Question Really confused... Any help REALLY appreciated! :-)

    Hiya everyone,

I'm new here, new to TCC also! So i'm not that "in the know" with this. It's all new to me!!!

Fiance & I have decided we would love to start TTC. I stopped taking the pill on the 23RD of June. We had intercourse that same night.

I had just finished my period a week prior. It's now the 27TH of June, and i'm bleeding with TERRIBLE cramps. Is this normal? Am I on my period again? Really confused

We're not really sure where to start. Should we make an appointment with our local GP, get any tests done etc?

We're both really hoping for a girl (of course we would be over the moon with a girl or boy) but we're wondering if there's any old tales that "help" having a girl? Taking special vitamins? Diet? Time of intercourse? etc

ANY answers would be amazing, and greatly appreciated.

Just give your body a chance to do its thing, and get its rhythm back after being on the pill.

    Hi and welcome to BB!

When did your last period start? It sounds to me that you only had a 2-3 week cycle??? From what I understand it can take some people's bodies a while to adjust after coming off the pill so I would suggest that it would be likely that your body is just adjusting. You might have a few weird-length cycles whilst it gets used to things.

Were you on your hormone pills when you stopped, or your sugar ones? You might have sorta tricked your body into thinking it's time for another period, given it might be used to having three weeks of hormone pills and one week of sugar pills to bleed...

Also, what everyone else said. You might find it takes a couple of months for your body to get back into a regular pattern

That sounds about right for the timing. I'd get a bleed about 3 days after I started the red (sugar) pills. When you stop the active pills, you get a withdrawal bleed. It doesn't really seem to matter if you've been taking the active pills for 3 weeks or 3 days.

The cramping may be due to stopping the pills "mid-cycle" (ie, not waiting until you were due to take the sugar pills to bring on the regular bleed)? I don't know since I never did that.

I think you're probably fine, but if it's worrying you, it's worth speaking to your Dr about it. They will know if there's anything they need to check out.

    Hi and welcome!

I had a similar thing happen first month off Contraception...I had my merina removed, had a withdrawal bleed and then 1 days break, then another 4 days of bleeding a few more days break and then what I assume was my Period again! It can be frustrating, but its just your bodies way of getting the hormones back to normal. I think you are totally fine, but if in doubt or if the bleeding seems to increase a lot then go to your Doctor. I probably would have finished the pill cycle and then just not started another - but that is just me

Now, I have no medical background so please don't take my advice as you would a professional but I have been told, Sex Before Ovulation for a girl (Not on day of Ovulation) and sex ON day of Ovulation and 1 day after is best for a Boy...Boy Sperm are faster but Girl Sperm last longer....so I have read.

Best of luck with TTC! Come on in to our group TTC 1-6 months if you would like?

    Hi Ladies,

Thanks so much for all your replies. I feel better now! My body is doing strange things!! I mainly went on the pill to stop my terrible pains I use to get, so now i'm off it, i'm once again experiencing the pain again - so horrid!!

Now that I think about it, I should have stopped once my pill cycle was finished, but we were both so excited I didn't even think about that!! Bugger.

    Is there a thread Blondie?

Your body is probably adjusting to being off the pill.

In the meantime, see your GP and tell him/her you're TTC. They'll run some basic tests checking things like your immunity to rubella etc - you may need boosters (vaccinations) if immunity is worn off.

Also re swaying for a girl. Boy swimmers are faster and don't live long, girl swimmers love an acidic environment down there (not sure how to achieve this but there are threads) and live much longer. So, the theory is, if you DTD on ovulation day, there is a higher chance of a boy swimmer getting there first as they swim faster. For a girl, you're supposed to time it so you DTD upto 5 days before ovulation but not on the day, as you'd want those boy ones to swim up there quickly, but there's no egg there so they die, then the slow, long living girlies make it to the egg by the time it's released. Does that make sense? Once you've ovulated though the egg will only live for around 12 hours.

Thanks heaps!! We will def book an appt ASAP with our local GP . You really explained the whole 'swaying for a girl' spill. It does make sense, and seems like it could actually work.. Seems logical lol.

What I still don't know; is how to find out when i'm ovulating. I have read about mucus, how it starts looking more like egg whites etc, and this is probably going to be TMI... lol but I tend to have (not so much mucus) but discharge often. Sorry ladies lol.

What else can you do to detect ovulation?

    Sorry for all the questions!

    Questions are always welcome

Discharge and Mucus are the same thing....I think! A lot of people on here refer to it as Cervical Mucus or CM

There is some good informaiton about it on the site in the articles section. It goes into depth and explains Fertile Mucus and non fertile mucus looks like.

Not all people get EWCM (Egg white cervical mucus) but if you do its a pretty good indication Ovulation is coming. It's really stretchy and you will know why they call it that when you notice it You can also use Ovulation Prediction Kits (OPK's) and they can tell you when you are about to Ovulate. Another way is to take your Temperature every day. There are quite a number of ways

Hahaha what until you're up the duff... you'll get cervical mucus then LOL. But not everyone gets CM when ovulating, don't worry. There are other symptoms. Once you know you're body and have charted a month or 2, it will all make so much sense. And you wouldn't have been noticing CM while you've been on the pill, because the pill stops you ovulating!

Personally, when I ovulate this is what I've noticed:
Tender, swollen breasts a couple days before I O
    Diarrhea
    Lots of CM
Horny (really, really horny haha - guess this is the body's way of telling you to make a baby. I think heaps of people get this - pay attention to when you are really horny during the month and this is probably a really good indicator. It's to do with the hormone that makes you ovulate)
Localised stabbing pain - sharp pain on one side the day I ovulate (obviously with an ovary on either side and normally only one releasing an egg each cycle, that ovary hurts).

I recommend signing up for Fertility Friend (if you Google it, it should be the first link that pops up). All the girls here told me to use it, and once I started charting I got BFP in the second cycle FF sends lessons explaining everything, one every day.

If you are going to chart, you will need a thermometer, preferrably one with double decimal points (ie will display 36.97 and not round it up to 37 degress). If you want to POAS all the time and use ovulator predictor kits to test when you are ovulating, don't buy them from the chemist they're a freaking rip. Go to Oracle Fertility and order some bulk packs.

    Good luck

Oh and start taking pregnancy vitatmins, they're good for TTC too just to keep your levels up so when you do get UTD everythings already there. I took Elevit as advised by my GP, some people say it's crappy and there's better brands but I couldn't find any

I wanted to add something to the wonderful advice above. You say you used to get terrible pain and that was your reason for going on the pill. It was also my reason.

When you see your GP, mention it to them and ask if it could be indicative of endometriosis. We were TTC over 3 years before I finally saw a Dr skilled in treating endo and we were pg with DD 3 months after we started seeing him. Some women manage to get a BFP quite easily in spite of having endo, but for others it simply prevents it. I was one of the latter group.

The catch is that endo can only be diagosed surgically, so you would probably want to wait until you have been TTC for a year (the normal point where you start seeking medical assistance) or until your pain was severe enough to warrant a surgery to investigate it (ie for quality of life instead of TTC).
