    Opk..... Help!!

Ok so I have been testing with opk's for the past three days. Yesterday only had the faintest line. Barely even visible. Today had a def line, but only half as dark as the control, so according to the instructions it is negative. I'm in the uk ATM, just so you keep that in mind. I took the opk about 6hrs ago. It was about 4pm. So what I am wondering is, should I consider that the fsh has started to flow? Could I miss the surge? What is the best way to do this?

I'm no help sorry, but also interested in replies. The month I used them I only ever got a second line lighter then the control, which is as you say supposedly a negative.

In a hurry so just quickly, test twice a day (morning at 10-ish and then again at 3-ish). For a test to be positive it has to be as dark, preferably darker than the control. Once you get a positive, DTD for three days in a row. No use doing it more than once a day because sperm needs time to replenish.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

N2l, would you do that even if you want to time for a boy?

I'd keep testing as the line should get darker. This time around I used a digital opk when I thought the line was dark enough on the normal test, which confirmed the surge and impending O.

I was timing for a girl (this time) and I stopped DTD when I got a pos OPK. Both my boys were conceived on the day of O or just before.

Sorry, I have no idea! I'd be happy to give birth to a litter of puppies at this stage

We always have a degree of lutenising hormone present but it spikes as you would know, roughly 12-36 hours before ovulation. When the line is as dark as or darker than the control line- that is when the spike / surge has begun. What you are describing therefore isn't signifying the surge. As it is darker than previously it COULD be a sign the surge is approaching (but not here) but it could also mean nothing. Some people do have a fade in fade out pattern of darkening then lightening lines pre and post the positive opk but others don't- the line may be darker one day lighter the next etc. keep testing!

Also if you feel you are getting closer then test two, even three times a day to make sure you catch the positive opk. My surges tend to be short so if I begin surging say 11am but don't test until 5 the surge may be on it's way back down and I get a neg. opk.

My other issue is it says to reduce fluid intake for two hrs before. I find that really restrictive! Lol. Will it make any difference if my urine is not concentrated? I know I can't use my first urine in the am. But then I have a couple of cups of tea. Then I am outta the house with the kids.... Anyone know if it is still reasonably accurate or not. It is still getting darker.....

If you can hold on for a couple of hours that usually helps. You can tell if the wee isn't concentrated enough if it looks watery - not enough colour.

If its still getting darker then I would assume the concentration isn't an issue. Also I have two boys and we dtd every day from CD12-16 and I Od on CD14 this time we timed for a girl using OPKs worked out I Od on CD15 usually so stopped dtd on CD13 then realised I didn't O until CD19!!! I'm surprised i even managed to catch that egg so now can't wait to find out if it worked to get a little lady best of luck to you

Oh rafferty!! How exciting that sounds! If would be easier to time like that for a girl I think. As we are pretty fertile. About to test again. I must be one of those fade in fade out girls. Still getting darker ATM...

Well pretty sure I surged today. It was a hair off being as dark as the control. Not darker. I will test again tomorrow morning. I tested three times today. All about equal to each other. So I am gonna assume tomorrow is O day. Will dtd as many times tomorrow as we can, whilst saying at my I laws house with two small children. Did I mention it is a tiny uk semi detached house?? Lol!

Only 2 hours?! Mine says 4 hours!! I basically end up chugging a litre of water right before bed to avoid getting dehydrated around O time!

Once the line starts getting darker, I test 2 or 3 times per day. When it's close to positive, I'll test every 4 hours to avoid missing the peak (lol, and still miss it anyway sometimes because I seem to usually get the peak in the middle of the night). Unlike N2L, I test at 2pm, 6pm and 10pm (4 hour hold of urine with minimal fluid intake each time)... I've even tested after midnight when I am up that late (and had a 4 hour hold)...

No idea about timing for a specific gender. Like N2L, I'll take any healthy child I can get because it's better than yet another BFN...

You will typically O 24 hours after the positive OPK and the day of the positive OPK is considered the best timing for a BFP (but not a specific gender).

    Good luck!
