
Two boys and then a girl. With the boys, we were not regularly DTD, so it could be a week two without, then DTD.
I didn't alter my diet, we did DTD every second day and when I checked the calender it predicted girl. The U/S was only 90% sure of girl, she is in fact a girl.
Dr Shettles method is supposed to be good as well. Worth a google.
    Good luck.

    Hi Nes,

OUt of my close mother's group, it has been correct 100% of the time with 6 kids being predicted correctly =)

My friend swears by it as her mother is chinese and she had a printed olden copy (which turned out to be exactly the same one on the internet!)

She TTC according to that so will find out in another month if it becomes 7 out of 7 kids.

However, you will need to know your chinese age (lunar age) which is different to your current age.

    All the best!!!

    Hello

We had a boy first time around. It was a one off attempt and I thought we'd almost missed the boat that month as it was day 15, right on ovulation. I always thought that timing influenced boy or girl.

We had always decided to have two kids so I wanted to try to sway for a girl. I read doctor shettles book and Hazel Chesterman choose sex of your baby. It's worth reading.

The best time for a girl to ttc is as close to the period as possible as the boy sperm die off. I did it on day 10 with ovulation i think on day 15. DH had to dilute his sperm (I can get you to imagine how as he was on a business trip before). Frequent DTD helps before your cut off day. You can push out from as early a day as possible by going to the next day from period after giving it a go for two months if you have the time and patience.

Anyway we fell pregnant first go and we got a girl. A few others that I've told have done the same or opposite depending on what they were trying for.

    Good luck on your journey

    Hi,
I have 2 little boys too and would LOVE to try increasing our odds of having a girl this year. I've been researching all these methods for nearly 3 years now and there is just SO much info out there! A lot of what I've read talks about how important diet is when swaying for a particular gender. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this is true, as when I thought back to our diets around the time both of our sons were conceived, we were eating a lot of foods that are "boy friendly". In fact a lot of factors that are supposed to "sway" the odds towards conceiving a boy were relevant to both conceptions so I do think there is a lot to this gender swaying. Whether or not we actually succeed and finish our family off with a little girl remains to be seen, but I'm hopeful and confident that we know all the things to do (and not to do!), we just need to get it right. Obviously a little boy would also be very much loved and welcomed into our family, but I would be so grateful to have a girl too

Good luck, I hope you get your little girl!!

    Hello all,

We too are looking at all the information out there about how to concieve a girl after 3 little men. I havent read anything about the chinese calender does anyone know of a good website to have a look at it. My sister had 2 boys and used the 0+12 method and got her little girl almost 3 years ago now. I am so excited at trying for another baby but the information is scary. Thanks

I think the technical term is the "ionic equilibrium" technique, but the idea behind the technique is the basis of many of the diet methods. Basically, your intake of calcium/magnesium and potassium/sodium can have a molecular effect on the receptors on the outer coating of your egg (the pellucid membrane) so that they are more or less attractive to either male or female sperm.

Here is the link to a recent article that talk about it a little and shows that it is quite successful in rats. Although I find this article written a bit strange (I think it was translated from another language), it basically found that rats on a calcium/magnesium diet had approximately 80% female offspring and 20% male offspring. So they were 4 times more likely to have a girl.
